Ditto is used for its phenomenal ability to transform into strong opposing Pokemon, which is invaluable in a format with Restricted Pokemon, giving you access to an extra extremely powerful Pokemon. Ditto is a good late-game cleaner that likes copying Pokemon such as Calyrex-S and Miraidon, since it outspeeds and threatens an OHKO onto both of them. Choice Scarf is used to allow Ditto to outspeed the Pokemon it transforms into, giving Ditto the advantage while fighting it. Tera Ghost is used to give Ditto an immunity to Fake Out, which can severely hinder its momentum.

Terapagos can be an issue for Ditto, since if Terapagos Terastallizes, Imposter will not work, and Terapagos will OHKO it. Ditto also struggles with Pokemon that can slow its momentum, such as Rillaboom and Incineroar with the aforementioned Fake Out and Amoonguss with Spore and Rage Powder. Fighting-types, such as Iron Hands and the Urshifu formes, can help against Incineroar and Terapagos, and Ice-types, such as Chien-Pao and Calyrex-I, can help against Amoonguss and Rillaboom. Incineroar and Amoonguss are also good partners for Ditto, as they help it get attacks off with Spore, Rage Powder, and Fake Out support. The aforementioned Urshifu-R, Iron Hands, and Incineroar can help Ditto position itself and transform into the ideal foe with U-Turn, Volt Switch, and Parting Shot respectively.
