"The definitive competitive Pokémon game"

Hi!
This toppic originaly appeared during an argument on a Discord server of another creature-catching game different from Pokémon, between a breeder player and a TO on their oppinion about how a competitive comunity would react given one particular situation.

The situation:
Game Freak finally did it. Coming hand to hand with a new Pokémon main game, they will release a new Pokémon spin-off game focused to competitive players. The game is balanced exactly like whatever you think the best and fairest pokémon meta should be. In fact, its even better: The best player always win, and hax/rng is almost irrelevant on a match outcome now because of how the game is balanced (they even use a fair tier system!). The new game has now even more tools oriented to competitive players, like an enriched replay system with more fancy options, in game tournaments and ladder... whatever you want. The thing is that on the first look, the game is amazing for players focused on casual/hardcore competitive play.

Buuuut... the game has a downside. A huuuge downside. Game Freak designed the game in a way were hacking pokémon is impossible. You can trade pokémon with other players, but only on this version of the game, where they cant be modified or injected, and you can't trade with other games where you can hack the creatures. The only way to get a perfect team is by trading or exchanging.

Is not as bad as it looks, anyways! With the new tools that the new game offers, once you hit endgame, you only need arround 15 mins to breed any pokemon you want and set it ready for competitive play (atacks, level, ivs, evs and skills all included). Farming a pokémon team has never been so easy! (excluding, you know, hacking.) And you can go to Showdown to test your team before training it, too!

On the other hand, the main pokemon game is still as hackeable as ever, and the meta is... well, like the current meta, can be better, can be worst.
The Pokemon World Championsip would hold both the standar version and the "competitive" version now, and the last one would gain considerable traction.

With those facts in mind... Would you play the 'superior' version, being forced to breed your pokemons, even if is easy, or would you play the standar version to evade the breeding thing?

Hi,

This is the general discussion board on this website—not a Pokemon forum.

I’m not sure what forum this type of thread would go in (MAAYBE Orange Islands, but double check with the mods of that section before posting it).

Also looking through the post the question feels pretty one-sided because the only “downside” is completely invalidated by the next paragraph (the only reason people hack stuff in is to save time, which is no longer a concern given that it would take as long to hack something as it would take to breed it legitimately), so if the OI (or whatever section) mods say it’s OK to post it’s probably worth rethinking the question so that it’s no longer unbalanced.

Welcome to Smogon!
