The Potential of Spiritomb

Ok, so i'm a noob when it comes to all this competitive poke stuff, although i've been getting alot of help when it comes to breeding and learning how to battle, but i still have alot to learn. In any case here is my question...

this is my Spiritomb

Spiritomb @ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
IVs:20HP/10Atk/28Def/31Sp.Atk/31Sp.Def/9Spd
Move set:
Hypnosis
Nasty Plot
Hidden Power (Ice 61)/Dark Pulse
Pain Split

I'm currently EV training it, but my question is...Should I use HP Ice or use Dark Pulse? Also, would it be a good poke to lead with? And lastly, If anyone can think of a better move set, i'm currently taking suggestions, or any other tips(like EV training spots(trainers and wild poke) you can give me.Thanks alot.

I like this set for Spiritomb:

Spiritomb @ Leftovers

~ Sucker Punch
~ Pursuit
~ Pain Split
~ Will-o-wisp

This is meant to be a counter to any special attacker weak to Dark (Gengar, Alakazam, Azelf and Starmie, basically). For the EVs, give enough Special Defense so that you can switch into their strongest attack for less than 50% damage, and enough Attack so that Sucker Punch OHKOes them.

Well, this is a suggestion... you are free not to use it.

Dark Pulse, Spiritomb needs the extra power it can get and seeing it gets STAB on Dark Pulse. 120 power attack is going to be doing way more in the long term than HP Ice with 61 power. Sure you'll maybe OHKO most of the Dragons but thats all you'll be able to do pretty much.

I had a Spiritomb set almost similar to that, only I substituted Pursuit for protect. Protect allows leftovers recover and stalling (considering pressure from Spiritomb). Then right after Protect, I can Sucker Punch again. The result? I get two free turns first, and the opponent takes two turns of burn damage.

No. 220*4 = 880.

I've kept this topic open because enough people started posting sets for it to count as a pseudo-discussion. In the future avoid making topics like these please.

880. Each two stages up is double the original stat.
1CM-330
2-440
3-550
4-660
5-770
6-880

Im playing around with a CM spitiromb, it works well

Spiritomb@Leftovers
Bold
252 HP, 252 Def, 6 Special Def
-Calm Mind/Nasty Plot
-Pain Split
-Dark Pulse
-Hypnosis
Hypnosis first, calm mind as much as you can, and attack.
Not the greatest, but I like it
Another Option I am looking at is a more balanced EV spread, Hypnosis, Scheme Once, Attack, and Pain Split as needed. This wont sweep teams, but could get you a good start going by softening up some things.

Yeah, thats what i'm currently running with my spiritomb, but i can't decide on CM or NP. I loke CM cause it ups Sp.Atk and Sp.Def, but NP ups Sp.Atk much faster IMO.

I think the set X-Act posted could be very effective as a starter. Threatens Weavile with a burn and slaps Gengar around with Pursuit. He can also survive a Draco Meteor from Salamence, so you can take the hit and Pain Split off the damage. Leaves them both with around 170 HP not including Leftovers and you just stripped off 25% of Draco Meteor's PP. Then switch to a Steel or anything with a half decent Special Defense stat to easily take the weakened hit.

I did some calculations for it awhile ago.

220 Attack Spiritomb (0 EVs) vs. minimum HP Azelf.

Pursuit (without a switch) 38 - 45%
Sucker Punch/Pursuit (when switching) 75 - 88%

Spiritomb needs around 250 Attack for a possible OHKO with Sucker Punch/Pursuit, and just over 290 for guaranteed OHKO.
