Okey, so I'm a player who loves to experiment with lesser used Pokémon. And this is one perfect example of a team that really works out!
The challenge for this was to spell out a word with Pokémon, but I let that slip after a while :p The word was supposed to be Insect
Original team: Ivysaur, Nidoking, Starmie, Entei, Chatot, Thunderus
After a few rounds of playing, I knew Chatot just wasn't going to work because it's way too fragile. So I swapped it for something with hazards, because so far nothing on my
team had hazard. So I chose Forretress.
Then Thunderus got banned, so I swapped him with his little brother Tornadus.
This team has some weird things running around, but it works very good, so let me introduce them to you.
Ivysaur (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 168 Def / 252 SAtk / 88 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Energy Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis
- Toxic
This little guy is EPIC! He's a very good lead and completely underrated because of his big brother Venusaur. This thing can take down a Politoed in one turn while taking an
Ice Beam with a slither of health left, as long as the opponent isn't Specs.
Both STAB moves are present, and a recovery move, which with the current weather wars doesn't always work as well as it should, but it's still nice to have.
Toxic is just to cripple anything that isn't a steel type :p
Nidoking (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
The well known Sheer Orb Nidoking, it just wrecks as long as you play it safe, because it's typing is very fragile since there are a lot of ground types around and Reuniclus
always watching you.
It has great coverage with BoltBeam, Flamethrower and STAB Earth Power.
Starmie @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 196 HP / 60 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Magic Coat
- Recover
- Rapid Spin
A common set with a little twist, most Starmies carry Ice Beam, I tried to go with the Magic Coat. Just because nobody expects it. It has bad coverage because of that
however. Recover just because any healing move is always usefull and Rapid Spin because I prefer Explosion on Foretress. Hydro Pump for a nice STAB move, even though it
doesn't have a very good accuracy.
Entei @ Choice Band
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Flare Blitz
- Iron Head
- ExtremeSpeed
- Stone Edge
Physical Entei. Yay for events!! I really like this set, it just f*cks sh*t up. Not many people have tried physical Entei, so most people don't know what to expect from it, which
gives you the element of surprise.
Flare Blitz and ES are the event moves, so people know those, but nobody ever predicted an Iron Head on me :p
Stone edge for a nice final element, and more coverage.
Keep Starmie alive for this!! Because of the SR weakness with the choice, you really can't use them.
Forretress (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 20 HP / 236 Def / 252 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Explosion
A well known set with a little twist in the EV's
Gyro Ball to do some damage at least, Rocks and Spikes are obvious and Explosion when you have nothing to take something, as long as you get a safe switch into
Forretress, it'll even take down Latios and some other hard sweepers.
Tornadus (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Dark Pulse
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Hurricane
- Focus Blast
When Thunderus got banned I was like... Damn! He was the sweeper of my team, but Tornadus quickly took it's place.
I really love this set. Awesome coverage, great speed and scarf, really hard to outspeed. With this coverage it can take down pretty much anything.
Dark Pulse is great for Psychics
Hidden Power Ground is something you really wouldn't expect on Tornadus, however, it's great, because it takes down all the Rock types who try to take you down.
Hurricane is a great STAB move, but with the weather wars it isn't always as good as it can be.
Focus Blast is to top it off, for complete coverage.
It's very weak to SR however, so as soon as Starmie goes down, you have to watch the switching because of the Scarf.
