THE LIL SMEXY BEASTS: An Underused Team

Hey yall, its Nate here. This is my favorite UU team, which I’ve used since forever and never drastically changed, so I’m posting it and hoping for some feedback.

I’ve used this team since before Platinum, and the new Platinum additions haven’t affected this team all that much. Its beast, but maybe *you* can help me improve it. Yeah, I’m talking in 1st person and breaking the fourth wall, but that’s beside the point. Without further ado, let’s introduce the players of THE LIL SMEXY BEASTS!

scyther.png

Scyther (Berserker) @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 112 HP/216 Atk/180 Spd
Jolly/Adamant

- Aerial Ace
With STAB, Technician, and a Band, Scyther’s Aerial Ace is a powerful attack to behold. It doesn’t even dent Steelix, but everything else will take a beating. Scyther is my favorite lead in UU especially before stealth rocks go up.
- Brick Break
Brick Break is useful for type coverage and breaking rare screens.
- U-turn
U-turn by itself is a great move, but on Scyther, it’s amazing. U-turn is useful for scouting and dealing damage in general, but Scyther’s high base speed even lets him revenge kill as well.
- Pursuit
More revenge killing and great against psychics.

Scyther‘s badass looks coupled with his berserker rage make him my favorite Pokemon in UU. He used to be Adamant for the extra damage, but after being swept by a NP Ninetales I made him Jolly.

blastoise.png

Blastoise (Hermit) @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP/114 Def/144 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)

- Rapid Spin
Because this is a balanced team, Rapid Spin is necessary for synergy and helps my team in general. Rapid Spin is also Scyther’s best friend.
- Surf
All bulky waters need to have surf. Surf is Blastoise’s primary attack.
- Ice Beam
Ice Beam for coverage and owning dragons.
- Roar
Roar is my Phazing move on this team and is there if I need it.

Blastoise was my very, very first ever Pokemon and holds a special place in my heart <3. He’s always useful and reliable.

altaria.png

Altaria (Crusader) @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 72 HP/252 Atk/184 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

- Dragon Dance
Dragon Dance and attempt a sweep. I also use Altaria as a counter of sort’s thanks to roost.
-Roost
Altaria needs roost to stall and live while it’s DDing.
- Dragon Claw
A nice STAB Dragon Claw is Altaria’s main attack when sweeping.
- Earthquake

Altaria is the sucky Salamence of UU. However, unlike Salamence, Altaria is puffy and fluffy! Because of Natural Cure, Altaria doesn’t mind status too much so I like to switch it into annoyers and DD up. I feel that there’s a more useful Pokemon out there, though.

muk.png

Muk (Pirate) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 252 HP/68 Atk/188 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

- Brick Break
Muk is my special wall, so all of his moves are for coverage.
- Ice Punch.
- Giga Drain
- Gunk Shot
I never really liked Muk before I used him, but his base-105 attack stat is amazing. Gunk Shot literally KILLS if you underestimate Muk. I’m serious- the damage is incredible. The 30% chance of poison hax adds to this greatness.

Muk is a special wall with nice attack. Sticky hold is also good for his special walling skills because he is immune to trick.

steelix.png

Steelix (Skyscraper) @ Leftovers
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 HP/120 Atk/136 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)

- Earthquake
EQ is Steelix’s primary attacking move, although I will first set up if possible.
- Stealth Rock
Stealth Rocks are always welcome, and Steelix is the perfect Pokemon to set them up.
- Stone Edge
Stone Edge lets Steelix wall and shoot down Flying type Pokemon
- Toxic
Great move for a wall as it combats Pokemon with recovery moves.

Steelix is THE physical wall in UU, and he’s GOOD at what he does.

hitmonlee.png

Hitmonlee (Black Belt) @ Life Orb
Ability: Limber
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spd/4 SDef
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

- Close Combat
Hitmonlee is a physical monster, and when he switches in, he WILL immediately threaten to annihilate anything weak to his attacks. Hitmonlee’s base 120 attack stat makes him a total beast.
- Stone Edge
Stone Edge destroys flying types like no other.
- Earthquake
- Blaze Kick
I opted for Blaze Kick instead of a priority move since Blaze Kick is the only fire move on my team. It greatly aids in Hitmonlee’s sweeping abilities.

Hitmonlee is my favorite UU fighting-type Pokemon with his insane attack and movepool; Hitmonlee is an *extremely* useful sweeper. Hitmonlee is powerful the way Infernape used correctly in OU is powerful. Limber is a nifty ability sometimes for getting in that free switch when predicting a t-wave.

Scyther: Set looks good, but considering that you will be switching out a lot i would recommend Life Orb over CHoice Band because if Rocks are up then there's no way you're going to be able to switch out at all.
Blastoise: I believe that for a phaser/spinner you need to but in more Defensive EVs. I mean, lets face it, Blastoise isnt actually the best Special Sweeper, so i would suggest maybe running 252 Hp/80 Def/157 SpDe (Bold Nature) so you can make Blastoise more of a tank as opposed to a not-so-durable wall.
Altaria: Ok. Altaria in my opinion is not a good Dragon Dancer because of her weak attack strength. I believe that a LO Flygon would help in this situation, but unfortunately, Flygon is BL :(. So on the Altaria set, you could focus on increasing Altaria's good durability and good amount of resistances (grass, water, fire, ground, etc) my maximizing HP and running 252 HP/Atk and 6 Spe. But thats jsut me-if the Speed Evs are really helping you, you should keep them. The only problem i have with that is that there arent really many pokemon in UU that you won't be outspeeding after a couple DDs, the sole reason i suggest removing Speed EVs. Again, thats your call.
Muk: REMOVE GIGA DRAIN!! 60 Base Power, no STAB, horrible SpA and only being good against stuff like Swampert makes it a horrible move on Muk. Since a lot of things will run away from Muk, you could make it a SubPuncher: Using the same EVs, but these moves; Focus Punch/Substitute/Ice Punch/Gunk Shot. This makes up for Brick Break's low base power, and helps Muk from being walled by Bliss (with EVs specified, Brick Break won't 2HKO if my calculations are correct). Otherwise, Muk is a cool Pokemon.
Steelix: Set looks good, i just think you might want Explosion over Toxic to get rid of big threats.
Hitmonlee: Is a "total beast." I just think you should run the same set but Scarfed, because Hitmonlee wont last long with all that LO damage racking up and being hit by faster pokemon. Limber also is quite a "nifty" ability.
Kudos on a great team. and also, good amount of resistances, and not too many huge errors in terms of multiple Team Members being weak to the same type.

Scyther: I would only give Scyther a Life Orb if I were planning on sweeping with him. I would also then give him Swords Dance. But the recoil from life orb + stealth rocks damage would kill him far to fast for my likings (lol 1 switch-in).
The best way to prevent Scyther from taking SR damage would be to not use him at all. That's why I have Blastoise.

Blastoise: I'll definitely put some thought into making Blastoise bulkier.

Altaria: In OU I'd replace Altaria with Salamence... I want to change Altaria somehow, moveset or something, but I'm not sure.

Muk: Blissey and Swampert aren't in UU.

Hitmonlee: I feel that Hitmonlee is the Infernape of UU. Hitmonlee needs the freedom to switch moves so he can sweep sweep sweep. Scarf Hitmonlee would be for OU revenge killing or something.
