The Hunger Games!

HGlogo.jpg

So here is a quite successful ou team. If you can't tell, the nicknames are based off of the book series The Hunger Games. I've played about 10 or so matches with this team and so far I haven't lost on PO. I've modified this team a few times to take care of some old weaknesses, but I think I want some help now. Please take a look at the team and tell me if there are any really big threats in the metagame this team couldn't handle.

terrakion.jpg

Terrakion (Haymitch) @ Choice Band - Powerhouse
Nature: Adamant [+Atk, -Atk]
Ability: Justified
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
-Close Combat
-Stone Edge
-X-Scissor
-Earthquake
In Depth:
This guy is a very powerful poke, especially with CB, and has very respectable speed at 108. He outspeeds most guys and OHKO's most guys. Why wouldn't I want him on my team? Anyways, he's pretty standard this way. Also, I don't find Jolly to be that useful so I run Adamant. Yup.

haxorus.jpg

Haxorus (Thresh) @ Choice Scarf - Revenge Killer
Nature: Adamant [+Atk, -SpA]
Ability: Mold Breaker
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Brick Break
-Dual Chop
In Depth:
Yes, a very good revenge killer indeed. His ability moldbreaker makes cerain pokes that could potentially take him on useless. It also means he doesn't have to lock himself into outrage so early or carry dragon claw. That's good because then I would have 3 Dragon moves on him because there's no way I'm getting rid of Dual Chop; it saves me so much from baton pass teams. He is also great late game.

celebi.jpg

Celebi (Rue) @ Leftovers - Defensive Wall/Core 1
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Thunder Wave
- Hidden Power [fire]
- Recover
In Depth:
Thanks to Expert Physics for suggesting Celebi for this team. He functions as part of my core and is a good defensive wall. Thunder Wave is to let fast pokemon be made slow to be Terrakion's prey. Giga Drain is STAB and works to give my team a grass move. Another thing my team uses him for is to stop the Rotom w/Scizor combo with HP [fire] and Giga Drain. They both almost OHKO each poke so neither will want to switch in, ruining momentum for the enemy. Finally, Natural Cure is always good.

heatran.jpg

Heatran (Peeta) @ Leftovers - Special Wall/Core 2
Nature: Calm [+SpD, -Atk]
Ability: Flash Fire
252 HP / 8 Spe / 216 SpD / 32 SpA
-Lava Plume
-Hidden Power [ice]
-Stealth Rock
-Protect
In Depth:
So you know, Peeta is Heatran because they're both so derpy. Anyways, this is my special wall. Thanks to Karpman for suggesting him. Lava Plume is STAB and has a good chance to burn. I normally run Fire Blast, but there's enough firepower (ha, get it? :P) with Volcarona on the team. HP [ice] is to take out dragons once they're in on Heatran if need be, though it's mostly just that I personally like the coverage it gives I guess. Stealth Rock is a must, and Protect is one of the best moves in the game to me because of its great gift of scouting.

volcarona.jpg

Volcarona (Katniss) @ Leftovers - Sweeper
Nature: Timid [+Spe, -Atk]
Ability: Flame Body
4 HP / 252 Spe / 252 SpA
-Fiery Dance
-Bug Buzz
-HP [ground]
-Quiver Dance
In Depth:
Here is the Girl on Fire herself. She is my sweeper, as far as set up sweeping goes. It also fits into my core as the fire poke. Timid speed to outspeed base 100 scarfers, though this may be changed to modest because the lack of life orb really takes the power down. Leftovers over life orb so living 2 Stealth Rock switch-ins is possible. Quiver Dance is to set up, with the dual STAB moves for power. Finally, HP [ground] is to take out opposing pokes who otherwise wall Volcarona like Heatran.

starmie.jpg

Starmie (Finnick) @ Leftovers - Rapid Spinner/Core 3
Nature: Modest [+SpA, -Atk]
Ability: Natural Cure
252 HP / 252 Spe / 4 SpA
-Surf
-Thunderbolt
-Recover
-Rapid Spin
In Depth:
Starmie is to provide Rapid Spin support for Volcarona and help against some threats to this team. Starmie adds an electric move to this team and he works great at stopping many rain teams and Gyarados. He's mostly here for rapid spin though. Besides, who could resist Finnick O'dair?

=D

Importable:
Katniss (Volcarona) (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd

- Hidden Power [Ground]
Haymitch (Terrakion) @ Choice Band
Trait: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- X-Scissor
Thresh (Haxorus) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Mold Breaker
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Outrage
- Brick Break

- Hidden Power [Ice]
Rue (Celebi) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Recover
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Thunder Wave
Anyways, that's the team. Sorry for the short descriptions, but I threw this RMT together pretty hastily since I was bored wasn't really awake enough to go too far in depth. Hopefully you like it, and any criticism is appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Hey,

Overall; solid team. I'd like to point out a few things. First off, Terrakion needs a Jolly Nature in order to outspeed Choice Scarf Landorus and revenge-kill it before it kills you. Adamant does give you more power, but you can't outspeed Scarf Landorus. From a quick look, opposing Scarf Terrakions are a huge problem for your team. You can't reliably send in any Pokemon in against it. Since your Ferrothorn seems to be replaceable, I'd switch it in favor of a Defensive Celebi. This guy lets you beat Terrakion, and it lets you beat opposing Gastrodons and Quagsire as well. It also has Natural Cure as ability, which means it can dodge status effects. Now, on to the set description. Thunder Wave is a great support move that allow you to cripple Scarf users. It also lets Haxorus outspeed them and take them out with the appropriate move. Giga Drain is a STAB lets you gain back HP. Stealth Rock is the mandatory hazard, whilst Recover lets you gain back 50% of your health in one shot. The EVs let you take physical hits very well. The set itself can be found below.
Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spe
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock
- Recover
Jolly Nature > Adamant Nature on Terrakion
Pros: Outspeeds Scarf Landorus.
Cons: Slight drop of power.

Defensive Celebi > Ferrothorn
Pros: More insurance against Terrakion.
Cons: More open to Dragons.
Well, I hope my rate was helpful. Good luck with your team!

Great advice. I was thinking about defensive Celebi as a replacement early in the teambuilding, but I was a little scared about the ghost weakness. I think though that it won't make a huge difference overall. Thanks for the reply.

Hello,

There is not much to say here because your team got pretty much better after inserting celebi. However, there is something that i would like to add.
Since Volcarona is your main sweeper, you can't really classify him as an early, mid or late game sweeper, he can just sweep whenever you want. Now, referring to that, i think that you should cover his counters more efficiently. You can easily do that just by switching the items of Terrakion and Haxorus. Haxorus has the power to OHKO Gyarados,Dragonite, salamence, and landorus (which are Volcarona's main counters) with Scarf outrage. By giving Terrakion the band he can rip through Skarmories and other Physical walls. Only Celebi,Slowbro and Gliscor can efficiently stop him, however, they are handeled by Volcarona.
I would also give Starmie Expert belt instead of LO because Starmie would be destroyed in sandstorm with LO

Conclusion: CB on Terrakion
Choice scarf on Haxorus
Expert belt on Starmie

I hope i helped

Hey there,

At first glance, I can see this team having a bit of a weakness to Chlorophyll Abusers on offensive sun teams, namely Sawsbuck and Venusaur, but Lilligant and many other Chlorophyll abusers are capable of causing problems in their own right. Sawsbuck is capable of forcing out Gastrodon to get a Swords Dance up, at which point it can sweep your team, seeing as to how it can outspeed your Scarf Terrakion [and OHKO with +2 Horn Leech]. Volcarona would be a decent means of beating sun teams otherwise, but it's spread isn't very defensive, so Sawsbuck is able to KO Volcarona with +2 Return. Celebi remains the only team member who isn't OHKO'd by Sawsbuck at +2, but there's a high probability of Stealth Rock pushing it into KO territory, so it's not a very solid check. Venusaur is also quite threatening, as it threatens nearly everything except Volcarona on your team between Giga Drain/Solarbeam and Sludge Bomb, and even Volcarona risks a 2HKO upon switching into unboosted Sludge Bomb. Overall, you sit at a disadvantage against Sun teams by running clear skies and not carrying any hard checks to sun. You can deal with your Sawsbuck problem by trying a Defensive Tangrowth over Celebi. Tangrowth's Physical bulk exceeds that of Celebi's and also has Regenerator, which allows it to last for a long time during a match and also be able to take on a threat multiple times. Tangrowth is a good means of beating Sawsbuck, doing a great deal of damage with Hidden Power Ice while tanking its Return. To fix your weakness to Specially Oriented Sun Abusers, I think you could possibly try a Specially Defensive Heatran over Gastrodon. Specially Defensive Heatran is capable of surviving this onslaught of nearly every Specially Oriented Pokemon that is commonly seen on a sun team, and is hailed as being one of the best counters to sun, it also holds the benefit of laying Stealth Rock, so you don't lose that quality of Celebi if you so choose to take the suggestion of Tangrowth. Heatran also has fantastic synergy with Gastrodon and a grass type [either Bi or Growth, depending on what you decide to do], forming a core that few threats can effectively get through alone.

Sets:

dpiconani465.gif

Tangrowth (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Leech Seed

dpiconani485.gif

Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 236 SDef / 20 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Flamethrower
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Protect

Finally, I think you could make a few moveset changes, just to increase your team's overall effectiveness. I think this team is better off with Starmie using the standard Rapid Spin set, since it has some defensive elements to it, and Starmie will end up burning itself out against teams with Pokemon like rocky helmet Ferrothorn, ensuring hazards will continue to stay up. Additionally, another check to rain is always appreciated, as many Rain teams will have a plan of getting past Gastrodon, and Starmie can provide just that. Overall, using the standard set can increase Starmie's staying power, and as long as Starmie is kept alive, you're able to keep hazards off of your side of the field. I also think you could try Earthquake over Ice Beam on Gastrodon [and a Sassy Nature if you choose to do this]. Earthquake allows Gastrodon to function as a hard counter to nearly all Calm Mind Raikou and Jirachi and also holds the benefit of beating Tormentran/doing more damage to Heatran [and other fire types, which might take less from Scald if sun is up]. Finally, I suggest using Rivalry as Haxorus's ability, as the default gender on Pokemon Online is Male, so you'll be hitting many Pokemon 25% harder.

dpiconani121.gif

Starmie @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin
- Recover

Change Summary:

Gastrodon:

Ice Beam->Earthquake and Sassy Nature

Haxorus:

Mold Breaker->Rivalry

Ice Beam

Good suggestions. I'm right now testing that Starmie set and Heatran, but I'm definitely keeping mold breaker on my Haxorus. I also think I should stick to celebi because of it's good countering to scizor/rotom combos which is why I'm also testing it out with HP [fire] over Stealth Rock. I am also trying the switched items on Haxorus and Terrakion to see how they work, and I should have a final decision on all of these by tomorrow. Thanks for rating everyone.

Okay, I made my final edits for now based on the suggestions given and the testing done and decided this is so far the best the team has been. The only thing I'm not sure of is Starmie, so I'll probably find a better set for him or maybe even a replacement :O. Still, thanks for reading!
