The Psychic Gym (The Trick Room)

Well, I saw some other threads about Gym teams so I decided to experiment on this for a few days. There's one thing I noticed about Psychic types, and most of them have lower speed than average. So, I made a team that builds on slow Psychic types, and covering the different weaknesses of Psychic. Trick Room works amazingly on this team, but it was kinda weird when I ran into another Trick Room Team. Of course, everyone has 0 Spe IVs.

mesprit.png

Mesprit @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 180 Def / 76 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Trick Room
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- U-turn

Mesprit is a great Trick Room lead. It has below average speed and it can kill off several leads after a Trick Room. I notice most leads try focusing on being fast, so Mesprit's below average speed and very good all around stats make him a prime choice for setting up Trick Room for my team. Then the BoltBeam combo let's me hit nearly everything. U-Turn is for scouting any incoming threats.

slowking.png

Slowking (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Oblivious
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Trick Room
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Nasty Plot

There can never be too many Trick Room users on a Trick Room team, so I chose Slowking as an alternative way to set up Trick Room, just in case Mesprit dies. As one of the slowest Pokemon, he can easily move before the opponent. For offense, he also acts as a Nasty Plot Sweeper. After a few Nasty Plots, I reset Trick Room, then proceed to sweep the rest of the team.

claydol.png

Claydol @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Atk / 112 Def
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

Claydol is my utility Pokemon. He has very good defensive stats, has the ability to set up Rocks, and Spin at the same time. Stone Edge is the primary STAB move, and can kill off pesky Bug types, and Earthquake is for switch ins that resist Stone Edge.

metagross.png

Metagross @ Leftovers
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 236 Atk / 20 Def
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- ThunderPunch
- Ice Punch

Metagross, is always amazing on Psychic team. His speed isn't very high, so he's a nice addition for this team. His moveset gives him near perfect coverage. He has fantastic defense, and especially Attack. Ice Punch and Thunder Punch is kind of like a BoltBeam combo but physical so basically just those two attacks provide good enough coverage, and Meteor Mash is a great STAB move and finally Earthquake for electric and fire switch ins.

gallade.png

Gallade (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Steadfast
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Psycho Cut

Gallade, his Speed is also below average, so he's my Swords Dance sweeper, and he's great for this team. After a few SDs, he becomes force to be reckoned with, sometimes, ripping apart a whole team. Close Combat is a great STAB move, and the Defense effect will not be much of a bother, since I will outspeed a lot of Pokemon anyway. Psycho Cut is a reliable STAB move, and it works great in conjuction with Close Combat. Finally, Stone Edge is for Flying types.

exeggutor.png

Exeggutor (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 144 HP / 112 Def / 252 SAtk
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Sleep Powder
- Trick Room
- Psychic
- Leaf Storm

My last Trick Room user if all else fails. I wanted one more heavy hitter, and with Exeggutor's low speed, high Special Attack, ability to set up Trick Room, and to induce sleep makes him a good candidate for the last slot. I needed one more Trick Room user, and, it sort of feels like what Blue did. Leaf Storm is for Water types, preferably the bulky kind. Psychic is for a powerful STAB, and Sleep Powder is to status the enemy to be able to set up either for myself or my team mates.

Any comments, or suggestions?

Just a few little things, You need a Bronzong to sponge the ghost and dark type attacks maybe repace it with Claydol. A Bronzong with sr,tr,gyro ball and explosion would help your team, I'll post the evs later because I'm lazy. Secondly put shadow sneak on Gallade just for the time when the opposing Gengar or rotom is sweeping without trick room in effect.

First off, can't I just sponge it with Metagross? Or is that a bad idea? It probably is.

Then, will Shadow Sneak really be a good Moveslot choice? I think that I can't replace any of the moves there because they all have good use in the set.

First,You Have Three Pokemon To Set up Trick Room Which Is No Good Because It Only Lasts For 5 Turns..So Use Bronzong Over Claydol As He Is a better at setting up trick room n sweep. Also On Slowking,Use The Ability Own Tempo > Oblivious As So You Can Counter Machamps.

Use This Set For Bronzong:
442.png

Bronzong @ Macho Brace/Life Orb
Ability:HeatProof
Ev's:252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature
Moveset:
~ Trick Room
~ Gyro Ball
~ Explosion/Stealth Rock
~ Earthquake

Heatproof suits your team due to two of the team members have weakness to fire

Hope I Helped
GL With The Team!

I question using this team in OU. Is it really worth battling much more powerful pokemon just to use Metagross and Gallade? I think this team would do much better in UU.
You should switch Metagross and Galade to Weezing and Aggron.
Weezing @ Leftovers
~ Fire Blast / Flamethrower
~ Thunderbolt
~ Will-O-Wisp / Haze
~ Pain Split
Bold/252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA

Aggron @ Choice Band
~ Head Smash
~ Aqua Tail
~ Low Kick
~ Ice Punch
Adamant/ 252 Atk / 252 Def / 4 SpD

You should defiantly test this out, I think it will thrive much more in UU.

Try making a bulkier slowking. Move the roughly 196 Ev’s from special attack to special defense. This way you have more time to be able to boost with NP or set up a fresh trickroom. Even 276 sp attack will rise to 552 after one boost. I do agree that you could be using a bronzong to sponge damage. Remember you will be switching a lot and bronzong can reliably come into attacks and set up for you
You could run a trick/ trickroom uxie lead with choice scarf with jolly nature and 31 IV’s and 56 EV’s . It may seem counterproductive but it lets you out run anything that isn’t using choice scarf and lets you set up a trick room while they switch out.

I think that placing Wish on Exeggutor would be a great idea, especially since no one one on your team has a method of healing.

Your team has huge, huge troubles with Life Orb Gengar if Trick Room is not up. I second the user above who says you should use a Bronzong, because it is able to OHKO Gengar before it causes any troubles to your team.
