XY OU The Comeback Begins! (1600 ELO and climbing)

Hey all, thanks for taking the time for reading my RMT! I am recently getting back into OU once again after playing a lot of VGC 2014. It feels great to be back playing OU again I suppose.

I built this team around a bulky-dragon dance Charizard X spread that my bro Darkerones recommended and overall the team has been fairly successful on the ladder.

In-Depth

charizard-mega-x.gif

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze --> Tough Claws
EVs: 248 HP / 136 Atk / 124 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Roost
The star of the team. Huge shout-out to my bro Darkerones for sharing this EV spread. This Charizard has been a key win condition in almost every single one of the battles that I have had on the ladder. The HP EVs allow it to take the minimal possible damage from Stealth Rock while maximizing HP bulk which allows it to setup and Roost off damage in even the most unlikely matchups and start taking out key parts of my opponent's team.

Questions regarding Charizard:

- Is investing a little bit into Sp. Def worth it for a better Keldeo 1v1 matchup? Or should I just forget about it and just find a better opportunity to switch Charizard in?

heatran.gif

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Earth Power
Farewell Mamoswine, hello Heatran! Heatran was added in to supplement the Stealth Rock as well as have tools to deal with the ever-present threat of Fairy types. Roar is also a very valuable tool to send boosted Pokemon packing as well as racking up the Stealth Rock damage. The 44 Speed EVs is to speed creep opposing Heatrans who want to speed creep Mega Mawile.

(Creds to Darkerones and Unbirthday's contributions to this set).

bisharp.gif

Bisharp @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Low Kick
- Sucker Punch
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
Bisharp provides yet another solid check to eliminate most Fairy Pokemon out of Charizard X's way and can even sweep teams on its own. Along with Mamoswine, I can put pressure on the opponent to Defog the Stealth Rocks away for that Defiant boost or force switches to setup a Swords Dance. Knock Off has also been a wonderful move to cripple Eviolite Chansey and such.

EDIT: Added Low Kick for another check for Tyranitar. Will test Pursuit as well.

azumarill.gif

Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 196 HP / 252 Atk / 60 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Knock Off
- Play Rough
Ah, the good-ol AV Azumarill. This lil bunny packs so much power while taking hits like it doesn't care. Azumarill also provides a wonderful check for opposing dragons that threaten Charizard and other members of the team.

Questions regarding Azumarill:
- Should I stick with the Assault Vest? Or possibly consider the Belly Drum set for an additional threat to my opponent?
- Are these EVs the most optimal for AV Azumarill? Or is there a better spread?

thundurus.gif

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 56 Atk / 200 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Superpower
As of yet, my team is all physical attackers, so I added Thundurus onto the squad to fire off powerful special attacks and provide that nice emergency Prankster Thunder Wave to shut down enemy Dragon Dancers and some Choice Scarf users.

With the addition of Superpower on this Thundurus, it allows me to bait incoming Tyranitars and Heatrans who think they can setup Stealth Rocks in the face of my Thundurus as well as hitting Bisharp nicely as well.

latias.gif

Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Healing Wish
And last...but not least, we have Latias. She provides that ever-necessary Defog support to keep those nasty Stealth Rocks away from the team, especially Charizard. Draco Meteor provides nice powerful STAB to get good chip damage, Psyshock ruins Mega Venusaur and company, and finally Healing Wish allows Latias to sacrifice itself to give a team member (usually Charizard X) a second breath of life to fight once more.

So yeah, that's the team overall. Let me know what you think in regards to EV spreads, team members, etc. Thank you very much!

Former Teammates:

Mamoswine @ Focus Sash
Ability: Oblivious
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Endeavor
- Ice Shard
- Stealth Rock
Due to the ever-present threat of Fairy types, I retired Mamoswine from this team and put Heatran on the team. Endeavor was such a fun tactic, but I shall bring Mamoswine back on another team :)

Hey, as it stands your team is rather weak to Fairy attacks in general and Mega Mawile/CM Clefable in particular. While you do have ways to kill them, they can come in for almost free against both Azumarill and Latias and start putting the hurt on your whole team. For that reason, I would suggest replacing your Mamoswine with a Specially Defensive Heatran. While you lose a priority move, Heatran allows you to beat Mawile without Focus Punch by utilizing Will-O-Wisp, beats Calm Mind Clefable via Taunt and gives you a solid answer to most Mega Venusaur. It also acts as an actual counter to Talonflame, meaning you can keep Thundurus healthy for Pinsir against flying spam. Finally, it also allows you to give Charizard more setup opportunities by burning opponents, allowing you to easily set up multiple Dragon Dances against foes such as Azumarill. While you lose a check for non-Focus Blast Thundurus, you should be fine as between Latias, your own Thundurus, Charizard X and Sucker Punch from Bisharp you have plenty of ways to kill it. While you also lose the ability to "lure" Keldeo leads into attacking you and crippling them with Endeavor, you have Azuarill and Latias for Keldeo (and Thundurus to revenge kill it), so you should be fine. It also gives you another potential switchin to Latios, meaning that it will have a lot more trouble predicting your switchin. As you now have Venusaur covered, I would suggest using Superpower or Focus Blast on Thundurus. Superpower is inviting to hit Chansey hard, but Focus Blast is still an option if you want to hit Ferrothorn harder.

This team is gay and you should feel bad.

jk buddy, anyway I agree with Unbirthday that while Mamoswine is a great Pokemon, you need a harder check to Fairy types.
However, I would recommend a spread of 248 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe on Heatran and I would consider Earth Power somewhere on that set (maybe over Wisp) to beat other Heatran and really take advantage of your speed creeping EVs. Plus, you don't have much else to wear down opposing Heatran besides AV Azu, who can be easily worn down itself.
Roar > Taunt is also another good option to consider on Heatran if you're concerned about Mawile and other set up sweepers and opt for Earth Power > Wisp.

I don't see Swords Dance doing much for your Bisharp and that slot can just as easily go to something like Pursuit or even Stealth Rocks to free up a slot on Heatran/Mamoswine, because imo Orbed Mamoswine is much better than lead Mamoswine if you do decide to keep it.
I'd also consider running Low Kick over Iron Head if you decide to switch to Heatran, as then you'll be very weak to Tyranitar and having a way to OHKO it with Bisharp will come in handy and it also hits opposing Heatran.
Using Superpower on Thundurus like in Unbirthday's set can also alleviate some of the pressure Tyranitar puts on your team.

Not much else to say here, looks like a solid team and good luck

Thanks for your input, Unbirthday! I originally wanted to put Mamoswine on this team as a fun lead as well as a nice check for all of the dragons and genies running all over the place on the ladder, but tis is true that Mawile and Clefable do give me problems. I really like these tips and it does solve a lot of problems that the team was having. I will be missing mah boy Mamoswine, but I will look into making a team where I can include Mamoswine.

On a side note, thanks for helping make the Crystalized team! I actually had a slightly different version of that team with an offensive Mega Venusaur, but I wanted to try out this team in the post. Cool stuff :)
