Team Building Process
I wanted to build a team that was centered on a Pokémon that could use Will-O-Wisp and Roar, who also had high defenses. So I looked for a while until I found out that Heatran met all the requirements.
Then I began thinking of Pokémon that supported Heatran well. The first thing that came to mind was Suicune, as he is my favorite Bulky Water. However I needed some way to heal Heatran, and I didn’t have room for Rest and Sleep Talk on his move set, so I decided on Vaporeon.
So now I have Wish support for Heatran. The next thing that came to my mind was; how could I deal with some of the bigger threats to these two Pokémon? Some of the Pokémon that bothered me were Starmie, Gengar, Latias, and some other offensive Pokémon. I figured it would be the perfect time to use my favorite Pokémon, so I added Weavile, not only does he cover those three, but he can also handle any weakness to Salamence, plus he fills the role of revenge killer for me.
At this point I needed a good sweeper; to me a sweeper needs to have any of these qualities. An Attack / Special Attack boosting move and base speed over 100 Ex. Latias. An Attack / Special Attack boosting move, and a priority move Ex. Scizor. Base Attack / Special Attack over 125 and a Speed boosting move Ex. Metagross. Or it could have Dragon Dance, as it boosts Attack and Speed at the same time. The first Pokémon I thought of using was Gyarados, but he would add to my Electric and Rock weakness. Eventually after some thought I decided on Salamence, as he is the most powerful Dragon Dancer in the OU.
So I’ve got my two defensive Pokémon, a revenge killer, and a physical sweeper. Now I need a Special sweeper. There were so many Pokémon to consider, but none of there was a problem with all of them. Gengar couldn’t learn a stat boosting move, Latias would have added too many weaknesses to my team, the Rotom forms could only learn Charge Beam etc…Finally I decided to look into some UU Pokémon. Naturally the first Special sweeper I looked for in UU was Mismagius.
Finally I got to the lead. The lead took absolutely no thought, as by this point I realized that every Pokémon on this team had at least one immunity, and I wanted to keep that trend. So I went with Swampert.
Well as it turned out Swampert wasn’t such an obvious choice. With two Pokémon weak to Stealth Rock, I needed a Rapid Spinner. This Rapid Spinner would also need to have Stealth Rock, and it would be nice if he had a lot of the same resistances and immunities as Swampert. Once again having to search in UU I stumbled across Donphan.

Donphan @ Leftovers***SpongeBob
Sturdy
Impish (+Def, -SpA)
252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
-Stealth Rock
-Rapid Spin
-Earthquake
-Assurance
Summary:
Donphan is the perfect lead for this team. He sets up Stealth Rock, has Rapid Spin, and is immune to the Electric attacks aimed at Vaporeon. Thanks to Donphan’s bulkiness he is always around far after he sets up Stealth Rock, which is extremely important, because he needs to Rapid Spin more than once at times.

EV’s, Nature, and Item:
I chose to put all my EV’s in HP and Defense, because Donphan was not on the team to attack, he’s here to set up entry hazards, spin away my opponent’s entry hazards, and act as a reliable switch in to a lot of physical Attacks, so max Attack was unnecessary. Impish was chosen for the same reason I gave him 252 Def, he needs to stay around as long as possible. Leftovers are rather obvious, as they give Donphan consistent health back every turn.

Move Set:
Stealth Rock is essential on any team, and it comes in handy a lot with this team in particular, because the Pokémon on it can cause a lot of switches. Rapid Spin is what drew me away from Swampert, and convinced me to switch to Donphan. With two Pokémon weak to Stealth Rock, and one of them being your revenge killer, having entry hazards cleared off really comes in handy. On top of that this team has 8 immunities, so when Stealth Rocks are cleared off I can literally make some switches without taking any damage at all. Earthquake hits some popular leads hard, and is a good STAB move, while Assurance is to stop any spin blockers.

Mismagius @ Leftovers***LaToya
Levitate
Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
4 HP / 252 Spe / 252 SpA
-Nasty Plot
-Substitute
-Shadow Ball
-Thunderbolt
Summary:
Mismagius is a great Pokémon, and has the potential to sweep if you let it get as much as one Nasty Plot. He is my Special Sweeper, and has many opportunities to get in with Fighting and ground attacks aimed at Heatran, and Fighting attacks aimed at Weavile. He has his own Speed tier, meaning he can beat all base 100 Speed Pokémon, as well as Infernape, who otherwise can be a huge problem to my team.

EV’s, Nature, and Item:
I used the standard Special sweeper EV spread of 4 HP / 252 Spe / 252 SpA, to maximize sweeping capabilities. Timid makes sure that Mismagius can out run as many Pokémon as possible. Leftovers were chosen over Life Orb because, with a Life Orb, and Substitute, you lose way too much HP, without being hit.

Move Set:
Nasty Plot is the key move of this set; it allows Mismagius the opportunity to sweep, by boosting its Special Attack stat far higher than that of Gengar’s. Substitute is used in conjunction with Nasty Plot to make stat upping easier, as Mismagius isn’t exactly bulky. Substitute also helps ease prediction with my attacks. Shadow Ball is the main attacking move, and is a reliable STAB move. Lastly Thunderbolt is a good move for coverage, and helps a lot when facing Gyarados.

Salamence @ Life Orb***Charles
Intimidate
Naïve (+Spe, -SpD)
232 Atk / 252 Spe / 24 SpA
-Dragon Dance
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Flamethrower
Summary:
Salamence is my physical sweeper. He has an amazing attack stat, a great move pool, and a great ability. What I really like about Salamence is there’s a one kill guarantee when you use him, unless you’re extremely recklessly. I usually bring Salamence in when my opponent plans to attack my Donphan with Grass Knot or Surf, or in other situations similar as that.

EV’s, Nature, and Item:
The 24 SpA is to get a definite OHKO on Skarmory with Flamethrower, the rest was invested in Speed and Attack. I chose a Naïve nature, because I didn’t want to sacrifice my Attack or Special Attack with a Jolly or Timid nature, and the Speed is necessary. The Life Orb helps boost the power of Salamence’s attacks, without getting locked into one move.

Move Set:
Dragon Dance is the move that makes this set, the only thing that really stops this guy after getting a Dragon Dance or two is getting hit with Ice Shard. Outrage provides an absolutely amazing STAB move; Earthquake hits Heatran, and has good coverage over all. Flamethrower is used for levitating / flying Steels such as Bronzong and Skarmory, as well as hitting Scizor and Forretress.

Weavile @ Choice Band***A Pokémon Named Slickback
Pressure
Jolly (+Spd, -SpA)
40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe
-Ice Shard
-Pursuit
-Low Kick
-Ice Punch
Summary:
Weavile is absofruitly my favorite Pokémon. He has Ice Shard to deal with pesky Dragon Dancing Salamence, and Pursuit to trap Pokémon. He also has an efficient way to deal with today’s number two most popular Pokémon, Tyranitar, who even with a Scarf is beaten with Low Kick. To me Weavile is far more than a situational counter for the likes of Starmie, Gengar, Tyranitar, and Latias; he is the best revenge killer in OU. While it is difficult to get Weavile in, he is usually, as most revenge killers are switched in after something is dead.

EV’s, Nature, and Item:
Because Weavile is so freakishly fast, he does not need to put 252 EV’s in speed, as nothing in OU can hit him first other than base 130’s and above. 252 Atk EV’s are needed to net as many OHKO’s as possible, and the 40 EV’s leftover were just put into HP. A Jolly nature is needed to get as much Speed as needed. A Choice Band is the best Item for Weavile, as he is usually just in and out, before having to use more than one attack at a time.

Pursuit is used to trap Pokémon such as Gengar and Starmie, and it too receives a STAB boost. Low Kick has the best coverage of any move on the set, and completely wrecks Tyranitar among many other Pokémon. Lastly Ice Punch was used, because he doesn’t really have any other moves, Ice Punch is used on anything weak to Ice, that hasn’t gotten a Dragon Dance in yet.

Summary:
Vaporeon provides the team with Wish support. Because this team is supposed to have rather slow paced matches, the Wish support is very useful. Vaporeon counters or checks many Pokémon such as Gyarados, and acts as a good wall.

EV’s, Nature, and Item:
I am not exactly sure why it has 68 Speed EV’s, but I am sure it’s important to out speed something. The rest of the EV’s were put in HP and Speed. A Bold nature gives Vaporeon as much Defense as it can have. Leftovers are there to provide HP recovery when using Protect, and just recovery all around.

Move Set:
Wish is extremely important to this set, and is the whole point of using Vaporeon over Suicune. Protect is used to keep Vaporeon safe for the turn it’s waiting for its Wish to come true, and it also helps it scout out attacks. Surf is a reliable STAB move, and it helps beat Infernape who is always a huge problem to my team. Hidden Power Electric OHKO’s Gyarados, and other bulky Waters.

Bold (+Def, -SpA)
252 HP / 108 Def / 148 SpD
-Will-O-Wisp
-Roar

Summary:
The star of the show, this is a Heatran set I came up with, the purpose of it is to spam Will-O-Wisp around, to ease prediction, and just make things easier all around. I usually bring him in when I predict a Grass Knot aimed at Vaporeon or Donphan, Fire and Steel attacks aimed at Weavile, or Ice Attacks aimed at Donphan, and Salamence.

EV’s, Nature, and Items:
First I maximized the HP stat, because it is a defensive Heatran. Then I ran multiple damage calculations and eventually came around to 108 Def / 148 SpD and a Bold nature. With that spread it can withstand attacks such as Infernape’s Close Combat, Lucario’s Close Combat, Gyarado’s Waterfall, Starmie’s Surf, and Latias’ Surf among others. Leftovers were an obvious choice, as they will heal Heatran every turn.

Will-O-Wisp is the crux of this set, and can completely ruin an opponent. Along with Roar entire teams can be ruined. Substitute is used to make using Will-O-Wisp and Roar easier, and Fire Blast is used so Heatran isn’t screwed over by Taunt, and it’s just a great STAB move for it.

Final Thoughts:
-Should I use Substitute, Protect, Torment, or Taunt on Heatran?
-Should I use Hidden Power Grass, Hidden Power Fighting, or Substitute on Mismagius?
-Should I use Gengar over Mismagius, regardless of the lack of Nasty Plot?
