The Ugly Duckling? : Jynx Discussion

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-dp/124.shtml

Jynx

Type(s): Ice/Psychic
Base Stats: 65 HP, 50 Atk, 35 Def, 115 SAtk, 95 SDef, 95 Spd

Notable Physical Movepool

Ice Punch
Wake-up Slap
Avalanche
Body Slam
Focus Punch
Frustration / Return
Brick Break
Facade
Fling
Drain Punch
Natural Gift
Fake Out

Well, it's not all half-bad. Ice Punch is a good STAB move, Avalanche is interesting, so is Natural Gift (lol). This isn't this thing's forte. :/

Notable Special Movepool

Wring Out
Blizzard
Water Pulse
Hidden Power
Ice Beam
Psychic
Shadow Ball
Energy Ball
Dream Eater
Grass Knot

Now, this isn't all bad. Ice Beam and Psychic are awesome obviously for STAB, Shadow Ball is pretty cool and Energy Ball is nice, kind of. :P This doesn't shine much either, ;[

Notable Support Movepool

Lovely Kiss
Mean Look
Fake Tears
Perish Song
Calm Mind
Toxic
Hail
Taunt
Light Screen
Protect
Reflect
Rest
Endure
Recycle
Psych Up
Captivate
Sleep Talk
Swagger
Substitute
Trick Room
Meditate
Wish
Miracle Eye

Now this, this is fucking awesome. I mean, the first four moves I listed could rape a standard team. Lovely Kiss is obviously a must-have on this, Fake Tears is really awesome, Mean Look traps, and Perish Song kills. Gangster. Also learns both walls, Reflect and Light Screen, great for a support set. Taunt is nice, Substitute is always useful, Wish is hot on it, and 2 underrated moves on it could be Psych Up and Captivate. Captivate could be VERY useful if you encounter an idiot who keeps all of his pokes as male, Mean Look them, and proceed to own them while they sit there with a mediocre attack. (Fucking great vs most special noobs)

Potential Movesets

Jynx @ Quick Claw
Trait: Forewarn
EV's: 196 HP, 252 SAtk, 62 Spd
Nature: Modest

- Lovely Kiss
- Mean Look
- Fake Tears
- Ice Beam

Quick Claw is so annoying, but it really works and makes it so you don't have to put as much EV's into speed. :] Mean Look / Lovely Kiss for a free Fake Tears, then sweep away. Pretty awesome IMO, Ice Beam is STAB'd, and with a huge SAtk, this thing is a monster. Look for it to surprise a couple of teams.

Jynx @ Leftovers
Trait: Forewarn
EV's: 252 HP, 4 SDef, 252 Spd
Nature: Jolly

- Lovely Kiss
- Wish
- Mean Look
- Perish Song

Standard perish trapper set for it pretty much. Mean Look first, then Lovely Kiss afterwards so they don't get to attack you. Wish is incase they wake up. Perish Song for the win.

Counters

O.o Help me out here xD

So, that's just a taste. Discuss.

Why do list a Physical Movepool when its not even viable. Its alright on a pokemon like Lucario, who can easily do both, but on Jynx?

I like this set. which I think kind of goes like.
Jynx @ Leftovers
Trait: Oblivious
EV's: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Speed
Lovely Kiss
Calm Mind
Psychic
Ice Beam

Its deadly if played correctly, but I'm afraid there are much better choices than Jynx for this set. Dual Stab rocks though.

95 base speed is, while above average, kind of a shame as it doesn't even outspeed the +spd natured Salamences (does there exist any?) or Garchomps. I could possibly try a (novelty) set with Ice Beam / Mean Look / Perish Song / Lovely Kiss. Switch in on something that won't like staying in, Mean Look and Sleep the incoming Pokémon and perish trap it. Could score a few surprise kills.

Then again, it's too frail overall..

I think Jynx's best chances are still

Jynx @ Leftovers
~Timid/Modest~ (I like Timid better)
252 sp.at, 252 spd, 4 hp

-Lovely Kiss
-Ice Beam
-Sub
-CM

It's a beast now, it'll be a beast there too. Other viable options are with the Choice Specs/Scarve. I can see Ice Beam, Psychic, HP Fighting and Energy Ball working. Just switch out on all Steels plz.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned this yet.

Jynx w/ Choice Specs
Trait: Oblivious
EVs: < 4 HP / 252 Speed / 252 Special Attack >
Nature: Modest < + Special Attack / - Attack >
* Grass Knot
* Hidden Power [Fighting]
* Ice Beam
* Psychic

Seems really cool. ^_^

It is viable, the CSJynx. However, the LK/Psychic/IB/CM set its madness. And the Perish Trapper (L-Kiss/M-Look/P-Song/Protect-Sub-IB) fucks up Blissey.

I don't think Jynx will see a lot of play, with Pursuit becoming Physical. Metagross and Houndoom are probably the best counters for it, but if you can take down Jynx's counters it could do a lot of damage.

What about Team supporter Jynx??

dpffa124.png

Jynx @ Leftovers
Trait: Forewarm
EVs: 252 HP / 54 Def / 204 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Wish
- Reflect
- Lovely Kiss
- Ice Beam

Enough Speed to outspeed the max Speed Adamant Garchomp, Max HP to take some hits and well the Set talks alone, Reflect to support your team (and seeing that the most common switch against Jynx is a Physical Sweeper), Lovely Kiss to Sleep the foe and Wish to finally switch to a Swords Dancer/Schemer, etc, Ice Beam because of STAB and great type coverage

With Max HP and 54 Evs in Def you can survive even a ChoiceBanded Adamant Max Atk Garchomp EQ after Reflect, and OHKO it back with Ice Beam (266 SpA + STAB is all what you need)

The first set I listed is still the MOST deadly because you do 1 Fake Tears and they're screwed. When they switch in a poke that's strong against it you switch. That simple.

Fake Tears Jynx is like a Screechgon except 5 base points slower (all the matter in the world) as well as much weaker defensively.
Luna Jynx still rocks hard but forever and always runs into problems with only one attacking move as well as sub-breakers.
Team Support Jynx is nifty and will probably see the most use after Luna.
AGJynx is too slow to rape up although the movepool is definitely there.
Perishtrap Jynx should not even be mentioned.

If I were to do a perish trapping jynx, it would definitely be Mean Look, Lovely Kiss, Taunt, Perish Song

Taunt to foil sleep talkers.

I would go
Jynx @ Choice Specs/Scarf
Timid 80 Hp/176 Spd/252 SpA
Modest 102 Hp/156 Spd/252 SpA
-Lovely Kiss
-Psychic
-Ice Beam
-Shadow Ball

Choice in bold is what I would go with since it outspeeds Jolly Heracross and basically use Jynx like a worse off Gengar. With the Modest Evs and Choice Scarf it reaches 397 Speed.

lol @ Worse Gengar. This thing is a monster, and that set doesn't show much of it's sick movepool. Shadow Ball, no. Use Fake Tears over it, like I did. =/

Fake Tears is the most underrated move on this poke imo and it's freaking sexy.

Well why would you use fake tears if you are locked into one move with Choice specs/Scarf? Exactly you wouldn't. Oh and shadow ball would wreak Cresslia who would otherwise be a free switch after you put something to sleep which is exactly like Gengar.

Fake Tears is a good move but a few choice pokemon are faster than Jynx and the super bad defenses don't help.
