The Bulky Balance - An OU RMT

Hi, this was a pretty successful team i've used on smogon, and I want to see how to make it better, and possibly be THE most successful team. My record with this so far is 22-3.

The first look:

Now that you have seen the team, I may begin. Welcome to the world of bulky balance. You may not understand what this means at first, but I assure you that you will after I explain it.

gliscor.png

Gliscor (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252HP/40Def/216Spe
Nature: Impish
- Aerial Ace
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Roost

I was originally inspired to make this team simply because of this guy right here. While I was playing against some person using some other team of mine, I met him. He epicly walled my entire team, outstalling with roost and just owning it in general. I remember that. I looked him up on smogon, and saw how amazing he is. I decided to use him as my lead. It OHKOs Luke with Earthquake, who I have problems with. I use hyper cutter over Sand Veil because the only 2 pokemon in OU are either 2HKOed by Earthquake (Tyranitar), or Setup Fodder for Swampert (Hippowdon). Hyper cutter seems more useful in general. Aerial Ace is the surprise factor in my gliscor. It outspeeds breloom while OHKOing it with Aerial Ace.

swampert.png

Swampert (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252HP/40Def/216SDef
Nature: Careful
- Waterfall
- Curse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Restalk Cursepert is pretty amazing. Able to survive Max spA LO Infernape’s grass knot, as well as Lucario’s CC after a single curse, this thing is harder to kill than you think. After it gets a few curses up, it becomes nearly unstoppable without a phazer. Usually Cresselia will toxic me, then attempt to stall me out while I curse. When I reach about 35% HP, I rest, and the opponent goes, “sh**”. I then proceed to sweep their whole team. Its quite amazing how often it happens, actually.

zapdos.png

Zapdos (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248HP/228Def/32 Spe
Nature: Bold
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- Roar

Ah, my zapdos. I’ve always wanted to use this thing in a team, but I could never find a place to put it. This fits nearly perfectly with my team – Giving it a phazer, another physical wall, and a fire move for those pesky grass types that own Swampert. Not much to say here.

porygon2.png

Porygon2 @ Leftovers
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252HP/216Def/40SpA
Nature: Bold
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Thunder Wave
- Recover

Famous Boltbeam combination on top of 105 base special attack with 90/95 defenses and 85 base HP is amazing. Add to that a move which allows it to heal itself, and an ability that lets them copy their opponents ability (Swift swim, lol), and you have one KICKASS pokemon. Yes caps were needed. Tracing Gyara + Mence’s Intimidate, it can survive pretty much anything they throw at him, while OHKOing back with Thunderbolt or Ice Beam, respectively. It also serves as a switchin for Heatran, Jolteon, Vaporeon, and others.

hariyama.png

Hariyama (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 80HP/172Atk/4Spe/252SpD
Nature: Careful
- Force Palm
- Ice Punch
- Payback
- Stone Edge

Hariyama is a saving grace. Being able to take craploads of attacks while KOing with Payback is awesome. Nothing much to say here. Also serves as my rotom counter.

magnezone.png

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 172HP/84Spe/252SpA
Nature: Modest
- Thunderbolt
- HP Grass
- Magnet Rise
- Substitute

Ah, magnezone. The most hated pokemon among those dragon/steel offensive teams. This is the standard Steel Killer version. It surprises me how many Swamperts like to switch in on this thing after I rape their Scizor only to get hit full force by an HP grass. After it gets a sub up and magnet rise up, this thing is nearly unstoppable.

Now that I have introduced this team to you, you should now understand how the world of Bulky Balance works. Every single pokemon on this team is able to sweep an entire team while being able to wall an entire team at the exact same time. Having huge type coverage while countering many of platinum’s top threats help quite a bit as well. Thank you for reading this RMT. Please leave a comment or something.

Oh right, and a Marriland Team builder chart, because I’m too tired right now to show the team building process.

why is rotom even a problem? resttalk pert is like the best switch into rotom (save rotom-c) ever =\

you have surprisingly little coverage vs celebi for a resttalk cursepert team. the only thing it's actually worried about is zapdos (hariyama/gliscor and p2 hardly dent it with their SE attacks) and it can throw twaves continuously until your team is largely crippled.

standard LO infernape can also ohko a good portion of your team. zapdos wont like switching into fireblasts especially with sr down, and hariyama has no recovery. SD ice punch luke is also troublesome for this team

ts tentacruel could help with both celebi and nape (it doesn't exactly check celebi but celebi hates TS). you could test him over yama (ts will help you beat most blissey. if you do test ts, try subroost zapdos to help you stall out stuff. (sub over roar and speed to beat lucario)

@ThePowerWithin, gorm.
Yea, Hariyama is my weak link. Tentacruel seems iffy though. I'm thinking about CB Scizor right now.

Generally, my Nape counter is swampert, provided they don't grass knot on the switch (Not that they'd have any reason to, none of my team is weak to grass except him). Unless they're NP nape or specs, swampert can generally handle them.

Ice punch Luke gets handled by swampert as well, I believe.

@xWOLFYx.
What would you suggest I do to fix that problem? Although thanks for alerting me, I now see quite a big mixmence problem. If I do switch to scizor, however, it will be quite a bit lower, considering it can KO a typical mixmence with BP at ~50%

You are pretty LO mix-ape weak, as many have said. One thing we could do without changing the entire team is to make Magnezone a scarfer. This will not only help you with mixape, but will also help against SD Lucario with Ice punch(If they don't have ice punch you need not worry), OHKOing it with hp-fire:

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Magnet Pull
Evs:4 atk/252 spatk/252 spe
Naive
- Thunderbolt
- HP-Fire
- Flash Cannon
- Signal Beam/explosion

With naive it outspeeds Positive nature base 110s as well as infernape. signal beam is better over Explosion for it being able to hit Celebi for ridiculous damage, although explosion is quite a bit more powerful on other pokes.

Hariyama doesn't function well in OU imo, and I think a Rest-talk machamp would work nicely over it. It gets dynamicpunch which will help you with bulky things like CM cune and vaporeon, and payback will help you take on the rotom formes. And as a resttalker, it makes a very good status absorber:

Machamp @ Leftovers
No Guard
Evs: 252 hp/252 atk/4 spe
adamant
- DynamicPunch
- Rest
- SleepTalk
- Payback

Hope i helped and good luck with the team :DD (p.s. sorry it wasn't as long as my other ones, i'm p. tired and this team is good enough xD)
