At a Glance
I was reluctant to play 5th Gen for a long time but eventually 4th Gen did become dull and I had to move on. At first I didn't like it but after getting used to the metagame I don't mind it too much. That being said, the goal of this team was to use pokemon I liked, so it might not be perfectly crafted but I tried to create a reasonably workable team out of a few of my favorites. For lack of any better ideas, I decided to use dual screens to allow my already bulky pokes to take more hits and set up easily.
Team Building:
I started with Arcanine because he has been one of my favorites for a while, and now that he gets some good physical moves to use, using him makes some sense.
I then added Suicune since Arcanine needs help against Ground and Rock types, both of which Suicune can usually easily switch into due to his good defenses.
Adding Scizor to the team also seemed to make sense because he and Arcanine can work well together, especially if Scizor can lure a fire attack, powering up Arcanine's Flare Blitz to insane levels.
At this point I decided I needed to pick my dual screener of choice, and Jirachi came to mind because he could do the job reliably and has his weaknesses nicely covered by Suicune.
Latias was added due to her ability to also set up screens and provide Wish support for the team, as well as occasionally letting a power Draco Meteor fly.
Finally I added Conkelldurr because I felt I was missing someone to take hits from the Physical side, and with a couple bulk ups this guy can really hit hard.
In Detail
2Pac (Jirachi) @ Light Clay Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Magic Coat
- Body Slam
I almost always lead with Jirachi, and if I see the opponent with anything that could use entry hazards, I go right ahead and Magic Coat them. Generally since people like to set up rocks right off the bat I can have it backfire, and then proceed to use my screens. If needed I can Body Slam to paralyze anything I deem to be a threat.
Dr. Dre (Latias) (F) @ Light Clay
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 144 SAtk / 112 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Wish
- Draco Meteor
My second dual screener. Honestly this probably isn't necessary and I'm thinking of changing this to a Calm Mind set and making Suicune more of a utility for the team, but we'll see.
Eazy-E (Arcanine) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 76 HP / 180 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Flare Blitz
- Close Combat
- Wild Charge
- ExtremeSpeed
Arcanine has nice coverage and he can hit a lot of things hard with his STAB Flare Blitz, especially with a Flash Fire boost that Scizor can help him receive.
Geto Boys (Scizor) (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Bug Bite
- Pursuit
This is just a classic CB Scizor, I opted for this over a Swords Dance set because I didn't really feel I needed another set-upper, I just wanted a reliable strong team member, and Scizor fills the role I want nicely.
Ice Cube (Suicune) @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]
This guy can really hit hard and sponge up Special Attacks with a couple Calm Minds. Suicune and Conk are basically the same thing, except that they fill both sides of the attacking spectrum.
Biggie (Conkeldurr) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Guts
EVs: 176 HP / 80 Atk / 252 Def
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Bulk Up
- Mach Punch
- Drain Punch
- Payback
As with Suicune, with a Bulk Up or two Conkeldurr can really screw stuff over, as well as take a lot of hits from Physical attacks. My EVs try to maximize his tanking ability, while still leaving him 369 Attack unboosted, which is nothing to laugh at.
Overall I'd like it if someone has a better idea for my Latias, as I don't think she's being used to her full potential with her current job.
