Terminal Allergies* - Where Stalls Fear To Tread.

*Dust/Pollen to be specific

This is my first RMT. It is basically a stall team, however it focuses around Whimsicott, a surprisingly overlooked nuke which I have beaten entire teams with almost alone. It uses the great synergy between primarily bulky pokemon to shut down opponents moves, slowly wittle away their health and wait until a crack shows in their armor for me to set up Whimsicott, DD Tyranitar or spikes with Ferrothorn

This team rips into other stall teams like nobodies business, however it requires very careful use. While most of the time your options are so varied and certain Pokemon's roles are so defined that there's no worry, if you make too poor a misprediction and end up losing an important pokemon too early (especially Tyranitar) then you may be in trouble.

Meet the Team: (I'll post a 'building the team' thing later if I have the time)

Overview:

248.gif
Tyranitar @ Lum Berry
4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd (Jolly nature +Spd, -SpA)
Sand Stream
-Dragon Dance
-Crunch
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
Generally my lead Pokemon, unless I expect them to run spikes, another weather abuser or something that would use a grass move against him rather than water/ice (which Jellicent takes like a tank.). He serves a dual purpose of setting up the ever-important sandstorm, which gradually wears other teams down and blocks other weather conditions, and also sweeping. With one DD he can take on almost anything, save priority mach punch, with 2 he can take on literally anything. Dont fuck with him.

547.gif
Whimsicott @ Leftovers
252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 Spd (Bold Nature -Atk +Def) (considering investing more points in Sdef)
Prankster
-Stun Spore
-Leech Seed
-Encore
-Substitute
Whimsicott was always one of my favorite pokemon from Gen 5, and after my purely offensive teams kept getting wrecked, I decided to give a stall team featuring him a try. He has not disappointed. Generally I'll wait for my opponent to switch in a pokemon that's almost certainly going to use a status move or a buff, then switch Whimsicott in. From there on its Encore-Leech Seed-Substitute-Stun Spore-Substitute. Often times an opponent will try to switch out of Whimsicott while he still has a substitute up. Big mistake, as thats basically an invitation to get wrecked. The only counters to this guy once he gets going are Weavile and Tornadus.

242.gif
Blissey @ Leftovers
252 HP/252 Def/4 Sdef (Bold Nature)
Natural Cure
-Recover
-Aromatherapy
-Toxic
-Flamethrower
You know how I mentioned sometimes I'll have Whimsicott encore a Pokemon using a status move? Well, sometimes mistakes are made and the poor little thing gets hit by Toxic, which can ruin his day fast. Blissey basically acts as the team safety net, as not only is she able to clear away all their status effects, she can also absorb literally any special attack thrown at her. (Psyshock and Aurasphere make her job difficult but not impossible, and once they've been identified its as simple as switching into T-tar or Jellicent). She can also pressure other walls with Toxic and Flamethrower, the latter of which she wields so well I sometimes wonder if I should but some Ev's in it.

593.gif
Jellicent @ Leftovers
252 HP/ 216 Def/ 40 Sdef (Bold)
Water Absorb
-Recover
-Will'o'wisp
-Surf (considering scald)
-Energy Ball (Considering HP-Electric or Ice beam though)
Do I even need to explain this guy? He got great bulk, perfect synergy with like 3 other Pokemon on this team, can burn physical threats and even deal some considerable damage of his own. I feel like he is a little slow sometimes though, I'm considering putting Ev's in speed but wonder if that will do anything for me.

598.gif
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
252 HP/88 Def/168 Sdef (Relaxed -Spd +Def)
Iron Barbs
-Power Whip
-Gyro Ball
-Stealth Rock
-Spikes
I'm still getting better at using this guy properly, but when I do hes invaluable. Stealth Rock alone makes Whimsicott's job so much easier. He has great defensive synergy with most Pokemon on my team and if I get spikes up with him it almost guarantees me a win. Plus hes packing Gyro Ball and Power Whip, making him one of my best options to kill Starmie/sometimes Dragons and an overall pain in the ass to deal with.

178.gif
Xatu @ Light Clay
252 HP/104 Def/152 Sdef (Impish -Spa +Def)
Magic Bounce
-Reflect
-Light Screen
-Roost
-U-turn
This guy pretty much completes the team by virtue of Magic Bounce alone. He floors Sable-eye and other Taunt/Encore users, and Ferrothorn can't do a goddamn thing to him. Plus he makes my tea full of already impossibly bulky Pokemon even more bulk, and absorbs both spikes and EQ, meaning that while compared to my other Pokemon he's a glass cannon he still has great synergy and can endure more than he's give credit for.

Normally I would pick Espeon since Espeon is far better on offense. But Espeon also lacks reliable recovery, which is crucial since I need my Bounce user to live as long as possible.

I'm considering switching him to a comparable more offensive build.. (With tailwind, Hp-fire etc) All I know is that the more the opposing team switches the better. And they switch a lot when he comes out.

Synergy:
-Jellicent and Tyranitar have amazing synergy, with the only attack type that super effective against both of them is the rarely-employed grass.
-If you suspect a grass move coming, its a perfect opportunity to slip in Ferrothorn and set up some spikes.
-Jellicent blocks fighting moves, while Blissey is basically a ghost-type and special attack sponge, as such they have great chemistry with each other, especially since most electric attacks do special damage.
-Xatu absorbs ground, but more importantly reflects spikes and conditions, and can set up screens in order to give your Pokemon more bulk.
-Blissey just sort of goes well with everything.

Changes?:
I've been considering switching Ferrothorn out for Forretress for his bug typing (better against Scizor and Weavile). However Ferrothorn's offensive

I've also been considering adding a Trick Room Reuniclus, as he would fit right in and this team needs more offense. But as of now I have no idea where to put it. Weavile has also been under consideration for his ability to wreck Starmie/dragon Pokemon, but I feel like Reuniclus would be better, especially with HP-Ice and Shadow Ball. If I could fit him in I feel like he may almost be able to solve all my problems. But by getting rid of another Pokemon I gain new problems. (Alternatively I could replace Xatu with Espeon, but without a way to heal Espeon will only last so long)

Threats: Most threats come from this teams lack of immediate offensive threats.

-Rapid Spin Starmie: Ferrothorn can kill these pretty quick if the opponent doesn't switch out immediately. But a combination of Natural cure, Rapid Spin, Ice beam/Surf and Thunderbolt means its pretty hard for me to actually kill it. Plus it wipes the floor with a pre-set up T-tar and Jellicent.
-Weavile: Haven't encountered one of these guys yet, but priority ice punch outspeeds Whimsicott and is super effective against 4/6ths of my team. Low kick hurts Blissey pretty bad and night slash wrecks Jellicent, so fighting one of these things requires a lot of switching. The only saving grace is their natural frailty, especially if stealth rock is already out.
-Scizor: Bullet punch nails T-tar, Bug bite hurts Whimsicott, this guy isn't as a big as a threat as some but he can be trouble if I let him set up. Blissey can occasionally take him, but its sketchy. Jellicent is really my best/only counter.
-Volcarona: A pain in the ass to deal with if stealth rock isn't up, but if I get it statused its not that bad. Its a good thing these guys almost always quiver-dance in, which gives me a decent shot at Encoring it. At which point its all over.
-Dragons: Just dragons. I originally had Weavile as part of the team to deal with these guys, a task he performed admirably, but he was too frail and T-tar was generally a better sweeper.
-HP-fighting Espeon could be trouble.

i think you mean softboiled on blissey and not recover :P

not big on reuniclus, its only adding to that scizor weakness and doesnt really alleviate any of the problems you outlined. i also think your current ferrothorn is fine over forretress because forry opens you up to rain even more than ferro does, and you lose some of the excellent typing ferrothorn gives to you..what you could do is change the moveset to leech seed to help take on dragons, but this would mean giving up a hazard and relying on xatu to put that hazard up. thats not an impossible feat and its something to consider. the biggest change i would make is switching ttar to a classic babiri version with fire punch over stone edge, and then giving jellicent ice beam in the last slot to deal with dragons along with ferrothorn. babiri fire punch ttar deals with scizor, opposing ferrothorn (these can be annoying because of how it can take advantage of these slow paced teams and spike up), and cm virzion which actually gives you quite a bit of trouble so the less chance it has of surviving the better.

with the change in ttar, i think you could afford to go stoss on blissey for volcarona to handle it much more securely, and it also handles any starmie issues you felt you had (ferro/bliss/ttar solidly take it out). it also deals with espeon who you mentioned more reliably than fthrower if it happens to have cm

hope this helped, i like seeing some whimsi use

Hmm, that's actually a really good suggestion, I'm going to test it out.

I just won a little 8-person tournament with the current team on Pokebattle. Its not a big accomplishment at all but its definitly taught me to appreciate Jellicent. I keep underestimating the guy and switching him out to Ferrothorn or Blissey, even against scizor. But really Scizor (even 3x swords dance, albeit burnt scizor) cant do anything to this guy between will'o'wisp and recover. He can take hits like a champ and has saved my ass so many times its startling.

On the other hand I'm mixed on Xatu. He was pretty useless the whole time. Admittedly I could have used him a lot better and I kept mis-predicting my opponent's moves. And hes pretty much invaluable as a Ferrothorn/skarmory/etc counter, but I can't help but wonder if he'd fit in better with a more versatile movepool, especially considering a lot of this team is basically set up anyways.

Tyranitar is both better and worse than I expected. He's surprisingly poor at taking hits, mostly due to his typing, but when I get 2 DD going hes pretty much unstoppable. Honestly hes so powerful he can kill most things with one.

I'm wondering if I should consider Jirachi on this team, since his para-flinch strategy can really mess people up, and none of my pokemon have any speed, but once again I'm wondering where he'd fit.

Maybe you could try a dual-screen espeon instead of xatu? I know that screeners are mainly used on hyper offense teams, and espeon lacks recovery (outside of wish if you put it on blissey over softboiled/recover), but it would give you a huge benefit to your bulk, allowing you to stall for even longer, while increasing your offensive presence. Anyway, here's the set:
Espeon @ Light Clay
Timid (+Spd, -Atk)
252 Hp/4 SpA/252 Spe
Magic Bounce
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Psychic/Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Ice/Fire/Electric]
Dual screens as the basis for the set, psychic to provide a powerful STAB attack, or psyshock if you're worried about opposing blissey. Hidden power type is up to you. Ice takes out dragons, Fire is for opposing Steels (Notably Scizor who could get a SD up then pursuit you to death), and electric is if you have a problem with opposing Waters

So after some thought I decided to run Espeon over Xatu. It was a fantastic decision, as unlike Xatu, Espeon can actually hold his own. I figured that light screen/reflect, while nice, weren't really doing enough, a lesson I learned pretty well with Xatu. Plus since Espeon, unlike Xatu, lacks reliable recovery, with sandstorm going while holding light clay instead of leftovers he's going to die pretty quickly, something I absolutely have to hold off as long as possible, given how useful he is. Of the games I've lost, most were because of either Xatu/Espeon not fitting an aggressive slot and effectivly acting as dead weight or dying too early to counter mid-game Ferrothorn, etc.

After some consideration I've decided to run Espeon with the following set:

Espeon @ Leftovers
Timid (+Spd, -Atk)
252 Hp/4 SpA/252 Spe
Magic Bounce
- Protect
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic (Not Psyshock because Blissey isn't that much of a problem to this team)
- Hidden Power Fighting

I opted to use protect over Calm Mind because I've often run into situations where I just need to stall a sweeper like a Shell-smash'd cloyster for just one more turn, and prevent losing another 'mon.

His speed is a huge advantage on an otherwise painfully slow team, and he can often clean up in situations where Tyranitar/Jellicent simply aren't fast enough.

I'm also considering Rapid Spin Starmie. Tentacruel and Cloyster are also potential options at this point, although to include some of these would force me to make some possibly significant changes to the team to make up for lost synergy.

Edit: Just learned about Donphan having Ice shard... I'm intrigued. He could manage to fill the hole in my heart left by abandoning Weavile AND serve as a decent replacement for Espeon... I'm going to have to investigate this. (He also learns protect and roar... HMMMMM)
