Therian Volt Turn

After having a hiatus from competitive Pokemon for four years, I decided to make a foray into the BW2 metagame. Volt Turn was the team archetype that meshed with my style best, so I decided to incorporate Volt Turn with the new BW2 toys due to the hype.

Cody Rhodes (Thundurus-Therian) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Focus Blast

This guy usually leads off the game for me, due to its high speed and decent coverage. I usually start off with a Volt Switch unless I'm dealing with something silly like a Ground-type, which gets Hidden Power Iced if it's Landorus or Gliscor or I just switch to Celebi.

Dolph Ziggler (Celebi) @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- U-turn
- Recover
- Leaf Storm
- Earth Power

Celebi helps me take care of a lot of rain Pokemon, Breloom, and Ferrothorn Leech Seeds. Most people assume Celebi is a supporter so this kinda has an element of surprise to it. Leaf Storm hits most things really hard, aside from Ferrothorn, which usually gets the following...

CM Punk (Infernape) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Mach Punch
- U-turn
- Overheat
- Close Combat

Takes care of Ferrothorn for me, and covers a lot of what Celebi can't, such as Balloon Heatran, Blissey. Mach Punch is some much needed priority in case I idiotically let something set up and need to end a sweep. Most people think it's Choiced so that works in my favor.

Christian (Starmie) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin
- Trick

Rapid Spin is absolutely necessary in such a grounded Volt Turn team, and this guy is used as a revenge killer. It can also cripple Vaporeon who likes to troll my team or other walls.

Daniel Bryan (Jirachi) @ Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 240 HP / 224 SDef / 44 Spd
Careful Nature
- U-turn
- Body Slam
- Iron Head
- Wish

Named after the best wrestler in the world, it is my special wall. Takes good care of silly Tornadus and Thundurus that overestimate their Heat Waves and Thunders. Cripples Latias and other silly things with a little luck, and Wish Passes. Very integral in my team, as it serves as a pivot. YES! YES! YES!

Triple H (Landorus-Therian) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 136 HP / 228 Atk / 144 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn

This is, in my opinion, the best Landorus-T set, as it can set up and provide an offensive presence. Takes care of Scizor and Tyranitar decently enough, and fighters. It's very good at what it does because Spinners that are bold enough to switch in eat an Earthquake almost as strong as Groudon's, or get U-turned to an appropriate counter.

General Threat List

Rain teams

Very easily taken care of. Celebi takes STAB Water attacks decently, Thundurus pretty much OHKOs every water except Gastrodon, which Celebi takes care of.

Sun teams

Mild Problems, usually relies on me playing around with switches and Thundurus eliminating most of the opponents.

Sand teams

Landorus is a good check, as is Jirachi.

Opposing Volt Turns

Thundurus Volt Absorb blocks Volt Switches. Depends on the teams of course.
