The NU of Pokemon (Ironic, isn't it?)

Hello all! This is my first ever NU RMT. Over the course of the past week, I have been testing this team, and I finally think it is good to go. However, due to being a novice NU player, it most likely still does have some notable flaws that I just don't see. With that being said, that is why I have come to you, oh fellow smogonites. With your help, this team can truly shine. Without further adieu, here is my team! (Sorry it won't contain any team building section as of yet).

The NU of Pokemon

303Mawile.png

Lady Big Mouth the Mawile @ Leftovers
Trait: IntimidateEVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Nature: Impish
Moves:
Stealth Rock
Toxic
Pain Split
Seismic Toss

Regirock used to occupy this girl's slot. However, I found myself, even with Regirock, that Dragon types really gave my team trouble, so here she is. Mawile is, in my opinion, the best Physical Dragon type resist in this game due to Intimidate, which mitigates the first boost your opponent gains. Most don't bother to get up to +6, so this makes them essentially start off without an attack boost. Intimidate also helps against Zangoose, a threat every team should prepare for, as well as Sawk, who after an Intimidate drop doesn't even OHKO Mawile a majority of the time! Just a fun fact, but +1 252 Atk Zangoose Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mawile only has a 68.75% chance to OHKO! Stealth Rock is pretty staple, even in NU. It prevents the likes of Charizard and Articuno from messing with me. Toxic really cripples Alomomola, who can pretty much wall me easily. Pain Split is her only form of recovery (albeit not reliable) outside of Leftovers. Seismic Toss is generally the go-to damaging move for Mawile, as it has consistency. However, I could use Iron Head to hurt Ghost types. EVs are fairly simple. Maximize HP and Def so it can take hits better while the remaining EVs go into SpD. If I go with Iron Head, I might transfer the 4 EVs from SpD to Atk, since 4 SpD doesn't do anything anyway. I could also use 4 Spe EVs.

Moo Cow the Miltank @ Leftovers
Trait: Sap Sipper
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Atk
Nature: Careful
Moves:Heal Bell
Milk Drink
Curse
Body Slam

This Moo Cow is one hell of a support Pokemon. With great Defenses and a wide array of Support moves, she was the perfect match for my team, and is for almost any team out there. Heal Bell really helps overall with status. Milk Drink is for reliable recovery. After some advice from PS members, I decided to go with the Curse set with Scrappy over Sap Sipper, as a change I will mention later on helps against Jumpluff, who was mentioned before in this description. Curse is the crux of this set, allowing her to increase her already great Defense and good Atk to new heights. After a few Curse boosts, not even the most powerful Physical Sweepers of the tier will be able to KO me. Body Slam goes great with Curse, as the 30% paralysis chance helps cripple the fast sweepers of the tier while allowing it to mitigate the speed drop from Curse somewhat. With Scrappy, I can hit Ghosts who think they wall me. After a few Curses, not even Sawk will be able to KO Miltank with Close Combat, as she can just shrug it off with Milk Drink. For example, with 3 Curse uses, Choice Scarf Sawk only 3HKOes her with Close Combat, while she 2HKOes him with Body Slam, proving the might of the Moo Cow Pokemon.

GameFreak FAIL the Rotom @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate (reason for name)
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 SpD
Nature: Timid
Moves:
Volt Switch
Thunderbolt
Air Slash
Trick

I've noticed that I have trouble against Swift Swim and Shell Smash abusers like Gorebyss, Huntail and Carracosta, so Rotom-Fan is here to deal with them, as they tear my team apart if given the chance to set up. He outspeeds and OHKOes them with Thunderbolt. It also hurts flying types that can have their way with my team if Mawile is weakened or gone, most importantly Braviary. Volt Switch is the move I'll be spamming the most in a match, however. It allows me to steal momentum away from my opponent, scout the switch-in, and bring in my Pokemon safely. Air Slash is secondary STAB, allowing him the ability to hurt Grass types that plague the tier, 1 to 2HKOing them. Trick allows me to cripple Pokemon such as Golem, Lickilicky, Curse Miltank, etc. EVs allow him to outpace many Pokemon other than the aforementioned Swift Swim and Shell Smash abuser, like Sawk, Gardevoir, etc. He sits at a very important speed tier, so Timid is the nature of choice, as without it, the aforementioned Sawk and Gardevoir outspeed me and KO.

Stinky the Skuntank @ Black Sludge/Dread Plate
Trait: Aftermath
EVs: 252 Atk / 220 SpD / 36 Spe
Nature: Adamant
Moves:
Sucker Punch
Pursuit
Crunch
Taunt

Meet the baddest skunk around these parts. He is a reliable way of disposing of those nasty Psychic types like Gardevoir and Kadabra as well as Ghosts like Golurk and Haunter. Sucker Punch/Pursuit and Crunch really keep the opponent's ghost and psychic types guessing. If they try to Attack, Sucker Punch will hit them first, most likely KOing them outright. If they try to run away, Pursuit will hit them on the switch, again likely KOing them outright. If I feel that they will stay in and use a boosting move, which is what they are going to do most of the time, I can just Crunch them. There are many possibilities for Skuntank. He can even use Taunt to stop them from setting up and Pursuit them on the predicted switch. The item choice is kind of hard for me. If I don't carry Dread Plate, Musharna fails to be 2HKOed, but without Black Sludge, I lose out on valuable recovery. Any help on the item?

Holy Spirit the Natu @ Eviolite
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Nature: Impish
Moves:
Reflect
Light Screen
Roost
U-Turn

Since Haunter was just randomly thrown in, I replaced him with this little bird, and boy what an improvement she turned out to be. Light Screen and Reflect are the crux of this set, allowing my sweepers some extra protection from the powerful attackers in the NU tier. One use of Reflect, and a prompt U-Turn out allows Miltank to arrive on the field unscathed, and prevents the OHKO from Sawk's Close Combat right away. After that, Miltank is free to set up Curses and potentially force Sawk out. Light Screen gives Exeggutor the buffer it needs to not be totally flattened by special attacks. After a Light Screen, Charizard's Fire Blast fails to OHKO me while I outspeed it in the sun and 2HKO it if it switches in on me. Roost keeps Natu alive so it can continue to support my teammates with the buffer they can use. U-Turn allows me to maintain momentum. I can come in on a target such as Sawk, tank its Close Combat, and U-Turn out to scout for the switch in and switch in my own Pokemon that can best handle the Pokemon. The 248 HP EVs allows it to switch into SR 5 times before fainting. Max Def allows it to take physical hits better while the remaining 8 EVs are allocated to SpD. He is only OHKOed by Choice Band Sawk's Stone Edge 6.25% of the time while avoiding the OHKO against Choice Scarf Sawk's Stone Edge. Here's the calc: 252 Atk Choice Band Sawk Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Natu: 242-286 (85.51 - 101.06%) -- 6.25% chance to OHKO. You see, Natu is quite bulky with her Eviolite.

Coco the Exeggutor @ Heat Rock
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 HP / 252 Spe
Nature: Bold
Moves:
Hidden Power Fire
Solarbeam
Psychic
Sunny Day

Meet the star sweeper of my team, Coco the Exeggutor. He is a good Sunny Day sweeper thanks to his ability Chlorophyll and his good coverage. After a speed boost by the Sun, he outspeeds Scarfed Base 85s such as Sawk, and 86 Base Speed Scarf Rotom-Fan, OHKOing the former with Psychic if it doesn't have Sturdy (which will most likely be negated due to SR) and the latter is 2HKOed (guaranteed if it switches in on me. Solarbeam is a general strong attack that dents anything that does not resist it. Psychic helps with the dual types that are resistant to Solarbeam, such as Vileplume, Garbodor, Swalot, etc. Hidden Power Fire hits the grass types such as Bellossom, Jumpluff, Shiftry, etc, who take neutral damage/are immune from Psychic and Solar Beam. Sunny Day is of course the crux of this set, allowing me to double my speed and be a threatening sweeper. In just a few moves, it already has coverage for the majority of threats, if not all. Coming from a base 125 Special Attack, he is gonna hurt. Heat Rock is the item of choice, as it allows me to sweep for 8 turns instead of 5, which could turn the tide of a match. EVs are self explanitory, so I needn't go into them. I chose Timid over Modest as outspeeding Rotom-S is of upmost importance. I used to have the SubSeed set instead of the Sunny Day Sweeper, but after more testing, I found out that Sunny Day is more of an immediate threat, and that the SubSeed set lacked coverage and power. This walking palm tree has granted me so many wins it is crazy!

Closing
Thanks for reading my RMT. I took quite a while making this team and testing it, so I greatly appreciate all and any help you guys can give me. Happy rating!

nothing appreciates switching into water-type pokemon; miltank is usually 2HKO'd after stealth rock, and altaria is very susceptible to ice beam. so basically, shell smash sweepers and swift swim pokemon under rain will cause a whole lot of trouble, and all you will have left to handle them is skuntank's shaky priority. even just non-boosting water-types like samurott can be of some annoyance. in addition, you have no good way to handle braviary, which can threaten you with any one of its sets with the help of defiant to get past mawile.

it's really difficult to have one single fix to handle almost all the water-types in the tier, so there's two things i'm proposing. the first one is life orb gardevoir over haunter, which does several things for you. with trace, gardevoir can copy swift swim and revenge kill ludicolo and certain other pokemon that plague your team in the rain. with both gardevoir and skuntank, you should have a slightly easier time revenge killing these threats. additionally, gardevoir has access to destiny bond, making it an effective lure to KO skuntank and clear the way for your exeggutor.

the second part of this change is to replace altaria with choice scarf rotom-s. you need something fast enough for +2 gorebyss or carracosta, which rotom-s outspeeds and OHKOs. additionally, rotom-s is an ideal way to threaten out flying-types, that would otherwise give your team a hard time if mawile is weakened. this is an important measure against braviary especially since mawile will only activate braviary's defiant ability and will therefore fail to stop it.

lastly, i would try out a curse set on miltank. basically, use curse and body slam over thunder wave and seismic toss. miltank will still provide support for your team with heal bell, but this set also gives some way to set up in the face of many defensive pokemon that would otherwise put a stop to miltank and other members of your team. your team lacks some sort of setup to help you achieve a good win condition, so having this set can help accomplish this in some scenarios.

Thank you for taking your time to rate my team. I will test out all your changes, especially the Haunter to Gardevoir change, since Haunter hasn't really been performing to my tastes anyway. Curse seems like a good idea on Miltank, so I will change that immediately. The only thing I am not too pleased of doing is losing a Dragon type, but I guess I can still try out Rotom-S. What ability for Miltank?

I have tested out your changes, and for the most part, they are working really well! The only Pokemon that I have not found useful is Gardevoir. I found that Rotom-F is able to handle all of the bulky waters just fine (Walrein isn't too common from my experiences). I will probably use some sort of Rapid Spinner like Armaldo in the place of Haunter.

Keep the suggestions coming guys! :)

EDIT: Here's a battle with the suggested changes by Ilium, but I replaced Haunter with Armaldo instead.

I'm not sure why you are using Natu instead of Gardevoir. Natu may deal with the Spikers/Toxic Spikers of the tier but it is helpless against the Stealth Rock users on every good team. I would like to know why Gardevoir hasn't been working, since I do not see how it wouldn't help against weather. DBond is so useful as well for handling opposing Skuntank so that you can sweep with Exeggutor. Trace lets you handle opposing Swift Swimmers (most of whom Rotom-S cannot outspeed in the Rain) as well as Flash Fire pokes (you have nothing else to reliably switch into Fire attacks).

I don't understand why you would choose those particular replays to demonstrate your team because your opponent's were mediocre at best (I threw up a little seeing an offensive Audino) and both sides made a few misplays (switching Haunter in on a MB Sawk locked into EQ?) and questionable choices (non Custap/Leftovers Gigalith?). What I'm getting at is that you may want to face higher level opposition before you judge ium's rate. I actually have very little to add to his rate, though I want to clarify that you do have Timid as Exeggutor's nature?

My only slight change would be to switch Crunch on Skuntank for Poison Jab to deter Fighting-types from switching in fearlessly, especially Sawk. Remember, no opponent would allow Miltank to set up enough to be able to tank a Banded Sawk's Close Combat in the first place. You rely solely on Exeggutor right now to tank Sawk's hits, which also helps make Gardevoir look more appealing.

There are other things I might be able to suggest, but I wish to hear your response to this first. Good luck with your team!

Yes, I do have Timid as Exeggutor's nature. Also, I just use the Look for the battle button. I don't know any high level NU players. Besides, if I were to face them, I'd most definitely lose. I will test out Gardevoir again, but I don't think it is helping at all tbh.
