Team Rain, Rain, Go Away!

So, after you all helped me modify my team, I began some testing and here's the product. Posting again to get some last critiques before I start playing this on wifi (I've been playing on Shoddy).

In Depth:

azelf.png

Azelf @ Damp Rock
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/6 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Explosion
- Rain Dance
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt

EVs: The EVS are the standard EV spread, they give me as much speed as possible so I can outspeed as much as possible and the HP gives me as much bulk as possible to take a couple hits at least since I'm not sashed or anything. The 6 in attack is for the added boost on explosion when I finish my opponent's annoying lead (which is always nice).

Moves: Rain Dance is obviously to get rain started, Taunt to prevent another taunter from taunting me or setting up on me while I set up. Stealth Rocks to get up entry hazards, which have proved to be quite needed in my testing. Explosion, as previously stated, to end with a bang (pun intended =P).

Team Role: Azelf is basically the setter-upper on the team. He doesn't really have much of a role other than that. In most battles, I've been able to set up just fine, but there's always the case where I am outsped or something like that. Overall, I'm pleased with Azelf.

kingdra.png

Queeny (Kingdra) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 6 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Signal Beam
- Surf

EVs: Standard set for a sweeper. 252 EVs in Special Attack and Speed to get the power and priority over my opponent, 6 HP as a filler mainly and also for bulk. I'm not sure what the life orb number is though, since I don't know how to check that on Shoddy.

Moves: 4 Moves for maximum coverage. Dragon Pulse and Surf are obviously for stab, and Surf for the rain boost. HP Electric is for pesky water types that might come in and set up (CM Cune to name one) and Signal Beam just for additional coverage to try and sweep as much as I can.

Team Role: Queeny is my main special wall on the team. In the rain, it's pretty much faster than anything that might try to counter it, though I haven't ran calcs or anything on it to know for sure. It's got a wide range of move types so it can help counter for other pokemon on the team too if needed.

kabutops.png

Reaper (Kabutops) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 32 HP/252 Atk/224 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Aqua Jet
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
- Waterfall

EVs: Once again, the standard sweeper spread, except this time it's physical. I've added in a little extra bulk to help it take hits better.

Moves: Set up a Swords Dance (or 2 if I can) and sweep is the main goal of this set. Stone Edge is mainly here for coverage, while Aqua Jet is for priority and for the rain boost, and Waterfall is totally wicked in the rain and STAB'd.

Team Role: Reaper is my main Physical Sweeper. It can really leave a dent in just about any team, at least KOing one pokemon of my opponents each battle.

raikou.png

Pokeguy (Raikou) @ Damp Rock
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd/252 SAtk/6 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Hidden Power [Bug]
- Rain Dance
- Thunder

EVs: This is in fact the standard special sweeper set. 252 SpAtk/Spe to get power and priority over my opponent, and then 6 SpDef to help out the CM boosts once I start setting those up.

Moves: Pokeguy can come in in the rain and set up CMs or come in out of the rain and make it rain. Either way, once Pokeguy gets a CM or two on him, he can really wreck through teams. Thunder in the rain will never miss is awesome STAB'd and very powerful. HP Bug for coverage mostly.

Team Role: Pokeguy will help Queeny out on the special side of the spectrum, and also help keep the rain up, which Queeny can't do. This pokemon pretty much inspired me to make this team over a year ago.

Ludicolo.jpg

Oh Happy Day (Ludicolo) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 60 Atk/196 Spd/252 SAtk
Mild nature (+SAtk, -Def)
- Focus Punch
- Grass Knot
- Ice Beam
- Surf

EVs: The EVs here are meant to provide power to both physical and special moves and keep the speed up. Pretty much meant as a Mix Attacker.

Moves: These 4 moves are some of the greated in the game in my opinion. They have awesome coverage, and I really can't think of something that would resist all 4 types.

Team Role: Oh Happy Day can be used as a Mixed Sweeper, but I find myself using him more as a Revenge Killer instead with his wide range of coverage in his moveset.

scizor.png

Pinch Me (Scizor) (M) @ Damp Rock
Ability: Technician
EVs: 200 HP/56 Atk/252 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Rain Dance
- Roost
- U-turn

EVs: Not the standard EV spread you would expect on a Scizor, pretty much what it does is helps Scizor stay in and take some hits so I can set up Rain Dance a time or two and still have HP to attack back and make some kills.

Moves: Rain Dance is to keep the rain up as long as I can, and then Roost will help me heal so I can save Pinch Me for later when I need more rain. Bullet Punch should be obvious, it's for STAB, Technician, Etc. U-Turn for Scouting pretty much.

Team Role: Scizor is another RD-er and keeps the rain up, while he can also be a revenge killer if Oh Happy Day can't handle the pokemon that needs to be killed.

Hello

You should one more Rain Dancer on your team, one with Damp Rock isn't enough and Azelf is a suicide lead so it could come back later in the game to let the rain fall again. I suggest making Scizor your other Rain Dancer for now:

Scizor @ damp rock/ adamant/ technician
248 HP, 42 Atk, 220 SDef

- Rain Dance
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Roost

--> Like I said before you NEED another Rain Dancer. Although Scizor looses a lot of his power now, his only weakness will be covered by rain. U-turn away to set up rain later again when it is dry. Roost so you can recover of your damage and Bullet Punch is for finishing of weakened opponents.

I also thin that Aqua Jet is better over Brick Break on Kabutops, when you got 3 Sword Dances and the rain stops your scrawed, or... you can use Aqua Jet to rampage through your opponents team.

Hope this helped!

I agree with you on Scizor, and I've changed it. However, shouldn't I replace Waterfall for Aqua Jet instead of Brick Break so I don't lose my coverage?

No; Waterfall and Aqua Jet could be used on the same set. It's only resisted by the likes of Empoleon. Waterfall provides the much needed OHKO's in rain.

I do suggest however that you make Kingdra totaly special to make it very dangerous:

Kingdra @ life orb/ modest/ swift swim
6 HP, 252 SAtk, 252 Spe

- Dragon Pulse
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power (Electric)
- Signal beam

--> This will deal massive damage to every pokemon not named blissey.
Dragon Pulse gets STAB and kills dragons, Hydro Pump in rain and STAB'ed dents everything not resisted to it. Hidden power Electric let's you take on Gyarados and Signal Beam is for Grass types (most likely Celebi).

Hope this helped and good luck with the team! ^^

Hello, I'll give you a bit of help.

Firstly on the Scizor suggested, 200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 SpD is a better spread for an easier time 2HKOing Tyranitar with Bullet Punch while still having great special bulk.

On all special Modest Kingdra, Surf is by far the superior option, Hydro Pump misses at crucial moments too often and Surf is still incredibly powerful in rain, you don't miss out on that many important OHKOs.

On Kabutops, use 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe, bit of extra bulk, puts you at a LO number and you aren't outsped by any important Pokemon by doing that.

On Ludicolo, I suggest using 60 Atk / 252 SpA / 196 Spe, Focus Punch will be a better weapon against Blissey and Snorlax. You still outspeed +1 neutral base 100s and there are no significantly important Pokemon between that 60 EV speed level, the extra Atk will be more beneficial.

About Raikou, you obviously seem to love it and made the team around it so I don't really want to change it, but I think it would be better as a Rain Dance supporter so you have 3 pokemon with rd (that should be a minimum). I'd make it hold Damp Rock or Life Orb if you want some more power at the cost of 3 turns of rain and use Rain Dance / Thunder / Hidden Power Ice / Calm Mind or Substitute.

Hope this helps and good luck with the team :)

You can use Surf for the better acc. but you just have to be warned for pokemon who could survive a Surf and OK Kingdra in return.

Hydro Pump has a chance to OHKO Foretress and Metagross, both of them could survive a Surf and Explode on poor Kingdra.

Hydro Pump is also a OHKO and Scizor and Swampert where Surf is not!

Bumping this up to ask this, should I run Taunt or U-Turn on Azelf? And should I do Calm Mind or Substitute on Raikou? Both moves on both Pokemon have a purpose, and it's hard to just outrule one for the other. Thoughts please.

I think Taunt is the better option on Azelf, as you have to put up SR and Rain Dance, and Azelf will probably be dead after the second attack.

I`m not sure, but I think Calm Mind is better, Substitute takes away 1 turn (rain), just to ease prediction.

I was actually leaning towards Taunt and Calm Mind already, so you just decided that for me. Thanks Uchiha.

Acually I have to disagree with Uchicha here, I think that U-turn would be much more beneficial than Taunt on the specific Azelf set that you're running. Your set is bulky, so therefore it could very well come back in late-game, (or mid-game, whatever) and set up rain again. I also think that Substitute would be better on Raikou, allowing you to scout things like Tyranitar coming in on you. I mean, think of this situation.

____ switched in Gyarados (M, Intimidate) /some other thing weak to Raikou

Jolteon switched in Raikou (Pressure)

---

____ switched in Tyranitar (M, Sand Stream)

Raikou used Calm Mind.

---

Jolteon switched in....

See what I'm saying here? If you had Substitute you could have done that on the switch and set up Rain again as Tyranitar attacked your Substitute.
