The New Generation
Hello everyone and welcome to my RMT "The New Generation" a Balanced Offence team based around Mega-Houndoom. This is the first non-stall team that I've built in ORAS which has led to any real success. As mentioned I managed to peak at No.4 which was a massive milestone for me, not only was it my first time peaking top 5, but it was the highest peak I've ever reached playing on Showdown with my previous peak being 21. I hope you enjoy reading about how the team was made, and I appreciate everyone who does so. One last thing, S/O to my boy StarZabRighT for testing this team with me. Alrighty, here we go.

I laddered using the alt Fh27. The GXE is so poor because I didn't use a new alt. I used a testing one

So when I first built this team, I just wanted to use Houndoom because it's a pretty fun looking Mega. With good offensive typing and a good speed tier, seemed pretty nice.
229.png

Seeing that M-Doom's most common switchins are Keldeo, Azu and M-Altaria, Sylveon seemed like a nice partner. One of the few Pokemon in the rare group that can switch into Specs Keldeo. It also threatens M-Altaria and also doesn't let Azu come in for free.

The core was stomped by Banded Azu. Ferro provides a good switchin, and Spikes, which is very good because both Sylveon and M-Doom force a lot of switches, so the passive damage really racks up quickly.

Seeing that I had a hazard stacking core in mind, I wanted a Rapid Spinner as opposed to a Defogger so I could keep my Spikes around. Starmie was my choice because it brought speed, and also a nice way to break the classic Venu + Tran core which otherwise was a bit of an issue for the team so far.

A balance team without any Scarfers or speed control was going to be Lopunny food. I was also was pretty weak to Talonflame and DD Zard-X. Defensive Landorus-T not only gave a way to deal with those threats, but also a Rocks user, which i didn't have yet because I was using Spikes Ferro.

I tried so many things in the last slot, but after being destroyed by Zard-Y, as well as having problems with Banded Scizor and not being great vs Landorus-I (What is) I decided that SpDef Talon would actually fit nicely, so here it is.

------
Mega-Houndoom is a savagely underrated Mega, with amazing offensive typing resisted by very few Pokemon in OU and a speed tier which breaks the 108-111 range. I fully believe if Doom possessed a worthwhile ability in Mega forme people would be singing a different tune.
Doom utilises 2 incredibly abusable and powerful STABs in Dark Pulse and Fire Blast, and a fantastic boosting move in Nasty Plot. This moveset along with Taunt not only makes M-Houndoom a powerful Stallbreaker but also pretty good at smashing through its checks. After 1 Nasty Plot Houndoom 2HKOes Leftovers Keldeo, and max HP M-Altaria. After 2, Houndoom 2HKOes Chansey.
Defensively however, Houndoom leaves much to be desired. Weakness to Fighting, Ground, Water and Rock types really bring Doom's value down. Fighting, Ground and Water are probably the most common offensive types in the game, maybe along with Fairy, which Houndoom isn't great vs either. It isn't all bad for Houndoom though (thankfully). With nice resistances to the likes of Ghost, Fire, Ice and Dark along with a few others means you can sometimes afford to switch it in on weakened attacks, not to mention its immunity to Psychic attacks.
EVs allow Doom to live Banded Talonflame's Brave Bird, and also gives you 301 HP, meaning it's a little easier to beat Seismic Toss Pokemon, mainly Chansey.
In essence Mega-Houndoom is a fantastic offensive Mega Pokemon, with the ability to stallbreak with Taunt, and the ability to break offense with powerful STABs and access to Nasty Plot. However it lacks defensively with somewhat poor typing, as well as a weakness to common priority like Aqua Jet and Mach Punch.

------
Pure Fairy typing is so good. When looking through potential partners for Doom I didn't expect to be using Sylveon, but in reality they compliment each other very well. Houndoom's been caught off guard by random Thunder Wave? Sylveon has Heal Bell. Houndoom's getting sick of switching into rocks? Sylveon can pass you a wish. Keldeo has a Sub up? Enter Hyper Voice, no more Keldeo Problem. Altaria keeps switching into Houndoom? Pop that Altaria with a nice crisp Hyper Voice.
Sylveon is the glue of this squad. Wish passing to a team that, by and large, has no access to recovery, as well as healing off any status that may come along. Also don't forget, even with no investment, Sylveon's STAB comes Pixilate boosted, and still hits relatively hard.
Whilst typing wise Houndoom and Sylveon might not have the best synergy, Sylveon still beats the things that Houndoom needs it to, the SpDef EVs are made so that Sylveon can switch into Specs Keldeo's Hydro Pump after Rocks. The rest was dumped in Defence to better handle the likes of Azumarill and Altaria as well as just giving slightly better overall bulk.

------
I didn't really have a switchin for Fairy types, specifically Azumarill and Gardevoir. I also wanted to build a team that could hazard stack. Ferrothorn did both, and so here it is.
Everything about Ferrothorn fit nicely with this core, even down to the moves. Gyro Ball did damage to Gardevoir as well as Lati@s to name a couple targets. Power Whip means Keldeo can't set up on Ferro, same going for TG Manaphy. With Ferrothorn being my main switchin to Rotom-W early in the game, Power Whip gave me a nice way to hit that too. Leech Seed is a really nice move especially for this team as only Talonflame has reliable recovery. Leech Seed gives me more opportunities to bring my members in, and Spikes is there to pressure mons that switch around, hazard stacking really is effective vs every playstyle.

- Rapid Spin
------
Starmie really is the best spinner in OU. A fantastic speed tier, Powerful STABs, and a good ability. Starmie was chosen because not only was I looking for a Spinner, but I also needed something to pressure the Venu Tran Core, because Sylveon loses to both, as does Ferrothorn, and Houndoom needs quite a few boosts before it's doing anything.
Yet again, Starmie brings that speed tier that so many Pokemon wish they had, giving it great utility, it can clean up late game with its good coverage, its typing allows it to switch into a multitude of OU attackers which, by and large, the team struggles with, such as Keldeo and Heatran.
Analytic gives Starmie the offensive presence that it otherwise just doesn't have, and along with the Spikes and Stealth Rocks, it's often dangerous for anything to switch in, in fear of being 2HKOesd when factoring in the Analytic boost.
Starmie in general just gives the team a nice offensive presence and speed tier that Sylveon and Ferrothorn don't offer, as well as spinning for Talon and Doom.

It feels like it was only 5 minutes ago, the Lando-T hype was real. Everyone and their mother had a Landorus-Therian somewhere on their team. Whilst some people may have joined the newly S-Ranked Landorus-I train, I'm happy to say I'm sticking with the Therian forme, and it's working out great.
Landorus literally checks everything I need it to, Lopunny, DD Zard-X, Excadrill, Talonflame, well... birds in general to be honest, Lando deals with them all with great natural bulk and Intimidate.
Standard moveset EdgeQuake with U-Turn for momentum. The one difference however comes in the IVs, with only 30 in Speed. This may seem arbitrary yes, but I've found it to be incredibly useful. With nothing else on this team being particularly interested in switching into opposing Landorus-T, 30 Speed IVs means you'll always UNDERspeed them, getting a slow U-Turn off and being able to react accordingly.
Other than that, everything about this Landorus is standard and so theres not a whole lot to explain. In short, fat rocks user, good ability, good typing, EdgeQuake for Coverage, U-Turn for momentum. Especially with Wish passing and Leech Seed being a thing in this team, Landorus can be surprisingly tough to take down.

Well... I guess now that i think about it, I guess I rounded the team out with a Physical and Special wall (if you can call SpDef Talonflame a wall). SpDef Talonflame is the last member of the squad and the last member I added to the team after having no real answer to Zard-Y and I didnt really have a singular answer for things like Bisharp, Gengar, and Scizor.
Talon also gives a nice priority user which the team otherwise doesn't have, I guess it'd be a bit easier to clean up with Talon around, who knows. Talonflame is also the only member of the team with reliable recovery, Gale Wings priority Roost is not only nice in utility, its absolutely necessary as Talon takes a ridiculous amount from Stealth Rocks, and they can't always be removed before it's called to come in.
Again, pretty standard set, with 8 more Speed EVs to creep other SpDef Talon users, or other things trying to creep regular SpDef Talon. In essence Talon spreads status, making it easier for the team to stomach physical attackers, Talon is also a nice obligatory Fairy switchin and in general does its job nicely, even with its deathly Stealth Rock issue.

Your team is shit i bet you photo shopped that rank. Jk. But in all honesty its a hell of a team nice work and if i had to make one recommendation it would be to change out sylveon for unware clefable because it helps u take on bd azu to much better and helps with threatening set up sweepers in genaral. Also might wanna add some replays fam. :)

Hey my name is Admin Umbra, we had that absolutely amazing battle earlier today were you were you used this team and I used a variant of it. I wanted to say thanks for an awesome battle below is the replay, and importable of my changes, and link to my youtube channel where I posted my commentary:

Hey man, awesome team! The only thing that I think I can suggest is to run Recover>Ice Beam on Starmie. This change should allow you more staying power and fit better with the Bulky-stallish nature of the team. Ice Beam doesn't really hit much that I can tell, other than Altaria, Dragonite, Garchomp, and the rare Sceptile-Mega. Hydro Pump hits any targets you need to kill anyway, such as Landorus-I and Landorus-T, and Psyshock hits a ton of threats otherwise, such as Venusaur and Chesnaught (you 2hko it with Stealth Rocks up anyway, even without taking into account Analytic. With Analytic you 2HKO anyway without hazards). You also slightly miss out on revenge killing things like Latios, however you have Ferrothorn, Sylveon, and if worse comes to worst Talonflame can tank a Life Orb Draco Meteor and Roost off of the damage. Again, really solid team! I wish you the best of luck in the future.

I see the changes u made in your team and overall previous ratings have covered everything i would have said. But i sense a strong weakness to Mega Manetric to your team where it can hit every single one of your mons with some DAMAGE. But if lando is inside and at full health. It can live an hp ice without HAX. To add some innovation to your team i recommend Yache berry > Leftovers on lando.

hi,
played around for about a good hour with your team went 7-5 (more or less), however, I can't seem to make this team work for me. I feel it doesn't really have a win condition besides mega houndoom.
Therefore, I would suggest adding some sort of Wallbreaker to the team. I've tried several options, but I can't seem to find the right pokemon.
What are you ideas on that matter?

ciao!

i like the team alot, i utilized houndoom for reqs on aegi myselt. i agree with above... maybe a sd talon flame would remedy the problem

Hey bro! Cool team you got here. However, i have a suggestion that might help you with it. Oh and it was suggested earlier too lol. But, i really agree with changing talon to a bulk up variant. You can forego either w-o-w or taunt. I would myself go with w-o-w as you currently look to be a bit weak to Bisharp, since you don't want Houndoom to switch directly into its attacks, especially if rocks are up. BU still gives you a solid win condition against both offense and stall and you can handle Heatran / status easily with recover starmie and heal bell sylveon. You can also use Swords Dance instead of Bulk Up for faster set up.
tl dr: Bulk Up / Swords Dance > Taunt on Talonflame

I saw SD, but I was thinking of a more offensive SD set, which left me quite weak to Gengar and Zard Y. Bulk Up on the other hand, sounds like a great idea. I forsee a little more trouble dealing with Unaware Clefable, but, the trade off being another win con, i think its well worth it, because I can always just weaken Clef with Doom or even Sylveon. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll sure sure to try it out :)
Oh i mean you can try SD on the specially defensive set. It's standard. Though yeah i too like bulk up much more.

Hey man this is a really solid team but I have one suggestion to make your team betterr. Mega Manectric looks like it destroys your team. Your only check is Sylveon and even that gets worn down due to Rocks and Volt Switching. The roles of a bulky physical wall, bird check, and stealth rocker are all things that SpDef Hippowdon does nicely. The moves of Stone Edge, Whirlwind, and Toxic are all u to you and what you feel is best for your team.

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
EVs: 248 HP / 144 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Earthquake

Hey man i build a very similar team with Houndoum Mega and tbh is a lot of fun, the only suggestion is u already have Stallbreaker Talon and Houndoum isnt beating Chansey with taunt so i u could replace Will-o-Wisp/ Sucker Punch > Taunt on Mega Houndoom, i explain on detail every move.
If u use Wow u hit tyranitar on switch ins which is the most common switch in to Mega doom or Tornadus-T which is pretty common now on days even Bisharp if ur weak or in range of sucker punch. And in the other hand Sucker Punch with Naive nature no atack investment come so handy in some cases, like to revenge Faster mons like Alakazam of starmie if u dont wanna risk speed ties etc. Also u can make bulky starmie cuz seem u running offensive which leave u a bit weak to keldeo here is the set
Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 12 Def / 12 SpD / 236 Spe
Timid Nature

- Psyshock
- Recover
- Rapid Spin
Hope i help u and gl

Hey, thanks for reading over my RMT, I really appreciate it. Anyways, about your suggestions. I originally had the Houndoom spread with WoW over Taunt, but here's the thing. Talonflame does't break stall by itself, it's weak to members such as Gothitelle and CM Mega-Sableye. I brought Houndoom is as a nice secondary Stallbreaker and a Dark type. Also, you say Doom doesn't beat Chansey, yet I have beaten Chansey With Doom many times. If they come in, and you're already at +2, it takes you 3 turns to KO them, 1 more boost, and 2 attacks, Chansey takes 4 turns to KO with Seismic Toss, and along with Wish support and a fast spinner, I can get my Houndoom in at full if I really need to. Plus with the hazards, Chansey rarely comes in at full and so I can often KO it at just +2, provided it has taken enough prior damage. Taunt also has great utility in stopping set up mons like DD Zard X that could stomach my hits and set up in my face.

As for your suggestion about Starmie, I honestly go back and forth between the two. I now mostly use 2 attacks, Recover, or even HP Fire for Ferrothorn, but still LO Analytic, The defensive set is just a bit too passive, plus I already have Sylve as a dedicated Keldeo switchin. I don't like watching my hazard removal getting trapped by a Gothitelle, or allowing things a free switch. Offensive Starmie gives my team a nice offensive presence along with the hazard control, something I don't think I can get from the defensive variant.

hey Doom doesnt beat Mega Sableye cuz u cant taunt him and Gothitelle the CM set also u cant beat him, Talon doesnt beat those set either unless u put SD over Wow but for u team i didnt recommend that, and last there is better ways to beat chansey than houndoom that's why i told u that, chansey only need 3 seismic toss to beat u. But that's my rate man ! gl
