This used to have a dumb title now it's called this: "Raticate discussion"

Ok... bad name. This thing was NU in Emerald due to bad attack and speed, which Swellow just outclasses it. Now it got a move that Swellow don't:Swords Dance. It will going to be used now?????I don't think so, unfortunately...

Notable Support Movepool
Swords Dance(yay!)
Counter

Swagger
Focus Energy

Good one,huh?

Name:Get out!!Me first!!
Nature:Jolly
Evs:You decide(just put the right hp amount)

Item:Salac Berry
Thunder Wave/Quick Attack
Endeavor
Substitute
Reversal

Super novelty, but it can work. Sub to see what your enemy is going to use, then TW(or sub again). If you get to 1 hp ,Endeavor it, QA for the win(or Reversal if you think you can OHKO). Next poke..Reversal if you think you can OHKO, Endeavor if you think the enemy will resist.

Name:ATTACK!!!!!!!!
Nature:Adamant
Evs:252 attack, 252 speed, 6 hp
Trait:Guts
Item:Burn Orb
Swords Dance
Facade
Flame Wheel/Protect
Crunch/Sucker Punch

Ha!! Swords Dance is what Swellow can't do! Set it up and attack like mad!1! Ninjask support works here(Jolteon/Zapdos too) to pass speed.Jolteon can pass Wish too. Swords Dance + Facade =ouch!!!! Well, if you're going to pass speed, Ursaring is WAY better. Consider Raticate between the two:it gets SD, but doesnt have too much attack like Ursaring. Bur its somewhat fast, something that Ursaring don't, but not so much speed as Swellow, that can't SD. Get it? This rat is like a mix of the two, but with below stats where they are good at.

Name:Novelty, here we go!!!
Nature:Timid
Evs: 252 speed, 252 sp.attack
Trait:whatever
Item:Salac Berry
Thunderbolt/Charge Beam
Ice Beam
Grass Knot
Shadow Ball

GOOD luck.

Other options:Screech + Pursuit is a good combo. with Guts and SD, it can be deadly.Super Fang is always useful,U-Turn too. Pluck can own for you(it can do some damage to fighting pokes with a berry).Me first maybe can own for you too.

My thoughts: The D/P generation made it WAY better than it was in the R/S/E. For me, good enough to jump of NU for UU and be one of the best among them. It can be played in OU too, but, really, good luck set it up.

DISCUSS THAT BIG TEETH RAT.

For your first set, Subbing should nullify your Focus Sash by putting you below 100% health; you would have to run Protect if you wanted to scout.

Anyway, Raticate is horribly outclassed by other normal types that can do any job he can much better (Scrappy Kanga with Sucker Punch for Endeavor sets, Ursaring for Guts boost, and then Tauros has better stats everywhere but Sp. Attack). Super Fang and Me First are the two things he has going for him that separate him from the pack; If I had to run a set, I would probably go for something like:

Raticate @ Focus Sash
252 Att, 252 Speed, Jolly

Super Fang
Me First
Endeavor
Sucker Punch

Full priority set. Super Fang your first victim if you're faster than him, then Me First for the kill; otherwise, use Endeavor and Sucker Punch. Sadly, a single kill will likely be all this Raticate will ever get, but it's probably more than the rat deserves. Can't really be switched in on anything, so it's reserved as a revenge killer.

You could also try Swords Dance + Last Resort, as Raticate is the only one with that combination and STAB (giving you a 195 BP normal move), but it would only be good as a gimmick due to being completely shut down by normal-resistors and ghost types.

Facade is sronger with a orb and guts than Last Resort. But its a idea.

DISCUSS THAT BIG TEETH RAT.

Thats not going to work like you think it will. If you Sub, Focus Sash is then rendered useless (it only works from FULL health). Furthermore, Me First does not have a priority modifier. If you are slower than the opponent, it does nothing.

Well... i´ll edit then.

CS rat is funny, nothing like me firsting a specsmence's draco meteor and critting, I don't think it has the speed to reflect a brick break from weavile though, even scarfed.

Of course it has enough speed to outspeed a Weavile with a Choice Scarf. It can reach over 300 speed even without a scarf.
