The letter S in Irish

Honestly, I'm having a hard time trying to pronounce the letter S in Irish. I'm struggling at when I should pronounce it as an /s/ sound or an /sh/ sound. Because in the Irish word, "Tuircis" (Irish for Turkish), the S at the end is pronounced is Sh but in the word, "Téacs" (Irish for Text), S is pronounced as S. I don't see the rule since both those words end with an S. When to pronounce S as /s/ in Irish and when to pronounce it as /sh/?

Téacs seems to be a loan word from English text. Since texts is pronounced /tekst/ in British English, I assume that is why it's different there. I'm not incredibly inclined on Irish Orthography (I've tried learning it before), but generally loans will break all sorts of phonological rules no matter the language.
