Bombshell- An overwhelming surprise or disappointment.
Hello all, LiberalLucario here. I've been playing competitive UU since the back end of gen 5, in the BW2 era, where I peaked #6 on the ladder with the username "DatChandelure". I took a couple of months off at the beginning of the XY uu era, and came back about a month and a half ago, and have been constantly playing and making new teams since. This team is the only team that I haven't completely trashed since the beginning of this era and the only team that took me over 1500. It has a somewhat interesting playstyle, but without further ado, let's get into it.
Teambuilding Process
So first I decided that one of the biggest threats I had faced in the metagame so far was Hydreigon (and rightfully so, it's top 10 in usage and can spam draco meteor on an unprepared team), so I decided to use Florges, since it is a great counter to the big dragon and serves as a brilliant cleric with both Wish and Aromatherapy.
The next step, for me, was to add an offensive pokemon which benefits from the usual Florges lures. I chose Mega Houndoom, because it is a great special sweeper which has simple opportunities to setup on the steel types like Jirachi and Mega Aggron that switch in on Florges.
At this point, I decided I needed a revenge killer. I also needed something that could switch into Water and Ground-types. Another thing I needed was something to kill slowbro and the many psychic types that could 2HKO florges with psyshock and outspeed and KO doom with focus blast. The pokemon I decided I needed was the big boss himself, Hydreigon.
Then I decided to add a pokemon to counter opposing Florges, which could stall out Florges, beat Houndoom 1-on-1 and beat Hydreigon easily. I decided to use Jirachi.
At this point I had a pokemon weak to rocks, which could only switch in 4 times. My team could also be worn down easily by spikes, since most of my pokemon have no recovery. I needed a defogger, but I didn't want to use mew, since I wanted to have a more offensive oriented team. I decided to use a favorite from gen 5, Flygon.
I had one more slot left. I took a look at my team and decided I really had no physically defensive presence, so really hard-hitting physical attackers could break through my team. I also needed someone to switch into fire types (despite immunities, most of my pokemon are frail and get hit hard by most of the fire types in the tier.) I decided to go with Swampert.
Later on, I decided that Mew was a more worthy defogger and Flygon was just not getting the job done, while Mew was able to give me a bit more utility.
FlowerPower (Florges) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Aromatherapy
- Moonblast
- Wish
- Protect
Florges is truly an incredible pokemon. It checks every single special attacker in the tier barring the poison types, which is pretty much Roserade, Nidoking and Nidoqueen, which I can easily revenge kill. It provides the wishes and aromatherapies that my team needs, especially if someone gets a lucky scald burn and cripples Jirachi or Swampert for the rest of the match. Added on to this defensive prowess, it keeps Swampert alive to keep it tanking for another day. It has the ability to beat every fighting and dark type in the tier, as well as switch into Flygon and Hydreigon among the other dragons with ease.
Synergy Checker:
Steel: Jirachi, Houndoom, Swampert
Poison: Jirachi, Swampert
Doomsday (Houndoom) @ Houndoominite
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Spd / 248 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
-Hidden Power [Ice] Changed to Flame Charge
Again, Megadoom is a great pokemon. It's clearly one of the best special sweepers in UU at the moment. Despite its frailty, it hits 115 speed on mega evolution, enough to outspeed much of the tier that isn't scarfed. It gets a nasty plot setup on a lot of stuff, most notably things like Darmanitan, Victini and Chandelure because it forces a lot of switches. Moveset is pretty self-explanatory. Nasty Plot to setup, Dark Pulse and Fire Blast for dual-stab,and HP Ice to hit Flygon and Hydreigon for more damage as well as ground types such as Krookodile. Flame Charge is much better for late-game sweeps and the only thing that HP ice hits harder than STAB Dark Pulse/Fire Blast is Flygon.
Synergy Checker:
Fighting: Florges, Mew
Ground: Hydreigon
Rock: Jirachi and Swampert
Water: Hydreigon
Thanatos (Hydreigon) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Hasty Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Draco Meteor
- U-turn
-Superpower Changed to Fire Blast
What can I say about Hydreigon? It's already proven itself in this meta. It's only countered by Florges, and a scarf let's it outspeed a whole lot of things that could normally revenge kill it, like Life Orb Mienshao and Scarfed Darmanitan. Dark Pulse and Draco Meteor for obvious reasons, u-turn for momentum, and Superpower for Blissey (because that thing is annoying as hell, lol.) It's an incredible revenge killer and great for momentum, since it can switch into a whole lot of moves because of its stellar defensive typing and u-turn away.
Synergy Checker:
Fighting: Florges, Mew
Ice: Houndoom
Dragon: Florges, Jirachi
Fairy: Jirachi
Bug: Florges
Steelheart (Jirachi) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 152 Atk / 104 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Iron Head
- Energy Ball
- Shadow Ball
- U-turn
You know, as much as I hate Knock Off, I do love one thing about it: It brought Jirachi to UU. I love this thing so much. And before I start praising it, all credits go to CoolStoryBrobat for this set (because he came up with it and it works incredibly well). Iron Head for STAB + 60% flinch chance, Energy Ball for bulky waters on the switch (go away suicune, slowbro and swampert)! Shadow ball hits ghost types who want to switch in and hit me for big damage and stuff like Bronzong which still resists Iron Head and Energy Ball (aka every steel in the meta lol). U-turn is great for momentum. The surprise this thing brings (hence why the team is named the Bombshell Brothers lol) is great. For instance, my opponent may bring in Swampert to take an iron head, but once my opponent gets OHKO'd by energy ball all of the momentum shifts to me, as they have to play defensively and I suddenly have the lead.
Synergy Checker:
Ghost: Houndoom and Hydreigon
Dark: Houndoom, Hydreigon, Florges
Fire: Houndoom, Hydreigon, Swampert, (yeah like my entire team resists fire types)
Ground: Hydreigon
Desert Lord (Flygon) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- U-turn
- Defog
The Original (Mew) @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Careful Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Knock Off
- Soft-Boiled
- Defog
I used to have offensive defog Flygon in this spot, but after deciding that it really didn't get off too many defogs in matches due to its low longevity in battle and that it really had to keep offensive momentum, I just decided to use Mew as WOW utility and defog. This thing has earned its rightful place as one of, if not the best, pokemon in 6th gen UU. It can get up a defog on almost anything, can switch into a lot of physical attacks with no problem and then get off a Will-O-Wisp or can spam knock off on teams that bring in choice-locked pokemon that mew has resistances to. One of the major appeals to this pokemon on my team is its ability to check the Nidos, which my team had a lot of problems with. Mew is a great pokemon and probably the best defogger in this meta.
Synergy Checker:
Ghost: Houndoom and Hydreigon
Dark: Houndoom, Hydreigon, Florges
Bug: Florges
Cobalt (Swampert) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Roar
Finally the physically defensive, roaring, stealth rocking presence that ties this team together. Swampert has already established himself as one of the premier physically defensive pokemon in the tier. The moveset and EVs are typical, but they work. Scald for the burn, EQ for STAB, rocks for obvious reasons and roar to stop people from setting up. Cloyster gets stopped cold, Crocune gets stopped cold, etc. He can switch into every fire type in the tier except for Mixtini and Chandelure with Energy Ball.
Synergy Checker:
Grass: Hydreigon, Jirachi, Houndoom
Thank you everyone for reading this (extremely long) RMT. Please offer any suggestions you have, this team is by no means perfect.
