ORAS Ubers The Raging Demon (Arceus-Dark team, peaked 1520)

Hi everybody! Welcome to my first ever RMT, showing a team which I have used to ladder with relative success for a player like myself. This is based around none other than Arceus-Dark, a mon who I have always seen as epic in both design and competitively.

Without further ado, let's get started:

I wanted to make a team around A-Dark, since he seemed to offer a wide variety of things that any team would like. It can threaten many top-tier threats such as the Defog twins, as well as be an all around great wincon.

Upon looking for team members that can help Arceus Dark, I decided Mega Gengar would be a natural fit, as it traps many opposing mons who would otherwise ruin A-Dark.

Enter Primal Groudon, a great check to Xerneas, Rocks setter as well as generally being an amazing mon that all teams should use.

Ho-Oh pairs up extremely well with PDon and Arceus Dark and is needed on the team to break most mons in the tier, as well as having great utility in the awesome move that is Sacred Fire.

Since we're using Ho-Oh having something that gets rid of SR is basically mandatory. Lati is able to do this with relative ease, making it an important mon for my team.

The final mon added to my team might seem a strange choice, but its ability to deter HO players from just mindlessly setting up is vital. Basically, Arceus-Dark is great against Stall while this thing rocks against Hyper Offense.

Now for the sets and some more detailed explanations:

The Team

Judge Dread (Arceus-Dark) @ Dread Plate
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 252 HP/4 Sp.Atk/252 Spe
Timid Nature
-Calm Mind
-Judgement
-Recover
-Refresh
Arceus-Dark's role has always been simple. Stack up some Calm Mind boosts and plough through the opposing team. It utilises its great natural bulk, awesome movepool and solid typing to do this. I think the reason it isn't seen more often is cos its quite hard to teambuild around it and the ever-present Xerneas which can more often than not beat it. Refresh allows me to take on Stall easier and act as a status absorber for the team if need be. The easiest way to start sweeping with this thing is to switch in on something it can threaten out, like the Defog Latis, Arceus-Ghost, Lugia and Giratina. Even after 1 CM this thing is a monster, denting holes in stuff that isn't prepared for it.

gengarite.png

Anathema (Gengar-Mega) @ Gengarite
Ability: Levitate > Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 Spe/4 Sp.Def/252 Sp.Atk
Timid Nature
-Taunt
-Sludge Bomb
-Focus Blast
-Destiny Bond
Mega Gengar offers this team the ability to trap anything which I need removed. Its ability to use Taunt and then Destiny Bond has won me games before, and the combination of Sludge Bomb and Focus Blast allows me to hit a wide variety of threats. I'm actually debating whether or not to switch out Focus Blast for Shadow Ball but I'm undecided since FB has been very useful so far and so I'd like feedback on this.

Sol (Groudon-Primal) @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought > Desolate Land
EVs: 248 HP/ 56 Def/ 204 Sp. Def
Relaxed Nature
-Stealth Rock
-Earthquake
-Lava Plume
-Roar

As I mentioned earlier, Primal Groudon is a top-tier defining mon which every team runs and/or prepares for. This particular PDon set is my lead most of the time, and generally wants to set up Rocks as soon as possible. The EV Spread lets me check GeoXern and the Def investment lets me take hits from Ekiller and even opposing PDon. Roar is used over Dragon Tail to phase out GeoXern in a pinch and sub users etc.

BURN ALL (Ho-Oh) @ Choice Band
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP/ 208 Atk/ 52 Sp. Def
Adamant Nature
-Sacred Fire
-Brave Bird
-Earthquake
-Sleep Talk
This is the typical Smogon Bird set that you have seen roaming the ladder countless times over, but it does my team wonders. I'm aware that many people have made the switch from CB to Life Orb, but I really appreciate the extra stopping power that a Band Provides, it can even dent resists with such Powerful STABs and switches a lot to take advantage of Regen anyway. If I ever see a Deoxys-S or Deo-A, this is my go-to lead as I basically have a 50% chance of OHKO'ing them thanks to the burn chance of SF. Sleep Talk cos otherwise Darkrai terrorises this team.

souldew.png
380.gif
souldew.png

Eon Guardian (Latias) Soul Dew
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 144 HP/ 172 Sp.Atk/ 192 Spe
Timid Nature
-Draco Meteor
-Psyshock
-Recover
-Defog

Latias provides the Defog support that this team needs but is also a very potent threat thanks to the blessing that ORAS gave it, the return of Soul Dew. The EV Spread is a compromise between bulk, power and speed and allows me to live hits from Xerneas, Gengar and Darkrai etc. Lati serves as the team's other check to Primal Kyogre if it ever switches in on PDon. A well timed Psyshock can also allow my team to handle Xerneas much easier.

How to Ladder (Ditto) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Imposter
EVs: 248 HP/ 252 Def/ 8 Sp. Def
Relaxed Nature
-Transform
-???
-???
-???

This thing, OMG. You might dismiss Ditto as low ladder garbage, and tbh you're probably right. But on a team like this, where many people often rely on Setup to beat Arceus-Dark, this thing is pure Blue Gold. Stuff like Sala, Ekiller, GeoXern and Darkrai are dealt with much easier by the mere presence of this thing in team view. They either decide not to setup in the hopes that I don't switch in and clean up, and when they do it just isn't pretty. To sum it up, Arceus murders the Stall, this thing murders the HO :P

Threat List

- I hate this thing so much. Depending on the set its running, the whole team can get decimated without a chance. I generally rely on Destiny Bond M-Gar to get rid of this thing, and if Gengar is gone then I'm pretty much done.

- What team isn't threatened by this thing e.e

- My PDon is pretty slow, and I have to play carefully around opposing PDon, especially if they carry Stone Edge.

Hey UltimaJC,

This is a pretty solid team here. Arceus-Dark and Gengar together give this team a pretty phenomenal stall matchup. That said, there are a few things which this team struggles with. Firstly, Ho-Oh is a a tough matchup for this build, since it gets a few switches and pretty much lack switch-ins. Aside from that, I agree that Dark-types like Yveltal can be difficult (Arceus-Dark is a soft check), and Salamence puts in a lot of work.

I dislike the choice of Ditto on this team- while it's a mediocre band-aid for some Pokemon, it is far more effective to have a different Pokemon for this build in that slot. I would recommend Klefki in this spot, since it can help check Yveltal and Salamence. If you decide not to do this, it makes you slightly weaker to Ekiller, so running Protect Gengar works to alleviate this (as it allows you to mega evolve for free and outspeed it with Destiny Bond/Focus Blast depending on HP range). This really leaves one more pretty annoying weakness, Ho-Oh. I think you could possibly run Salamence over Gengar, and while you lose a dedicated Fairy-killer, you get to circumvent your Ho-Oh issue. The problem is, I wanted to run a Ho-Oh check over your Ho-Oh, since Spikes are a bit weird with Ho-Oh and Klefki checks Xerneas, but most Ho-Oh checks are Megas (Diancie, Salamence), or Arceus formes (Rock, Water to an extent). If you really wanted, you could try something like Gliscor over Ho-Oh but I don't really have any experience with that. Anyways, for the Salamence set you could either go with a bulky DD or defensive set (on the defensive set, you could either run Toxic over Defog or Calm Mind over Defog on Latias).

That last paragraph was a bit unorganized, sorry. I hope you could follow, I tried to give you a number of possible options which all crossed my mind while trying to rate this. Most of your set/spread options are pretty fine so I would guess you could find sets you need for the suggestions I made, but here is the Ubers analyses page if needed.

Good luck!

Yo Fren solid team right here so good job. In ORAS Ubers It's pretty much difficult to make a solid build around Gengar/Darkceus since you lose your mega slot and Arceus slot(So massive opportunity cost loss)in the process without having defensive solidity. So unfortunately I think Without Ditto this has almost no chance of working.Even if I was never a ditto fan but with this build it's essential or you auto lose to HO.Anyway I have a couple of suggestions mainly that will take this build to a more offensive one and thus to a more effective one.

1)You have Gengar/Ditto/Groudon you aint weak at all to Xerneas. So I suggest you change that ho oh set and use a more offensive set with speed creep that allows you to outspeed Groudons(Defensive as well as offensive) and most base 90s like Giratina-O/Kyogre as well as defensive yveltal.
Ho-Oh @ Choice Band
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Sacred Fire
- Earthquake
- Sleep Talk

2)A more Offensive Groudon with stealth rock that still lives a hit from Xerneas After rocks is what you need the most.Helps you deal with your ho oh weakness and hits Salamences really hard.
Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Precipice Blades
- Stone Edge
- Rock Polish
- Stealth Rock

Another Option if you don't want Rock polish is to run a bulkier set with Dtail but having stone edge and some speed creep is not an option. You need it.

Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 248 HP / 124 Atk / 56 Def / 80 Spe
Impish Nature
- Precipice Blades
- Stone Edge
- Dragon Tail
- Stealth Rock
both sets can put in work you choose what you want.
Hope I helped and good luck!
