The John Q. Team ~ Mixed team

Warden2.jpg

Hello all you wonderful people of Smogon, today I present you with my newest team. It's called "T John Q. Team" because it specializes in no particular area. It's meant to be a rounded, balanced team with a mix of offense and defense. Pondering at this point at what to say, it might be better just to show you my team.

The thought process:
So first off, you need to start somewhere. I quite liked the new Technician Breloom, so I decided to start off with that and go from there.

Since Breloom is quite frail, it was obvious we need a wall of some sort. Blissey is always a great wall, so it's a good choice (when is it not?)

Obviously, you can't win with fragile and defensive Pokemon (unless you stall out). So, I decided that Togekiss and its hacks would be a great Pokemon to add in.

Now we needed a mixed attacker that could sponge some hits (ironically, a Technician Breloom would sweep my team). Salamence, anyone?

At this point, I decided to opt for another special attacker. Meloetta is something I don't see very often, and I don't understand why. It has great Special Attacker and good Special Defense. Added.

Okay, so now the problem is that my Pokemon are vulnerable to SR, so a spinner at this point is necessary. Along with that, my team would gladly appreciate both a physical wall and a physical Pokemon. There were a bunch of choices (Donphan, Hitmontop, Forretress) but I opted for Cloyster due to its typing and its monstrous defense.

I'm still up for changes (there's a reason why I posted here) but right now this is pretty solid. It's not perfect, but it covers many weakness and has many options for attacking.

Now for the Pokemon...

Sublime (Blissey) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature
- Aromatherapy
- Softboiled
- Flamethrower
- Toxic

(Sublime because it's so damn happy all the time). Blissey is the standard Special Wall. I don't know what you were expecting when I put her on my team. She sponges all the hits that my Pokemon can't take, while also getting rid of any status effects (and possibly crippling the opponents Pokemon). What else should I say? It's god damn Blissey.

I've truly considered putting Counter of Blissey, but there's just not a whole lot of room to put it on. I could dump Toxic, but it's always good to have it to prevent sweepers.

Pool Shark (Salamence) (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 64 Atk / 192 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor
- Outrage
- Earthquake

(Pool Shark because... fuck, I don't know, no one likes going up against a pool shark and no one likes going up against a Salamence? Shit, get off my case!)Salamence is my mixed sweeper. It's always good to have one in case the opponent has a bunch of Physical and Special tanks. It covers a lot of weaknesses, mainly Technician Breloom. It has its weaknesses, but its good at what it is.

GardnGrove (Breloom) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Spore
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed
- Substitute

(GardnGrove because it's a green mushroom and ten character limit.)Breloom is my glass cannon attacker. Its crippling flaws can be overlooked if set up right, as a 394 technician boosted Mach Punch or Bullet Seed rips through most Pokemon. Spore and Substitute are always a necessity, as it allows Breloom to be able to take at least two hits before biting the dust (if they allow that). It is glassy, which may lead to its downfall, but a right setup normally nets me at least one dead Pokemon.

Boss D.J. (Meloetta) @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Thunder
- Shadow Ball

[Boss D.J. because it's music. Also, Meloetta is so nice~)I'd be willing to bet that 90% of people who play Pokemon don't even know Meloetta exists. I'd also be willing to bet that out of the remaining 10%, 9% assume all of them are Relic Song based. Not only does Meloetta make a good surprise, most people don't know how to deal with her. I opted not to go for a Relic set because I don't need anymore physical attackers. Instead, I chose Calm Mind in order to increase bulk and take on many threats. She has gotten some good kills and tricked many ghost types, so she is a staple on my team.

Badfish(?) (Cloyster) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Skill Link
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Atk / 176 Def
Impish Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Icicle Spear
- Ice Shard

(Badfish(?) because oysters are technically not fish, but it's really hard to pass that name by ;_;)Cloyster is both my Physical wall and my spinner. It doesn't run the standard shell smash set because I really need it to be as defensive as possible. Both of its moves are ice typed because it makes it a good revenge killer, as well as a decent attacker if need be.

I often consider switching her out for a Hitmontop, but it's just so good at its job. Unfortunately, I don't have the need for Toxic Spikes and I'm looking to find another move, because they hardly get put down. Any suggestions would be nice ^^

Santeria (Togekiss) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Air Cutter
- Aura Sphere
- Roost

(Santeria because I'm convinced it used black magic to make me flinch all the time >:()Togekiss is both a good defensive Pokemon and an amazing attacker after a Nasty Plot setup. It makes quite the sweeper if you make the misfortune of letting it setup, causing for some tough times for the opponent. I've been hit by Stone Edge multiple times and have still lives with more than half health. What a beast.

Checks and counters:
Unfortunately, not everything can be perfect. You will never find a perfect team and mine is no exception. Genesect ruins my team, as a U-turn checks itself against Blissey and has all its other moves at its disposal. I'm fairly certain a Nidoking could do the same, though they're not that common. Ditto is also particularly annoying, as it requires me to switch out in order to preserve my Pokemon. I've also had some major trouble against Thundurus-T, especially if it's in a Rain Team (who also make decent counters). I'm sure a Hail Team could kick my ass too, though they're pretty uncommon. Crippling my Pokemon also just ruins everything, often causing me to lose if a burn gets put on my Breloom or Salamence.

I suppose that's all. Please tell me what you think, I appreciate any help I get. Thanks :3

Take a look at blissey's EVs again.
If you want your cloyster to be defensive, you are better off running a ferrothorn as it counters some of the threats you face. Maybe except life orb thundurus-t which has focus blast. Nothing resists electric type except breloom, but she does not take any hit well, so yeah.
Usually for breloom, I would either go technician+SD or poison heal+sub, but it's okay I guess.
Well actually, most of the sets are uncommon, which is good for a surprise.
Reject or ignore this if you wish. I am not the best at rating teams.

it was pretty late when i made this ;_;

I'll consider Ferro, maybe even Forretress, makes sense. Thanks for the feedback.

You might want to try donphan > cloyster. Looking at your team now band terrakion is a nightmare and sub sd can beat your whole team by its self. With donphan you can hold terra off get up rocks and spin making it drastically better than cloyster on this team. Gl

Edit: Also air slash on togekiss is the best option so you can take advantage of serence grace at least. 60% flinches can be very helpful. I would suggest a timid nature also but thats up to preference.
