The Shine Squad

Now, this is a team I truly had fun making. It basically focuses on picking up a few cheerfully colored pokemon (pink, blue, yellow, you know the drill) and putting them into some form of reasonable team. I'll let you yourself decide how good it is.

Aura (Zapdos) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 240 HP/100 Def/20 SAtk/150 SDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Roost
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Roar

Of course any team that's called the shine squad is going to have an electric pokemon, and this one leads off with Zapdos! This is a very bulky electric pokemon, one that just stops so much it's almost on every single one of my teams. EVs are for equal defenses, standard set. Although Zapdos can take plenty of punishment from unboosted attacks, boosted ones are an annoyance. Roar fixes that up quite simply. Failsafe plan for stuff like Curselax, Raikou, Bellyzard.

Shine (Lickilicky) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 224 HP/38 Atk/72 Def/176 SDef
Sassy nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Curse
- Explosion

What a cheerful guy you are! Happy, to say the least! What's this? Why are you cursing at me? Whipping me? Steel balls?! Ouch ouch *boooom*. That over dramatization just describes my entire set. It basically is a ridiculous pokemon to take out after a curse, and can really dent non-steel types. After a Curse, Gyro Ball is powered up even more, KOing most fast threats. Power Whip is mainly for bulky grounds. Explosion is if I get bored of whatever steel comes in to wall me.

Serenity (Jirachi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 240 HP/14 Atk/100 Def/154 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Zen Headbutt
- Body Slam
- Wish

A very "bright" pokemon, this little one is the definition of "utility". It sets up rocks to ruin focus sashes, paralyzes, flinches and at the end provides wish support. Nothing is more useful than this pokemon! It also walls and stops Dragons and CBNormals.

heracross.png

Spring (Heracross) (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Guts
EVs: 154 HP/252 Atk/104 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge

This pokemon is a nice blue and cheerful color, and it gets even happier after it OHKOs the enemy team. After Jirachi gives out some paralysis, this just cleans up the scraps and has a very fun time doing so. Guts activation gives me enough Attack to leave nothing alive after two hits, scary indeed. It's got a decent range of switch ins as well.

Aqua (Milotic) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 148 HP/228 Def/132 SDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Recover
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Electric]

This pokemon defines shine, and the image just shows that. It's a wonderful wall that serves as a counter to most of the offensive metagame with its stats. I opted for HP Electric over Hypnosis, because I have some Para running around and I am not a fan of Gyarados sweeps. If necessary, she can clean up some teams with no recovery, but I have other pokemon for that!

gengar2.png

pacman_ghost_t.jpg

Sinistre (Gengar) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Focus Blast
- Hypnosis
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
---
Everything has a dark side, even a bright team such as this. Life Orb Gengar is a demon, hehe. It has three great immunities, has the speed necessary to beat Garchomp and Infernape (And if your team doesn't have that sort of speed, you'd better be VERY careful), and to top it off can defeat Blissey. It's evil yes, but so is a part of everything. It's also a sort of failsafe if Jirachi doesn't manage to paralyze enough things to make Heracross a definite possibility. And yes, that's a Pacman ghost.

So there's the team! Tell me what you like or you don't not like!

I can see an opposing Choice Band Heracross posing difficulties unless you're always a step ahead. A simple misprediction could cost you a Pokemon, you don't want to be facing that prospect everytime it switches in. Zapdos, Gengar and your own Heracross can't really take a Stone Edge; Lickilicky, Jirachi and Milotic don't like taking Close Combat.

How do you deal with a team member being put to sleep? I know Roar on Zapdos allows you to prevent stat ups, in theory, but being incapacitated altogether is surely a far worse fate. Milotic could use Rest and Sleep Talk too, though you'd probably want to hold onto HP Electric so Stone Edge Gyarados doesn't get the jump on you.

The theme is undoubtedly cool, and you've gotta get bonus points for using Lickilicky. :)

Well, no team can really come into a Heracross if they don't have a Gliscor or a Weezing easily, it's all mainly prediction. I just try to stay ahead of it, limit its options by putting up SR and attacking when I think it'll come in.

As for sleep, I try to have Jirachi take the sleep, it doesn't perform functions that are immediately needed, so if there's a few turns without SR or Wish, so be it.

Not too advanced, but it works.

You asked me to rate this... so here we go.

Honestly it seems kinda solid, though the lack of a scarfer could be a problem. Seems Milotic is holding the entire team together, and with her gone everything can sweep you.

I don't like lickilicki... at all. It Cureses, Explodes, and there goes your Scarfgar "counter", as well as taking whatever special attacks.

Garchomp problems too. Gengar can outspeed but what if it subs? I don't think Milotic can take a +2EQ with spikes on the field, EV'd like that. yache berry chomp....yupppp.

Zapdos needs more defense and less special defense for obvious reasons. Why do you need so much spdef anyway?

Well, Milotic is a key part of the team, but so is everybody really.

As for Lickilicky, it's basically Suicide Bomber Curselax, except shinier. Zapdos, Jirachi and Milotic can all take Gar moderately well, so I'm not TOO worried if I need to blow Licki up. It's usually for a good cause anyways.

As for Chomp, the moment it gets up a sub is the moment I roar it away. But in truth the best way I have to deal with chomp is to go to revenge kill it. But isn't that the case for a lot of people?

And I pumped Dos full of Sp. Def to take on Ape, Starmie, etc

I like this team but it lacks speed. I would try Choice Scarf Heracross, just test it out, and see how it does. I think it would really help with your hera problem as it has stone edge or aerial ace and gengar problem where you have night slash. Close Combat and Megahorn are standard.

Your team is so damn solid. It's pretty hard picking out random problems with it but I'll give it another try. Lickilicky sounds like quite an abuser to me, whipping people, using balls of steel and exploding and all, but what if Skarmory comes in, or perhaps Bronzong or Tangrowth or something similar. Good luck taking that down without sacrificing yourself. I'd probably slap Flamethrower/Fire Blast onto it to take down them steel types, who resist every single on of your attacks (painful I know).

One thing I probably don't like is lack of status absorbers (other than Heracross but it can't deal with being paralyzed can it?) Sure your individual members can absorb a certain status, but it seems you can only absorb Toxic and no other status (baring Heracross and its damned Guts ability). ResTalk Milotic can really work. Lets it survive longer, allows it to take any status and simply rid of it, as well as abusing Marvel Scale and making its Defense sky high.

Way too solid! >;o I guess this is... 'favour' returned? =]]

A smart Lucario user can give you some problems, also I'm inclined to day that a sleep talker may help a lot, whether it be zapdos, milotic, or just adding sleep talk over pursuit on megahorn, as this team hates sleep with a passion, and a small sacrifice might go a long way, but other than that solid team for sure.

Well this fell off the front page faster than expected. Just bumping and reserving a spot to answer all the posts just as soon as I have time.

It's a very nice team, Light.

You're correct about Heracross, who will give you problems while your only answer to it is prediction.

There's also no solid counter to Garchomp, and your Gengar is the only response to Swords Dance varients, who are usually paired with Sanstorm. That said, Tyranitar with Choice Band + Crunch will also be an annoying thing to handle. Them two are what I'd be worried about the most, and Jibaku's special defense Tyranitar survives your only main answer to Garchomp, Gengar's Life Orb attacks.

Lucario has already been mentioned, but Azelf has not - Who's another potential danger to the team.

I have to rush off now, but I will get back to this later.
