Hi, this was a pretty successful team i've used on smogon, and I want to see how to make it better, and possibly be THE most successful team. My record with this so far is 22-3.
The first look:
Now that you have seen the team, I may begin. Welcome to the world of bulky balance. You may not understand what this means at first, but I assure you that you will after I explain it.
Gliscor (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252HP/40Def/216Spe
Nature: Impish
- Aerial Ace
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Roost
I was originally inspired to make this team simply because of this guy right here. While I was playing against some person using some other team of mine, I met him. He epicly walled my entire team, outstalling with roost and just owning it in general. I remember that. I looked him up on smogon, and saw how amazing he is. I decided to use him as my lead. It OHKOs Luke with Earthquake, who I have problems with. I use hyper cutter over Sand Veil because the only 2 pokemon in OU are either 2HKOed by Earthquake (Tyranitar), or Setup Fodder for Swampert (Hippowdon). Hyper cutter seems more useful in general. Aerial Ace is the surprise factor in my gliscor. It outspeeds breloom while OHKOing it with Aerial Ace.
Swampert (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252HP/40Def/216SDef
Nature: Careful
- Waterfall
- Curse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Restalk Cursepert is pretty amazing. Able to survive Max spA LO Infernape’s grass knot, as well as Lucario’s CC after a single curse, this thing is harder to kill than you think. After it gets a few curses up, it becomes nearly unstoppable without a phazer. Usually Cresselia will toxic me, then attempt to stall me out while I curse. When I reach about 35% HP, I rest, and the opponent goes, “sh**”. I then proceed to sweep their whole team. Its quite amazing how often it happens, actually.
Zapdos (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248HP/228Def/32 Spe
Nature: Bold
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- Roar
Ah, my zapdos. I’ve always wanted to use this thing in a team, but I could never find a place to put it. This fits nearly perfectly with my team – Giving it a phazer, another physical wall, and a fire move for those pesky grass types that own Swampert. Not much to say here.
Porygon2 @ Leftovers
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252HP/216Def/40SpA
Nature: Bold
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Thunder Wave
- Recover
Famous Boltbeam combination on top of 105 base special attack with 90/95 defenses and 85 base HP is amazing. Add to that a move which allows it to heal itself, and an ability that lets them copy their opponents ability (Swift swim, lol), and you have one KICKASS pokemon. Yes caps were needed. Tracing Gyara + Mence’s Intimidate, it can survive pretty much anything they throw at him, while OHKOing back with Thunderbolt or Ice Beam, respectively. It also serves as a switchin for Heatran, Jolteon, Vaporeon, and others.
Hariyama (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 80HP/172Atk/4Spe/252SpD
Nature: Careful
- Force Palm
- Ice Punch
- Payback
- Stone Edge
Hariyama is a saving grace. Being able to take craploads of attacks while KOing with Payback is awesome. Nothing much to say here. Also serves as my rotom counter.
Magnezone @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 172HP/84Spe/252SpA
Nature: Modest
- Thunderbolt
- HP Grass
- Magnet Rise
- Substitute
Ah, magnezone. The most hated pokemon among those dragon/steel offensive teams. This is the standard Steel Killer version. It surprises me how many Swamperts like to switch in on this thing after I rape their Scizor only to get hit full force by an HP grass. After it gets a sub up and magnet rise up, this thing is nearly unstoppable.
Now that I have introduced this team to you, you should now understand how the world of Bulky Balance works. Every single pokemon on this team is able to sweep an entire team while being able to wall an entire team at the exact same time. Having huge type coverage while countering many of platinum’s top threats help quite a bit as well. Thank you for reading this RMT. Please leave a comment or something.
A closing look:
Oh right, and a Marriland Team builder chart, because I’m too tired right now to show the team building process.
