Middle Cup and Knife Fight

Middle Cup is like little cup but Middle stagers (and maybe certain single stagers?)

Knife Fight is just a moveset thingy where you can only use STAB moves, status moves and all
maybe there's a more "brand friendly" name but I'm goin with Knife Fight

NFE, or Not Fully Evolved is a metagame around the premise of only allowing pokemon that can still evolve. Unlike LC, this includes any stage 2 Pokemon that is able to evolve, rather than just Stage 1 Evolutions.

so what about changing the name NFE to Middle Cup? You think people would go with that? I just really like the name Middle Cup.

It sounds like someone really missed out on calling "NFE", "Middle Cup". I mean we got "Little Cup" and then "Not Fully Evolved"?

Nah that's less precise, NFE is fine both as a name and as a concept.

[If my reading comprehension didn't fail me and I'm getting it correctly] [This post is just my opinion] Only the STAB moves in the user's existing movepool? Honestly it's... just not interesting? Like it's just a limitation on movepool; not being able to run coverage/other good moves to hit things sucks and tbf the change isn't drastic enough. Like imagine Landorus not being able to run U-turn; it's just not fun imo. Speaking of moves-based formats, something like STABmons (which is an OM, but you get the idea) is going to be much more appealing to people since it doesn't introduce unnecessary restrictions and makes cool changes to mons' movepools.

How middle cup is it less precise than NFE aka not fully evolved? Its a weird set of initials that if you saw them in a format list you wouldn't know unless you look up what NFE stands for. If someone saw a format list saying, Little Cup, followed by Middle Cup, you think people wouldn't know precisely what that means? The middle formats are not exactly intuitive. Rarely Used, Under Used, and Never Used are all pretty similar. You could argue you could swap Rarely Used and Under Used and they would make just as much sense.

I don't know enough about NFE though to make any actual argument for trying to get the name changed tho I only can give my subjective observations as a new person on here. I just know what "Little Cup" is and I figured there ought to be some kind of "Middle Cup". I mean the name is RIGHT there. Turns out people have totally had this same idea hahaha

Yo ngl i agree Middle Cup is more intuitive than NFE but Middle Cup means it's only middle stages, while NFE means it's any unevolved stages, so in Middle Cup we wouldn't have stuff like Girafarig, Qwilfish-Hisui, Sneasel... who are 1st stages, yet either banned or some of the best pokemons of the tier, i think this is why the tier is called "NFE" despite it not making sense when you don't know the meaning, because it includes any unevolved pokemons, while Middle Cup means specifically unevolved 2 Stages Pokemons.

Altho it would be easier to understand what the tier is about with "Middle Cup" due to Little Cup being pretty popular and straightforward, even tho it's not technically correct, so i understand why you think "Middle Cup" is better than "NFE" as a name for the tier

Hahaha thank you. Ya, I don't know enough about NFE to definitively say that Middle Cup would be a suitable replacement term. I just figured it would be more beginner friendly and it's just a fun name. I really appreciate the response. I just got into Smogon and I felt like I had to figure out why there was Little Cup but no Middle Cup (turns out NFE is just what I imagined Middle Cup would be) It was just that the name "Middle Cup "is riiiight there I mean how could you NOT think for "Middle Cup" after seeing what "Little Cup" is? I'm glad others can see why I thought this haha it makes me feel better
