The Verve are set to reunite for a winter tour.

The original band of Richard Ashcroft, Nick McCabe,Simon Jones and Pete Sailsbury have got together for the first time in almost a decade.

In a statement, the band have announced they were: "Getting back together for the joy of the music."

It is believed they will take a summer break and then return to the studio to complete their next album.

The band broke up in 1999, with the tumultuous relationship between Ashcroft and McCabe being well documented with the two exiting the band repeatedly since they began in 1993.

The band are set to play:

Glasgow Academy (November 2,3)
Blackpool Empress Ballroom (5,6)
London Roundhouse (8,9)

Tickets are set to go on sale on July 6.

ok does anyone smell that? anyone?

that was just me shitting my pants in excitement. and you thought Smashing Pumpkins was exciting.

for the joy of the music? or the joy of the dollar? haha. either way, i'm pretty excited about this. not as excited about the pumpkins, but still excited.

I was under the impression that Bittersweet Symphony killed them because they had to pay the Stones for that sample and made like negative dollars off that song.

Well good for them. Maybe they'll release more cheesy gems like Sonnet lol

Bittersweet Symphony is like one of the best songs of all time, really. And the video is also a masterpiece. I'm very happy to read that they're reuniting.

your indie label can't produce masterpieces like Lucky Man and Sonnet

EDIT: also their old stuff

I agree Bittersweet Symphony was absolutely beautiful, It'd be great if they create some more great songs. Some musicians seem to lose their style after a while, I hope they haven't.

2 years on, what did we all think of the Verve comeback?

Well, personally, the new album "Forth" was a godsend. Abolsolutely amazing, a mix of early Verve sonic storms with Mcabe letting it rip, and perfectly executed Ashcroft tunes akin to Urban Hymns and his following solo career (like Rather Be and Valium Skies). In my honest opinion, they met perfectly on the track "Judas". Just phenominal. And its just a 1-5 progression C-G of all you musicians out there. Bliss.

However, whats even more exciting than the Verve just being back together is that Ashcroft is still contracted for 1 more solo album! So, for people like me who like there "C'mon people", "music is power" and "you in my mind in my sleep", where Ashcrofts faux-americana goes extreme, we still have that in conjunction with new Verve songs.

Live I think they are, possibly better now. Richards voice has grown, and Si's bass playing has come on leaps and bounds in the 10 year gap. Did anyone see their maidaviel performances? Awe-inspiring, especially the extra guy on the electric violin.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Hah, I have no sense of hyperbole in my writing! Its honesty people, really.
