The Power of the Mind- A Gen 6 Psychic Mono team

I know that mono teams aren't all that common in RMT threads, but I have been working with this team for a while, and wanna see what changes the community here at Smogon can suggest to help improve the team.

Team Tier: X/Y OU Monotype
Type: Psychic

Metagross @ Life Orb
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Ice Punch
- Thunder Punch
- Bullet Punch

Metagross now uses a Life Orb to maximize damage. The EV's are meant to allow it to survive as long as possible while causing as much damage as possible. 252 HP allow some longevity, and 252 Attack allows it to cause maximum damage. The 4SDef EV's help with it's mediocre Special Defense Stat. Adamant nature increases it's damage output even more. Clear Body prevents it from being crippled by Intimidate switch-ins. As for the movesets, Meteor Mash gets STAB and has a chance of increasing attack by one stage. Bullet Punch gets priority, STAB, and is great for revenge killing. ThunderPunch/IcePunch form the famous "BoltBeam" combo, and are there for coverage.

Victini @ Choice Band
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- V-create
- U-turn
- Bolt Strike
- Brick Break

I've chosen the Choice Band Victini set for it's ability to cause massive damage. Choice Band is the main item here, allowing it to hit hard. EV's are meant to increase Speed and Attack stats, with Jolly nature helping the Speed stat even more, as the Attack stat is already boosted to ridiculous with Choice Band. V-Create is the STAB move of choice, and smacks stuff hard. U-Turn is useful for scouting and getting out of the way of Dark and Ghost types. Bolt Strike doesn't hit as hard as V-Create, but is useful for coverage. The last move is Brick Break, which can be used to ruin Screens support.

Meloetta @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 108 HP / 200 SpA / 200 SDef
Modest Nature
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Calm Mind
- Dazzling Gleam

Meloetta is now a special tank. It has Leftovers to increase it's longevity. EV's are meant to increase tanking capability. Modest nature boosts the Special Attack stat, increasing damage output. Psychic is the main STAB move. Shadow Ball is for coverage against Ghosts, who can't harm it with their STAB moves. Dazzling Gleam can handle Dark, Fighting, and Dragon Pokémon.

Latios @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Shadow Ball

Latios is a hard-hitting revenge killer. It holds Choice Scarf to increase it's already decent speed, which allows it to fulfill its revenge-killing role. EV's focus on maximizing speed, as does nature. (NOTE: Am debating using Modest Nature instead) Psyshock hits Special Walls like Blissey hard. Draco Meteor is STAB and causes massive damage, at the cost of losing Special Attack. Hidden Power [Fire] is for Steel-types that resist main STABs. Shadow Ball is for revenge killing Ghosts if Meloetta happens to go down.

Medicham @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Drain Punch
- Fake Out
- Psycho Cut

Medicham is my Mega of choice. This set is designed as a Sweeper set. The idea is to Mega Evolve ASAP, and then hit hard. Bullet Punch gets priority and hits opposing Fairies hard. Drain Punch allows it to recover HP and stay in longer. Fake Out is obvious for a free flinch. Psycho Cut is my other STAB of choice with its high crit-hit rate.

Slowbro Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Slack Off
- Scald
- Psychic

Slowbro has replaced Mew as the Physical sponge on the team. EV's are focused on defensive bulk, and Bold nature increases Defense even more. Toxic cripples most walls, bar Steel and Poison. Slack Off is for HP recovery. Scald can spread burns to the few walls that are immune to Toxic. Psychic prevents walling from Water-types. Regenerator and Leftovers increase healing potential even more.

Just a question... Where is your lead? Also your team is very special based....
+2 252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Sneak vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Metagross: 254-302 (69.7 - 82.9) Guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Victini: 320-378 (93.8 - 110.8%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Sacred Sword vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Meloetta: 297-350 (87 - 102.6%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Sneak vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Reuniclus: 276-326 (65 - 76.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Sneak vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Medicham: 366-432 (139.6 - 164.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Sneak vs. 252 HP / 20 Def Mew: 314-372 (77.7 - 92%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
In other words, a +4 Aegislash will pretty much sweep your team undisturbed.... The only way to beat it is after sacrificing a Pokemon, sent out Mew and hope Will-O-Wisp hits. Oops never mind, +4 Shadow Sneak OHKOs Mew. You could also use Medichams Priority to get off some damage, or Shadow Ball with Meloetta while it's in Blade Form.
+4 252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Sneak vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Reuniclus: 414-488 (97.6 - 115%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
Then Recover stall with Reuniclus until Aegislash burns. I know this is very situational but any Physical Ghost Sweepers knock your team out. Sucker Punch also hurts your team. I know this is hard to correct for psychic types, but Shadow Sneak
completely wrecks your team.
Some other good Psychic types you should consider: Alakazam, Azelf, Cresselia, Espeon, Gardevoir, Sigilyph, Malamar, and definitely consider Jirachi.

Maybe consider swapping Mew for Slowbro for something to eat physical attack and consider adding trick room somewhere (maybe remove the Meloetta scarf to make more advantage from trick room if you go that way). Bronzong is also something to consider since it also can take physical hits well.

Hello! I´m here to rate your team, hope you find this usefull.
I´ve been using psychic types for quite a long time and i also use a pseudo monotype in OU, so i think i can help you a little...
Psychic types have an amazing variety and you can use them in many many different forms.
Actually there are very common threats that make other monotype teams very powerfull, like Bisharp, Greninja, Aegislash, Pinsir, etc. who hit psychic types for super effective damage most of time.
Your best answer to the allways common ghost types is Meloetta, an amazing pokémon that i allways use, but it has not enough power to be a really good scarfer, so I think you could use better another set, like Calm Mind or Assault Vest (the one i use, both 3hkoed by specs latios´s draco meteor (if boosted when calm mind) but it stands more than that because of the special attack drop).
I recommend you a Calm Mind set, so you are able to KO Aegis, Trevenant and other weak to ghost using Shadow Ball after boosting a little, because the sword is normally uncapable of KOing meloetta if has no boost (so choose your switches wisely). Meloetta can also take two or three of Greninja´s dark pulses (asuming boosted) and easily KO back.
Plying with psychics requires a lot of prediction, as most of them fit better on an offensive and pretty frail team, so play a lot with the team and get used to do very accurate predictions if you want to win a lot of games.
Also Mew is an amazing dark type lure, as it can cause heavy superpower damage and can stand any dark attack (including bisharp´s knock off) if you hold a colbur berry.
Banded Victini is a really amazing pokémon, 2hkoing absolutely everything with using his STAB attack and you can abuse of that using a little of bolt turn (not too necesary) and giving Bullet Punch to your Metagross to finish out the things that can live a V Create and also giving him a Choice Band or Life Orb to boost his attack even more withouth messing with HP and deffense.
As Meloetta has an amazing special deffense you can use her a little more specially deffensive and cover much more than Assault Vest Metagross can.
If you follow some of the tips that i gave you above, you will be in need of using a Scarfer, which you can choose from the many offensive mons that are psychic type. You could use one of the lati twins (they have a very wide movepool and offensive power), a scarfed Gothitelle (with this pokémon you´re able to KO some problematic things withouth letting escape thanks to Shadow Tag). Also sashed Alakazam with Magic Guard is really good revenge killer if you´re in troubles, but you have to choose who would like to use and fits better to your style.
If you want to make changes to the team or want some healp with it you can send me a message if you want to...
A last tip, if you start having troubles with some offensive pokémon try out wobbuffet, is a really really amazing psychic type that can be a lot usefull.

Well, hope this was usefull to you!!

That is a good point. I forgot about Bronzong.

Latios is a great sweeper.. can't believe I didn't recommend that. I got a set for it. This set may be odd but it works really well with me. The Defense EVs really help it with Sucker Punch. Plus it already has decent SpD, and then Calm Mind. The Defense EVs also help it Setup with Roost. I am a huge Latios fan and an even bigger dragon fan... I'm probably gonna make a Dragon Monotype team.

Latios @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EVs: 240 Def / 252 SpA / 16 Spe
- Roost
- Psyshock / Psychic
- Dragon Pulse
- Calm Mind
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Latias is a fantastic wall, although I don't use it much. It also has excellent SpA as well, but leave Latios to sweeping. This a Wall set but it can be used as a support or a sweeper. Thunder Wave isn't a must have, but it could help a lot of the late game sweepers. Especially slower ones. Again, I'm not experienced as much with Latias than I am with Latios.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Latias @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 Def / 40 SpD / 218 HP
- Roost
- Healing Wish
- Psyshock / Thunder Wave
- Dragon Pulse / Thunder Wave
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jirachi is my favorite Pokemon besides Latios. I LOVE it. You can use it for Stealth Rocks, Elemental Punches with a Life Orb, a Choice Scarf + Serene Grace + Iron Head. A bulky healer with Wish. Jirachi is just so awesome to me. I like its looks and I can use it well in a competitive battle. Choice Scarf Jirachi is my favorite set out of all. Just flinch the foes Pokemon to death.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Serene Grace
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 6 HP
- Iron Head
- Ice Punch
- Fire Punch
- Thunder Punch

+2 Aegislash usually doesn't even OHKO Meleotta with Shadow Sneak most of the time. Put aside unboosted Shadow Sneak.

Your sets are nice, Stardust!
Try out Latias with the first one (the one you use with Latios), she can abuse better of Calm Mind. If the evs you used right there are for standing sucker punch users, you have nothing to hit the most common ones, such as Bisharp. A Power-Ranger lure set can be used all right with hidden power fighting (and not so much investment) and hidden power fire -also hitting scizor and aegis a bit- (full SPA). The best option if you find youself in front of a Sucker Punch user is just to switch out the lati and take into a better counter for it.
Your Jirachi set seems pretty good, could be usefull in some cases. Iron head can now hit the common fairy types and the other moves make an amazing coverage set, but overall Jirachi has low offensive stats to be a powerfull scarfer with other strategy than spamming Iron Head/Zen Headbutt, taking weakened foes and hitting with 4x advantage (your actual moveset is good for that). Jirachi may be an amazing mon sometimes but with this team it can do much, it´s actual scarfer, Meloetta, can hit a lot harder than it.

Okay, I've taken what you guys have said into consideration, and have edited the first post with changes in bold. I'll be doing some testing with it later today, and will report the changes.

Yeah, I understand how Sucker Punch users like Bisharp are threats, but I've never really run into much of them. I also don't make monotype teams and usually have a dark type resist. Jirachi actually pairs well with Flying types and Dragon types. Fire Punch and Iron Head pairs well with Gyarados. (I'm a Gyarados fan). Mega Gardevoir would also be very nice on this team.

Actually, for a monotype Psychic team, Jirachi + Latios + Latias + M-Gardevoir would be a really nice offensive and defensive core. Jirachi can set up rocks too.

Hi! I just checked your team, it sees much more balanced than before, how are you doing with it?
About your debate between modest and timid latios, i suggest you to use timid. why? Well there are many many scarfers and fast pokémon at+1 that you can easily kill and surprise with your scarfed Latios, like Greninja, +1 Mega Charizard X, Scarfed Garchomp, 99% DD Dragonite, +1 Gyarados, etc... you ensure to have a good speed, your speciall attack is already very high and have other hard hitting things that also make good synergy with timid latios, like Meta and Vic.
Good luck!
thanks for reading
p.s. use latios with surf/ice beam instead of shadow ball if you fall in problems.

Well, I've been getting some assistance from some members of my league as well, and we've come up with a few different options, so I'm testing that set-up now.
