I've always wanted to make a team with Pokemon that have versatile movepools, so one day I chucked together 6 Pokemon and started testing, with very poor results. However, after some major modifications, I ended up with this team. It works very well, but it seems to be lacking some kind of minor change that will make it an amazing team.
The team at a glance:
Infernape (M) @ Focus Sash ** KungFuMonkey
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 64 Atk / 192 Spd / 252 SAtk
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Close Combat
- Fake Out
- Overheat
- Stealth Rock
The definition of versatility is Infernape. Though that isn't why I'm using him as a lead. I just think he is well suited to take on the metagame's top leads. Fake Out eliminates any sash, while Overheat deals with Forry, Azelf, Jirachi, Bronzong, Metagross and others. Even Gliscor is at worst 2HKOed. Close Combat gets Empo, Ttar and others easily. After dealing with the lead, i'm able to leave behind a Stealth Rock as a present for the rest of the game.
Celebi @ Leftovers ** Crono
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 180 Def / 76 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Leech Seed
- Recover
Another very versatile Pokemon. Although this is again a standard set, the opponent will still be wondering what kind of set i am using. Counters Leadpert, great for later on.
Scizor (F) @ Choice Band ** Divider
Trait: Technician
EVs: 220 HP / 252 Atk / 36 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit
- Superpower
- U-turn
Enough said. A versatile team needs this U-Turning powerhouse.
Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers ** Saw It Coming?
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Crunch
- Dragon Dance
- Fire Punch
- Stone Edge
This guy is the definition of unpredictability. Once I send him in mid game, he's guaranteed to cause some havok. Sandstream works great with the stallers (Celebi, Starmie, Zapdos).
Starmie @ Leftovers ** Spirit Star
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 136 HP / 156 Def / 216 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Surf
I desperately needed a spinner, so I chose Starmie. He seems to have great synergy with the team. I chose Ice Beam over Tbolt as Celebi is there to hit Gyarados and check bulky waters.
Zapdos @ Leftovers ** Livewire
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 16 Spd /
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- Sleep Talk
- Thunderbolt
Ok, so I guess Zapdos isn't that unpredictable, but he was desperately needed to counter Scizor, Lucario and others. The fact that Starmie is around to spin Stealth Rock, as well as Infernape's ability to pressure their lead is a major bonus for him, and I find a lot of the time that he's switching into no entry hazard. He takes Breloom's Spore, counters the rare lead Yanmega, and absorbs sleep for the team.
Well, there you have it. I guess the team isn't incredibly versatile, it's more the fact that I am bluffing elaborate movesets. Either way, the strategy has proven to be very effective. Please chuck a rate =)
