Introduction:
Hello Pokemon Community, allow me to introduce myself. I go by the name of S4turn, which i adopted recently. I've been playing pokemon competitively since the early gens in netbattle (the ooold platform), being pretty successful in gen IV on the PO servers, mainly in OU and UU. I lost interest because of weather spam in gen V, but recently the fun I used to have grew back.
I present to you a team I made mostly instinctively, with fairly decent synergy and balanced overall, for the RU tier, please keep in mind that I was absent for a long time, and I'm not yet very comfortable in RU, so the ev spread probably isn't optimal, so here it goes:
TEAM WRECKING BALL - Miley & Co
STRATEGY:
This team wasn't made focused on a single pokemon or a linear strategy, depending on your adversary's team you adapt and destroy. Like pretty much any team, the first objective is to lay down Stealth Rocks. What I tend to do afterwards completely depends on the circumstances, which in most cases ends up in either Drapion or my old buddy Sharpedo cleaning up what's been left frail and injured. I don't believe in teams centered around one pokemon destroying everything, a machine is only as strong as its weakest joint.
The Team:
Rose Mary (Aromatisse) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Def
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy
Rose Mary, named after my grandma (lol) which always takes care of the injured, she has the role of a cleric and a decent special wall, as the EV spread shows. Protect backs up Wish, which with good prediction can bring another team member from the ashes and win you the match, Aromatherapy clears status which can be a problem for the sort of sweepers i chose, Moonblast because it's cute.
Miley (Golbat) (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 Atk
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Toxic
- Defog
- Roost
Miley the golbat, who just can't keep mouth shut and insists on biting off people's happiness. With eviolite she can take very hard hits like it's nothing, whenever someone tries to shoot a steel or poison type attack and take off Aromatisse she just eats it up like a champ and bites them where she shouldn't, forgive her recklessness, she got stuck in her pre evolved form. Brave Bird helps denting the opponent, keep in mind that it's ability lets you hit pokemon behind Substitute, Toxic helps you deal with the likes of Cresselia and bulky setup sweepers. She also clears away hazzards with Defog, Roost keeps her going. And going. And going.
Teresa (Drapion) (F) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Spd / 252 HP
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab
- Agility
Teresa, the last of the ladies, named after my sister because well, even though she's poisonous she does as I command, and usually does a good job. This is a double dancer, some may call it gimmicky, but the option you get between speed and power helps you adapt and destroy, not to mention the mind games an experienced player can do with it. I chose this bulky spread because it wouldn't be outspeeding much besides walls anyway, and I feel from the experience I have with it that it's the best way to go. Knock Off takes a chunk out of anything, Poison Jab destroys the always dangerous fairies, Swords Dance and Agility, pick your poison, and if you're feeling lucky, why not both ?
DST-92 (Sharpedo) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Crunch
- Protect/Destiny Bond
I love this thing. This is the standard sharpedo set, the one I have used and enjoyed for some years, I always find it useful, at the very least it opens a hole to gain momentum through, most of the times it just cleans up like it's nothing, 120 base attack, Adamant nature maxed ev's and a Life Orb is nothing to be taken lightly, especially in this tier, which to me feels like gen IV UU. Waterfall and Crunch are it's STABS, Aqua Jet secures and revenge kills, Protect is there if you need the speed boost, destiny bond can be used to take foes down with you, but me killing them happens more often than not, so I stick with Protect.
King Bob (Rotom-Mow) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power Fire
Bob just pivots around when he feels like it, he's the boss, not you, he doesn't like getting injured and if you treat him gently he will help you alot, just keep in mind that he's not that much on the bright side and patience is required to handle it. As a scarfer, it gets me out of some nasty spots sometimes with that heavy hittingMiss Leaf Storm, Thunderbolt as it's other main STAB packs a decent punch aswell, helps you take care of Water and Flying types that may annoy the other members. Volt Switch is purely momentum based, I've thought of Hidden Power Ice to catch some Gligars by surprise, but I prefer the momentum Volt Switch gives me. Hidden Power Fire is for coverage, keep in mind that it won't OHKO the usual Assault Vest Escavalier but will definetly hit hard.
Onslaught (Rhyperior) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 118 HP / 138 Atk / 252 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Rock Blast
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Megahorn
Picture the bouncer at the club you go to, he's big fat and lazy, drops some warnings, has a presence, may sometimes lay down warning slaps and surely slaps you to the hospital if you cross his line. This perfectly describes Onslaught, the Rhyperior. The natural bulk is good enough to go easy on the ev's, extra SDef helps you eat some Giga Drains' and Grass Knots. Rock Blast and Earthquake are the STABS, self explanatory, they hit hard. Stealth Rocks greatly benefits any team and Megahorn catches unaware grass types who think they can eat an EQ and knock him out afterwards.
Conclusion & Final Thoughts
As I previously mentioned, even though I have years of experience, I am not experienced in this gen at all, my peaks were around 1800-1900 in OU now with teams that weren't mine. Thanks in advance for anyone who took the time to read this, and especially to those who contribute, everything is welcome. Use it, tweak it as you wish, every contribution that I hope I get will be analysed and replied to, future changes will be in red. I also intend to include a complete threat list once the team has matured enough and how to deal with everything in detail.
Until we meet again, S4turn.
