This team was created to test and abuse sweepers which are more viable in the post-Misdreavus metagame, pokemon that were countered or simply outclassed by the sadistic little fiend. It's evolved to become the most successful Little Cup team I've used, reaching #1 on the ladder - to celebrate this, I'm (re)posting it in its latest incarnation.

With the '2 Ghosts, 1 Cup' metagame now ended, one of my favourite Little Cup sweepers has become viable again - Choice Scarf Machop. Ghosts are pretty much the only safe switch-ins to ScarfChop. Frail Gastly is now the only really common Ghost and many LC teams don't even carry any incorporeal DynamicPunch absorbers. It's relatively easy to set up for a Chop sweep in this environment, and that's what the team is built around doing.

Focus Sash Snover is one of the best and most reliable Little Cup leads I have used. Sash allows it to beat many common leads – things like Kabuto would usually expect to OHKO with super-effective STAB but instead they lose to Snover’s power plus Hail. The Hail damage is actually a benefit to this team – at worst, I’m hurt no more than they are, while at best the damage can help Machop bludgeon its way through its counters.

If Snover comes up against a lead that it forces out or doesn’t have to sacrifice itself in order to beat, it can return later. With its Sash intact, it can stop almost any sweep and even without it Ice Shard is a useful revenge-killing tool and helps take out Gligar. Protect helps against Fake Out leads. I would have liked to fit Hidden Power Fire or Ground somewhere, because I’m walled at present by Fire and Steel-types, but I think all the moves I have are necessary. I’ve also considered changing Energy Ball to Seed Bomb in order to hit Munchlax harder. Suggestions are welcome.

Since I don’t have a lead that can set up Rocks, having another pokemon that can do so is paramount and Gligar fits the bill. However, the typical bulky Gligar doesn’t really suit me – I wanted a flying scorpion that could force switches and keep pace with the fastest Little Cup pokes. As such, this Gligar plays a little bit differently – it uses pace and power to force switches, rather than its bulk, and that gives it opportunities to Rock up or Roost. The second attack slot is a tough choice. Aqua Tail helps hit Phanpy, Hippopotas, other Gligar, but those are already dealt with nicely by Snover and AT doesn’t quite have the coverage of Stone Edge. Things like Mantine can easily set up and, under the right conditions, will race through my team. Thoughts?

Munchlax is similar to Gligar in that it’s a bulky pokemon with a very offensive set. Lax is very useful because it provides some special bulk to my team, switching into attacks my other pokes can’t take on. It also resists Gligar’s Ice weakness quite nicely. However, with Misdreavus gone, Munchlax serves another purpose extremely efficiently. There are no more double-Ghost strategies, so it is free to Pursuit all the Gastlies it wants – especially those Scarf ones that are everywhere at the moment because of Dragon Dance Dratini. With the opponent’s Ghost gone, things get a lot easier for the rest of my team.

The EVs provide Lax with maximum attack power as well as as much special bulk as possible. It can, for example, eat Life Orb Omanyte’s Rain-boosted STAB Hydro Pump and live to tell the tale. If Snover is down, I lack a Water resist and Munchlax is the best recourse in the face of something like Mantyke or Chinchou.

I love this Gastly. I understand that Scarf Gastly is an excellent revenge-killer and sweeper, but this set plays a different role. With the number of Choiced Fighting-types around right now, Gastly can thrive – most players will dive straight for Munchlax or something, especially if they fear Scarf. Once that happens, Gastly is almost guaranteed a free kill. Hypnosis is incredibly good – while Sucker Punch is useful for revenge-killing opposing Ghosts, I find it helps Gastly’s rampage if it gets to incapacitate any Munchlax, Croagunk or Stunky that attempt to Sucker Punch Gastly’s Sub.

In addition to its great spead of immunities and resistances, Gastly helps support the team tactically. One potential revenge-killer is Scarf Gastly – once it's locked into Shadow Ball Munchlax gleefully comes in to Pursuit.

Mankey is an excellent revenge killer. Outpacing most regular Choice Scarf users, it checks many important threats to cover. More than that, it’s a useful scout – U-Turning off incoming Gastly into Munchlax is a common play, and a devastating one. Mankey helps the team maintain momentum, and can even clean up a weakened team late-game with powerful Close Combats. Ice Punch hammers Gligar, while Punishment can let Mankey revenge-kill Ghosts if it’s really necessary.

Choice Scarf Machop is my favourite Little Cup sweeper and it’s one of the most effective. It’s bulky as well as hitting hard and fast – it outspeeds all non-Scarfers and takes priority with ease. Banning Misdreavus, while entirely justified, has left the metagame without a bulky and versatile Ghost. Once the opponent’s Ghastly (or Duskull) is out of the way, Machop tears through almost anything. DynamicPunch’s confusion makes it incredibly difficult for anything slower to kill it. Payback even lets it eliminate those irritating Ghost-types itself, should Machop need to be brought out in the early game. Ice Punch can clear Gligar out. Bullet Punch is priority, that staple of Little Cup - allowing Machop to take down slower priority abusers and finish weakened Scarfers and Dratini. It’s especially important because the team as a whole lacks priority.

Nice job on peaking the top of the board, though I never played LC in over weeks, I can definitely help this team out. My one suggestion that could make this team better is the addition of Wood Hammer/Seed Bomb over Energy Ball. Its definitely an option to look for since this allows you to not only hit Munchlax for hard damage, this also allows you to inflict damage on enemy Mantyke for harder damage. RainTyke is a serious threat to this team once Munchlax is removed, and you need Snover to deal with it for back-up purposes. Seed Bomb would hurt Mantyke harder.

On Gastly, I've never actually been a fan of Hypnosis, its far too unreliable in this fast paced metagame. What you can settle for is Will-O-Wisp over Hypnosis. This will allow you to compensate for the lack of Hidden power Fighting, otherwise Aron would set up on Gastly quite easily (assuming you have Sleep clause in effect). Will-O-Wisp just weakens its physical hits, allowing you to switch to Gligar to take the Head Smash. Its just something to look for.

As for other options, there really isn't anything I can say except maybe trying out a Pokemon to fix your Duskull issue. Blizzard / Will-O-Wisp / Pain Split / Shadow Sneak pretty much runs this entire team when you used correctly. I don't know what to fit in because everyone meshes in so well, but you can always incorporate trapDour to deal with Duskull. Its just a matter of choosing who should leave the team. Just a suggestion you might look for in the future. overall gl.

I'm definitely going to try out Seed Bomb on Snover - Wood Hammer seems kinda counter-productive since it breaks my own Sash.

Hypnosis is just so useful on Gastly because it helps it beat Munchlax, which it can't do with Will-o-Wisp. This allows it to continue its bloody rampage.

I do hate Duskull so much. To deal with it, I usually have to sack Gastly (it takes 70-80% from Shadow Sneak), Munchlax, or Snover if it's still alive. I have considered Dour but it really doesn't fit anywhere.

I think Stone Edge is definitely a better choice on Gligar. Mantyke (you said Mantine in OP, BTW) sweepers love Gligar that pack Aqua Tail/EQ to set up on, and unless you have someone who can reliably beat that Mantyke AFTER it's set up, I think you definitely want Stone Edge.

How's Hypnosis worked for you on Sub-Gastly? :0 I've never liked Hypnosis because of its godawful accuracy, and I feel inclined to suggest something like Tbolt or even Wisp in that slot, but if it works, it works. *shrug* ...DOES it work, though? o__0 You tell me.

I'm not sure why you want Bullet Punch on a Scarf Machop. :0 Seems a tad counter-productive to have a priority move on a Scarf set. I don't see why you couldn't run the same set with simply a LO or Oran Berry instead of a scarf, Machop can handle that, can't it? Otherwise, I like Franky's Houndour suggestion, and you can easily replace one of your two Fighting Scarfers, seeing as they essentially have the same coverage. Both are excellent Pokemon for different reasons, but I don't think you need both, so it's just a matter of choosing which you think you need more.

The thing about Machop and Mankey is that they complement each other, weakening the opponent's Fighting-type counters. Mankey's U-Turn also helps this.

Machop really needs its Scarf. The Scarf allows it to outspeed everything that isn't Scarfed, so even things that resist DynamicPunch often will fall to confusion.
 
well one thing i noticed is that dd dratini 6-0s your team after a dragon dance, and it can set up on a payback, punishment, or bullet punch from your two scarfers. im aware that you rarely use anything but stabs or u turn, but i just want you to be aware of that threat. i wouldnt want you to change anything though, because of your teams excellent synergy. other than that, great team.
 
I know Dratini sweeps me - I'm very careful not to let it set up. However, if it does I can just about deal with it. Snover can take an Extremespeed and Ice Shard it, while Gligar can bait it into Outrage for Mankey to revenge.

Most of my games, I only find out they have a Dratini when I'm sweeping them and it comes out as their last poke.
