[SET]
Dragon Dance (Dragonite) @ Life Orb / Sharp Beak / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Aerilate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake / Low Kick
- Roost
[SET COMMENTS]
Dragonite is a potent revenge killer, able to OHKO fast offensive threats like Iron Moth and Ogerpon-H with unboosted Extreme Speed thanks to its high Attack and Aerilate. Earthquake easily threatens almost everything that resists Extreme Speed, able to reliably OHKO Heatran and non-Earth Eater Empoleon, as well as hitting Gholdengo and Azelf, while Low Kick can be run instead to OHKO Hisuian Goodra and 2HKO Garganacl, as well as hitting Steel-types with Earth Eater. Dragon Dance skyrockets Dragonite's offensive potency, allowing it to OHKO Zamazenta-C with Earthquake as well as 2HKO Regenerator Manaphy and defensive Garchomp sets with Extreme Speed at +1. Investing in HP gives Dragonite some bulk to set up more safely, and it doesn't need Speed investment due to its primary method of dealing damage being a priority move. Life Orb increases Dragonite's power across the board in exchange for dealing recoil damage, while Sharp Beak powers up Extreme Speed slightly less in exchange for better longevity and less damage with Low Kick and Earthquake; alternatively, Dragonite can run Heavy-Duty Boots to repeatedly switch in without worrying about chip damage from Stealth Rock. Dragonite struggles against dedicated physical walls like Intimidate Corviknight, Fluffy Zapdos, and Unaware Scream Tail, so it appreciates teammates like Iron Moth and Chien-Pao that can remove them. Psychic Surge Azelf is particularly threatening to Dragonite, blocking Extreme Speed and outspeeding +2 Dragonite with Choice Scarf, so dedicated counters like Greninja and Weavile are a must. Additionally, if not running Heavy-Duty Boots, entry hazard removers like Corviknight and Great Tusk are needed to keep Dragonite healthy through repeated switches. Dragonite also benefits from hazard setters like Garchomp and Heatran wearing down the opposing team and making them easier to sweep through. Bulky pivots like Corviknight and Empoleon that can safely bring Dragonite onto the field without it taking damage are also highly appreciated.
