Hello all, first and foremost, thank you for checking out this thread. I've wanted to use a team that utilizes Crobat to it's fullest potential, especially with the buff to Defog. After trying out several Pokemon, I have finally come to an ideal team that serves Crobat best. I probably would not make any changes, unless some new threat comes out, so in a way, you could say that I am retiring this team, in pursuit of using other underrated Pokemon with interesting buffs, before the Pokebank opens. It's already got a record of 1880 on Pokemon Showdown and keeps going up, provided I can find the time to play.
Onto the team itself, it really has no purpose other than to win. I guess the main role is to allow Volcarona to set up and sweep, since Volcarona appreciates the Defog and Stealth Rock support, while Breloom and by extension Azumarill, with Tyranitar picking off Special Walls. But Volcarona sweeping is not usually the end outcome of the team. Depending on what Pokemon are taken out, I can clean up with Azumarill's Aqua Jet, Mamoswine's ferocity or even Breloom, simply due to how the team works well together.
Yes, each member is named after an original founding member of the Justice League, my all time favourite superhero cartoon (after Teen Titans, but there aren't enough founding members for that..). Hopefully, you can see why each Pokemon is named after a certain JL member.
Props for those that didn't JLP (Just Look Passed, heh) the intro and share my love of the Justice League. Onto the team:
J'onn J'onzz (Tyranitar) @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 176 HP / 252 Atk / 80 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
Sporting the 2nd highest strength out of all the members in the team and being able to change shape (Mega-evolve), it's clear that Tyranitar had to be J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter.
Role: Tyranitar's role on this team is simple, bluff the Mega-stone on the initial switch-in (it's the only Pokemon that can Mega-evolve) and score some quick KO's or heavy damage. It's other two roles is to check the Flying-types that run around the game, more specifically, Talonflame, who is a motherfrickin' sonuva pain in the ass to deal with, due to priority Brave Bird and take out the Specially Defensive Pokemon so that Volcarona can have a easier time sweeping. If the opponent has slower Pokemon on the team, Tyranitar can start to sweep with Choice Band Crunches.
Ability: Sand Stream while nerfed, is ever the useful ability, since it can put so many Pokemon in the KO range, as well as disrupt the opposing weather your opponent may have.
Item: Choice Band is to do as much damage as possible. I did consider swapping Pursuit for Dragon Dance and changing Tyranitar to Mega-Tyranitar, but the immediate power from Choice Band has yet to let me down.
EV's and Nature: The EV's and Nature mean that Tyranitar deals as much damage possible and outspeed's uninvested Base 70's, such as Skarmory. The rest were thrown into HP to be as bulky as possible with what was left.
Moveset: The moves are pretty simple, Pursuit is for trapping, Crunch and Stone Edge are the STAB moves of choice and Earthquake so that Aegislash can't get the attack drop. Also, because there is no other move for Tyranitar to use in that slot (to my mind, Aqua Tail and Superpower are previous generations).
Batman (Crobat) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 232 HP / 84 Atk / 192 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Taunt
- Defog
The masked crusader himself, Crobat occupies the space of the Batman, striking fear into the hearts of his enemies. While not the strongest member, he has a variety of gadgets at his disposal to deal with his enemies, making him a formidable foe.
Role: Crobat is an excellent Pokemon to be using and I do not see why more people aren't using him. The only viable users of Defog are Mandibuzz, which is suited to Stall teams and Crobat. The rest aren't worth using. Rapid Spin runs the risk of being outsped due to Sticky Web, as well as taking more damage from Spikes. Crobat's roles include disrupting the opposing lead if it is sent out first, clearing away Hazards and generally being annoying to deal with. It also deals very well with Fighting types who give Tyranitar a headache.
Ability: Infiltrator is an excellent ability and much better than Inner Focus. Crobat serves as this teams answer to Substitute, as well as Baton Pass, being able to Taunt and strike the foe behind the 'supposed' safety.
Item: Black Sludge is on Crobat, simply because Leftovers is on Volcarona. This team, if you decide to copy (shame on you all) was designed to be used in-game without too much trading. Also messes with Trick users, but you have to be careful not to mess up another one of your Pokemon.
EV's and Nature: The EV's and Nature mean that Crobat hits a Leftovers number, outspeeds +Max Speed Greninja and gives Brave Bird a bit more bite. Talonflame, Weavile, Jolten and Aerodactyl all beat Crobat one on one, so the only real benefit for Max Speed is tying with Mega Gengar, which in itself is shaky.
Moveset: Brave Bird serves as Crobat's attack in case of Taunt and deals good damage to unresisted Pokemon. Taunt shuts down opposing leads and walls, leaving them easy pickings for other Pokemon. Roost is obligatory recovery and Defog serves as the Rapid Spin of this team. Being unblockable means that stall does not have much of a chance against this team.
GreenLantern (Mamoswine) @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash
- Stealth Rock
Ok. The Mamoswine I use is shiny. Shiny Mamoswine is Green. Therefore, he is the Green Lantern.
But wait Evisector! Why isn't Breloom Green Lantern?
You want to try telling Wonder Woman she's fat?
Role: All joking aside, Mamoswine is an excellent Pokemon that I very rarely leave out on a team, simply due to the usefulness it brings to the table. Mamoswine serves as the teams primary way past Electric types (bar Rotom-W of course) and as the hazard setter, for when the time is right. Mamoswine is also handy against Dragon's, in case they predict an Azumarill switch in. Mamoswine is also useful for revenge killing, due to priority and a beast of an Attack stat.
Ability: Thick Fat is Mamoswine's best ability by far. Don't use the other two at all.
Item: Life Orb was added to give power to Mamoswine, while still retaining versatility and the opportunity to set up Rock's whenever appropriate.
EV's and Nature: The EV's and Nature are pretty straightforward, unlike the other Pokemon. Maximum Speed as possible to beat base 80's and Breloom and do as much damage as possible. The four Defence EV's are there because Mamoswine hits an odd number in HP, simply for Stealth Rock. When Download users come to Gen VI, switch those EV's into Special Defence.
Moveset: The attacks are pretty straightforward. Earthquake for a main STAB, Ice Shard to revenge kill, Icicle Crash when Ice Shard isn't enough and Stealth Rock for additional support in the team, since I can not find space for it.
Side note, doesn't Green Lantern conjure things out of thin air? Maybe Green Lantern is appropriate for Mamoswine after all.
Flash (Volcarona) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 232 HP / 252 Def / 24 Spd
Timid Nature
- Bug Buzz
- Fiery Dance
- Roost
- Quiver Dance
The Flash is my all time favorite hero, so Volcarona being a Special based Pokemon, gets the name (eh?). Volcarona can also speed himself up to outspeed anything, bar priority. Fastest man alive? Fastest. Bug. Alive.
Role: Volcarona is the teams only real answer to physical walls and boy, is it a good one. I deliberately made it bulky so that I could deal with physical attackers and set up much more easily, as well as abuse Flame Body, which I have done so against Scizor and Kangaskhan, multiple times. Volcarona is a good Pokemon and I would respect a decision to build a team around it. Not really much to say about Volcarona, it is just good at what it does.
Ability: Flame Body is useful on bulky Volcarona, since you can really take advantage of it and burn your would be checks or counters, rendering them ineffective at stopping Volcarona.
Item: Leftovers was added as this Volcarona is quite bulky, so the additional health helps while setting up. I did consider Chesto Berry and Rest, but I prefer the constant effect as opposed to the one time use.
EV's and Nature: EV's and Nature mean that Volcarona hits a Leftovers number and provide an odd number for Stealth Rock, maximum physical bulk and outspeed + max speed Base 130's.
Moveset: Moves are pretty simple for bulky Volcarona, Bug Buzz is the main STAB and gets through Substitute, so you can't stall me out, Fiery Dance to increase Special Attack once I have a couple of speed boosts, Roost to heal up damage I take and Quiver Dance, which is the best set up move (besides Shell Smash, which Volcarona does not get).
Wonder Woman (Trevenant) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Harvest
EVs: 232 HP / 24 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature
- Leech Seed
- Rest
- Will-o-Wisp
- Horn Leech
The Breloom is shiny, which is good since Wonder Woman is not green. Wonder Woman, or Princess Diana of Themyscira never goes down without a fight, which is what Breloom does, it annoys the hell out of the opponent by never dying and absorbing all the hits possible.
Role: Breloom is the best answer to bulky Water-types, who rely on burns to do what they do best, stall. Due to Poison Heal, she is the team's status absorber, the teams healer with Leech Seed and the teams number one answer to Rock-type Pokemon, since Mamoswine and Azumarill can get worn down quickly. Breloom also helps with dealing with bulky Water Pokemon, allowing Azumarill and Volcarona to run rings around the opponent.
Ability: If you're using Toxic Orb, Poison Heal obviously.
Item: I wanted guaranteed Poison, so I used Toxic Orb.
EV's and Nature: The EV's and Nature ensure that Breloom is as bulky as possible on the Special side, while also attaining a Poison Heal number. The Speed EV's allow me to outspeed base 70's such as Skarmory and put them to sleep before they can do any damage to me.
Moveset: Leech Seed and Protect ensure that Breloom never dies as well as guarantee the poison infliction. Leech Seed can also help out the team when switching around to more favorable match ups. Drain Punch is there in case Breloom gets Taunted and also helps it heal/gives me a good switch in to Rock Pokemon. Spore is the best move in the game and taking out one Pokemon simply due to sleep is amazing.
Side note, you may think it is a bit weird not running Substitute with Leech Seed, however with the recent buffs to Sound-based moves and Infiltrator, Substitute is not what it once was.
Superman(Azumarill) @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 164 HP / 252 Atk / 92 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Superpower
- Play Rough
The man of steel himself, Azumarill is the strongest physical attacker on the team, and with Aqua Jet, is faster than many Pokemon, qualities identical to Superman. In addition to all this likeness to Superman, he is blue to boot.
Role: Azumarill was blessed with the great Fairy-Type, making him the premium switch in to Dragons. Azumarill is the other revenge killer on this team, sporting Aqua Jet as opposed to Ice Shard. Azumarill also deals with Dragon type Pokemon easily and often enough baits in Water type Pokemon, which get hit hard by Play Rough.
Ability: Thick Fat and Sap Sipper are useless on Azumarill, always use Huge Power or look elsewhere for a Water Physical attacker.
Item: Choice Band is used to inflict as much damage as possible, crucial for revenge killing.
EV's and Nature: The EV's and Nature mean Azumarill inflicts as much damage as possible. The official page for Azumarill states 84 EV's in Speed to out pace Sylveon, I run 92 to out pace Tyranitar and Azumarill that abide by this. The rest are thrown into HP to be as bulky as possible.
Moveset: Aqua Jet is the primary revenge killing move. Waterfall is the reliable STAB, Play Rough the powerful one. Superpower hits Ferrothorn on the switch and deals with other common switch ins.
Main threats:
Mega Kangaskhan: This thing is stupid to face against, Choice Band and the Ability to switch moves + Power Up and have good bulk with few resistances mean I have to sacrifice a Pokemon or two to bring it down in most cases. Kinda hoping Kangaskhanite gets banned in the future so I don't have to deal with it.
Mega Lucario: If Volcarona goes down I can be in a bit of a bind. Azumarill Aqua Jet can take it down after a Close Combat drop though.
Mega Gengar: Shadow Tag is what makes this thing annoying, but residual damage and priority can wear it down, I just have to sacrifice a Pokemon or two.
Talonflame: Priority Brave Bird is annoying, but recoil/Stealth Rocks/Tyranitar can usually deal with it.
So basically, Mega Pokemon are a problem.
I've thoroughly enjoyed using this team, I find it very successful albeit a little hard to use straight away, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be winning a lot of games.
Until then, rate, use, enjoy, live life.
Do apologise to mods if the picture is too big, if it is, just say and I'll change/remove.
