So I've been playing pokemon online for awhile now, about a year I'd say. But up until recently its just been for fun, I would make a team of fairly random pokemon that I liked or just felt like using, I would try to make good teams obviously but I wasn't really too concerned with my rating or anything. But I've decided that at least once in my battling career I want to make an attempt at a good competitive team. So this is my first attempt at that, tell me what you think. Brutal honesty appreciated, like I said this is my first serious team. :)
TEAM SHATTERED ZEITGEIST
Dragonite @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 SpDef
Roost
Substitute
Outrage
Earthquake
Dragonite is generally my lead. I went for a bulky offensive sub-roost set because I feel its good at getting offensive momentum going at the beginning of the match, while being able to take substantial hits as well. At full health due to multiscale Dragonite can even take Blizzards relatively well. Outrage is for powerful stab and EQ to hit steels. I've considered a defensive nature but it doesn't seem be in dire need of more bulk, while the extra power is always appreciated. Is this a good lead for a mostly offensive team?
Empoleon @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
Nature: Modest
EVs: 4 HP/252 SpAtk/252 SpDef
Stealth Rock
Surf
Ice Beam
HP [Fighting]
Empoleon acts as my lead support with its synergistic typing in regards to Dragonite. In addition it is an offensive SR user with special defense investment. I don't remember exactly why I decided to invest in SpDef, but to be honest it seems to have been beneficial. I've noticed that I switch Empoleon in on a lot of special attackers aimed at my other pokes, and after shrugging off their attack I return with one of my own. I'd be willing to change the EVs if its actually not worth it, I'm not too keen on damage calcs and thing of that nature yet. Surf, IB, and HP Fight provides good type coverage.
Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 HP/252 SpAtk/ 252 Speed
Flamethrower
Earth Power
Dark Pulse
HP [Electric]
ScarfTran has fallen in and out of favor throughout my time playing, but it's always been a set that I like. Many people expect the air balloon too, so it catches some players off guard. Heatran acts as the F of my FWG core, as well as a potent revenge killer. Pretty self-explanatory, switch in to a resisted hit and start firing off fast and hard hitting special attacks. I'm not sure if the moveset provides optimal type coverage, hoping you guys can help me on that.
Gyarados @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Speed
Dragon Dance
Waterfall
Stone Edge
Dragontail
Gyarados is the W in my FWG core, and having another Ground immunity I find is useful as well. I think this set is pretty standard. Switch-in to something I know I can force out, get up a DD, and attempt a sweep. If I'm fearing a fast electric type I switch to my ground type. If I'm just being walled I have Dragontail as a phazer. Waterfall and Stone Edge provide nice coverage.
Exeggutor @ Lum Berry
Ability: Harvest
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 HP/252 SpAtk/4 Speed
Toxic
Leaf Storm
Psyshock
HP [Fire]
I changed the G of my FWG several times, I tried Lilligant and Cacturne and a few others but they almost always died before I could use them. I tried changing this spot to a non-grass and the synergy of my team was off so that was unsuccessful as well. I read about the ability Harvest and thought it sounded really cool so I decided to give Exeggutor a try and he's been doing quite well so far. He is my status absorber as well as my Toxic user, in case I need help taking down something really bulky. Leaf Storm and Psyshock are for STAB(went with Psyshock over Psychic for Bliss and Chansey) and HP Fire is for additional coverage. I've been considering a different HP or a different support move, though HP fire is useful for Ferrothorn if my Heatran has been taken out. I may try out Perversity Serperior in this spot just to see how it works out.
Mamoswine @ Choice Band
Ability: Oblivious
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Speed
Ice Shard
Superpower
Earthquake
Stone Edge
Banded Mamoswine acts as the glue of my team. His type seems to have good synergy with the rest of my team. He's a great revenge killer with Ice Shard, especially against all the dragons running rampant. I want to use Thick Fat instead of Oblivious but it's illegal with Ice Shard. He does have a few weakness, but I think STAB banded Ice Shard coming off his attack stat is worth it.
Dragonite @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 SpDef

Substitute
Outrage

That's my team, like I said give me the unbridled truth. I want as much criticism as possible to optimize my teams potential.
