Felixx

I'm back.
Great work, the great number of submissions were a nice surprise, but anyways, here’s the part where I give my thoughts on some of the submissions…

Highlights

Threat of the Week: Victini

: I think this mon is really cool and underrated, especially since it's a great Tapu Lele switch-in for Offense, and if you can predict well you can break down a lot of defensive cores. 3 different viable sets also means a good amount of viability. wadusher

: Shoutouts to the Stone Edge M-Pinsir submission from Flame from Heaven, I used to run that a few months ago when Zapdos was still popping, good lure shit.

Not Archived

: Cloyster Flame from Heaven

We clearly need better Shell Smashers, or maybe not, cuz that might be broken and ruin our tier.

: Necrozma BackAtYouBro

Ya know I actually want to put Necrozma in the archives, but it's like worse M-Latias or Reuniclus, cool mon when you think about it, but unfortunately outclassed.

For this week you'll be breaking a Regenerator core of Tangrowth and Tornadus-T, as usual you guys have 7 days to get your submissions in, afterwards I'll be checking the thread and archiving the viable mons, and giving my thoughts on them.
Week 18 Core: Tangrowth + Tornadus-Therian

Tangrowth (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Grass Knot
- Knock Off
- Sludge Bomb
- Earthquake

Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 232 HP / 108 Def / 168 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Knock Off
- Taunt
- Defog

  • For this week we have a sturdy Regen core in Tangrowth + Tornadus-T, Tangrowth is running the standard AV set with Grass Knot > Giga Drain for Weakness Policy Zygarde and Sludge Bomb > HP Ice, this moveset change shouldn't affect too much however. Tornadus is running a Rocky Helmet set with optimized EVs, its HP reaches a number (357) that is divisible by 3, meaning it restores slightly more with Regen, and the speed investment is for base 110s such as M-Latios and M-Latias.
  • Try to post only OU viable Pokémon and don't post sets specifically for this core, additionally your threat should not be complete deadweight against teams that do not feature the core of Tangrowth + Tornadus. Everyone have a good day!
  • Also, if you want to recommend a core to do next week, pm me the core with the sets (don't flood the thread). Just make sure we haven't done the core already, so check the archives. Also check out my RMT in my signature, it's a really anti-fat type of team so check it out if you need one of those in your teambuilder.

I'll be doing this "Song of the Week" stuff from now on, basically I choose a certain artist and showcase some of their work. Heads up though, I mostly listen to Hip Hop and Rap, so this may not be for you. Anyways, I'll be showcasing a chill track from Cardi B featuring Chance the Rapper...

Weavile @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard
- Pursuit

This core is often used with Toxapex to take on Ice-types, but thanks to Weavile's access to STAB Knock Off it can properly harass this core once it's in safely.

Mamoswine @ Metronome / Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off / Stealth Rock
Mamoswine outspeeds Tangrowth and threatens it with Icicle Crash, and Tornadus-T can be threatened with Ice Shard. Mamoswine can also take a Hurricane in an emergency.

Both Kyurem Bee sets OHKO or 2HKO both Pokémon on the core in question. Even if Hurricane hits twice (49%) it isn’t enough to 2HKO my boi Kyurem Bee. And Tang can’t do shit, Z-move Kyurem Bee don’t even care about Knock Off.

LO Protean Greninja

Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Ice Beam
- Extrasensory
- Gunk Shot
- Hidden Power Fire

LO Protean Gren can almost guarantee an OHKO on Bulky Torn-T and really doesn't fear anything AV Tangrowth can do to it. It can even lure AV Tangrowth if the opponent thinks you are Ash-Greninja.

Offensive Calcs
252 SpA Life Orb Protean Greninja Ice Beam vs. 234 HP / 0 SpD Tornadus-Therian: 354-421 (99.1 - 117.9%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Greninja Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth: 237-281 (58.6 - 69.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Defensive Calcs
0 SpA Tangrowth Grass Knot (60 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Greninja after using Ice Beam: 103-123 (36.1 - 43.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Aerodactyl @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Aerial Ace
- Ice Fang
- Roost / Fire Fang / Earthquake

Aero is an underrated mon in my opinion - any solid Heatran check with consistent recovery, a speed tier this good and a movepool this expansive has to be at least decent right? Anyway, Aero comes in literally any move either mon can go for and 2HKOs Tangrowth with Aerial Ace and OHKOing Tornadus-T with Stone Edge.

0 SpA Tangrowth Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Aerodactyl-Mega: 99-117 (32.8 - 38.8%) -- 99.3% chance to 3HKO
0 SpA Tornadus-Therian Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Aerodactyl-Mega: 67-79 (22.2 - 26.2%) -- 10.1% chance to 4HKO

252 Atk Tough Claws Aerodactyl-Mega Aerial Ace vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 218-258 (53.9 - 63.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Aerodactyl-Mega Stone Edge vs. 232 HP / 108 Def Tornadus-Therian: 356-420 (99.7 - 117.6%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

Make A Wish Foundation (Jirachi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Iron Head
- Body Slam
- Toxic

Jirachi as an offensive rocker baby. Torn T cannot beat Jirachi without Heat Wave and really doesn’t like getting parahaxed by a Body Slam. Since Tangrowth has no reliable recovery, Toxic severly cripples it and then you can spam Iron Head because Serene Grace RNG is a bitch. Torn-T also despises getting poisoned. Even without any Def investment, Jirachi still has quite a bit of natural bulk.

0 Atk Tangrowth Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Jirachi: 146-172 (42.8 - 50.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

0- Atk Tornadus-Therian Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Jirachi: 126-150 (36.9 - 43.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Hope you Iron Head your way to victory!

Reserving Z Bounce Gyarados.

Gyarados @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Bounce
- Substitute / Earthquake / Filler

The core can't do anything to Gyarados. Because of this, the ultra-karp always get a free Dragon Dance and start to wreck havoc.

0 SpA Tornadus-Therian Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Gyarados: 127-151 (38.3 - 45.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 SpA Tangrowth Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Gyarados: 139-165 (41.9 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

+1 252 Atk Gyarados Supersonic Skystrike (160 BP) vs. 232 HP / 108 Def Tornadus-Therian: 403-475 (112.8 - 133%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252 Atk Gyarados Waterfall vs. 232 HP / 108 Def Tornadus-Therian: 202-238 (56.5 - 66.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 252 Atk Gyarados Supersonic Skystrike (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 28 Def Tangrowth: 612-722 (151.4 - 178.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Gyarados Bounce vs. 252 HP / 28 Def Tangrowth: 438-516 (108.4 - 127.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Zapdos @ Leftovers / Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure / Static
EVs: 248 HP / 236 Def / 24 Spe
Bold Nature
- Discharge
- Heat Wave
- Defog / Hidden Power Ice / Toxic
- Roost

Wallbirb is here to do what wallbirb does best. With Tangrowth dropping HP Ice, this core's hardest-hitting attack does less than a quarter to Dos, while it 1-2HKOs Torn and 3-4HKOs or Toxics Tang in return. Sludge Bomb poisons are still annoying, but AV Tang lacks the immediate recovery and Fire neutrality of my Mega Venusaur nom from the last round, so Dos will always come out on top of this one.

0 SpA Tornadus-Therian Hurricane vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Zapdos: 70-83 (18.2 - 21.6%) -- possible 5HKO
0 SpA Zapdos Discharge vs. 232 HP / 0 SpD Tornadus-Therian: 228-270 (63.8 - 75.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock)

0 SpA Tangrowth Sludge Bomb vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Zapdos: 77-91 (20.1 - 23.7%) -- guaranteed 5HKO (guaranteed 4HKO after poison damage)
0 SpA Zapdos Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth: 120-142 (29.7 - 35.1%) -- 16.6% chance to 3HKO (guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock)

Since both members pack Knock Off, all calcs are without Lefties.

Z fly koko

Tapu Koko @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Wild Charge
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- U-turn

252 Atk Tapu Koko Wild Charge vs. 232 HP / 108 Def Tornadus-Therian in Electric Terrain: 428-506 (119.8 - 141.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO (obviously)
252 Atk Tapu Koko Supersonic Skystrike (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 312-368 (77.2 - 91%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock which means if tangrowth isn't full he can't in safely and
252 Atk Tapu Koko U-turn vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 116-138 (28.7 - 34.1%) with rocks he don't recover on koko
Moreover, if koko is high enought it can endure :
0 SpA Tangrowth Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Koko: 180-212 (64 - 75.4%)

Obviously koko needs roost here in the filler slot cuz he is suppose to beat a regecore so you can't afford losing it to recoil (It allows you not to lose it to recoil even without facing double regenerator)

Banded Staraptor

Staraptor @ Choice Band
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Double-Edge
- U-turn
- Close Combat

Choice Band Staraptor needs Defog support to be properly used + Magnezone to get rid of annoying bulky Steels that may stop this thing, according to the dex (so this thing is legit).

Defensive calcs:
0 SpA Tangrowth Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Staraptor: 107-126 (34.4 - 40.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 Atk Tangrowth Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Staraptor: 63-75 (20.2 - 24.1%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
0 SpA Tangrowth Grass Knot (40 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Staraptor: 36-42 (11.5 - 13.5%) -- possible 8HKO

0 SpA Tornadus-Therian Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Staraptor: 195-229 (62.7 - 73.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Tangrowth Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Staraptor: 63-75 (20.2 - 24.1%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

Staraptor doesn't really like to switch into Sludge Bomb or into Knock Off users, but if necessary, it can even do this. Hurricane takes a huge chunck of HP, but the accuracy is always a issue for a Tornadus-T without the Flyinium Z.

Offensive calcs:
252 Atk Choice Band Reckless Staraptor Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 548-648 (135.6 - 160.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Reckless Staraptor Brave Bird/Double Edge vs. 232 HP / 108 Def Tornadus-Therian: 352-415 (98.5 - 116.2%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Reckless Staraptor Brave Bird vs. 232 HP / 108 Def Tornadus-Therian: 352-415 (98.5 - 116.2%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Reckless Staraptor Double-Edge vs. 248 HP / 240+ Def Zapdos: 270-318 (70.4 - 83%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
-1 252 Atk Choice Band Reckless Staraptor Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Landorus-Therian: 241-285 (75.5 - 89.3%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Choice Banded Staraptor is very effective as a wallbreaker thanks to high-base power STABs + Reckless, although its lifespan is short. It is not a problem because Staraptor's job is to weaken or outright OHKO one or two threats.

Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

Mawile @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch
- Knock Off

With Torn-T not having Heat Wave, Mega Mawile can switch into it easily enough and chow down, either dealing massive damage with Play Rough or removing Torn-T's helmet to prevent it from putting passive pressure on MMaw's teammates. Meanwhile, it can come in on any move of Tangrowth's except EQ with ease, and Play Rough 2HKOs unboosted or OHKOs boosted. Knock Off also makes it hard for Tangrowth to properly check the special attackers it's supposed to. Any Mega Mawile set with Play Rough does this, but SD is nice for taking advantage of the core.

0 SpA Tornadus-Therian Hurricane vs. 40 HP / 0 SpD Mawile-Mega: 67-79 (26.6 - 31.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
0 Atk Tangrowth Earthquake vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Mawile-Mega: 120-142 (47.8 - 56.5%) -- 84.4% chance to 2HKO (less if Intimidated)
(If you're curious, 176 HP MMaw avoids the 2HKO from Tang. Not endorsing that spread, just noting it.)

252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 28 Def Tangrowth: 223-264 (55.1 - 65.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Play Rough vs. 232 HP / 108 Def Tornadus-Therian: 294-346 (82.3 - 96.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

Zard Y outspeeds Tangrowth and can hit both Tornadus-T and Tangrowth hard with a sun boosted STAB Flamethrower. Tornadus-T main move to hit CharY is Hurricane, which has only 50% accuracy in the sun, which helps Zard Y.

Highlights

Threat of the Week: M-Aerodactyl

: I like this mon. I like this mon a lot, and it's really underrated and definitely does not deserve to be in C- with dogshit like Azelf and Nihilego, like this thing has an actual offensive presence, can switch-in to to stuff like Heatran, Torn, and Gliscor, force them all out, AND, keep itself healthy with Roost if you choose to run it. Also it's pretty difficult to wall considering it has coverage for pretty much everything, Clef and Reuni are probably the only good switch-ins and for those you can run Taunt, since Gastro takes a fuckton from Wing Attack, meaning it just loses momentum, and M-Scizor and Ferrothorn need to scout for Fire Fang. Someone raise this thing to at least C on the VR, give it justice. mellowyellowhd

: This is actually a lure set, but it's fine, at least it's an okay lure set. Also Zeraora exists now to give this set some competition, but I'm still not convinced it will actually be an important part of the metagame. Heika

Not Archived

: Toxic is hard to fit on Jirachi, and no recovery + having to take Knock Offs from both members of the core reduces Jirachi's longevity in the long run. Tangrowth's EQ + Tornadus running Rocky Helmet only exaggerates the longevity problem. BackAtYouBro

: 0 SpA Tornadus-Therian Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Staraptor: 193-228 (62 - 73.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Brave Bird 98.5 - 116.2% (37.8 - 37.8% recoil damage) + Rocky Helmet,
I mean, you only need to hit Hurricane once, so it's not like you're asking for a lot. Also people need to notice Staraptor is actually like M-Medi, only 100 base speed, hits like a truck, is frail as shit and has little if any defensive utility, but still works, stop underrating these mons lol. nameless90

: I make a lot of exceptions in this thread but offensive Celesteela is just bad for multiple reasons, and just isn't consistent enough or provides enough of a "unique niche" for me to consider viable. POP Arthur21

Week 19 Core: Reuniclus + Weavile

Reuniclus (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Energy Ball
- Recover

Weavile (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard
- Pursuit

  • The core we're doing this week is essentially, "Broken Mon + Broken Trapper Mon", so it's like this gen's Keldeo + Ttar. Anyways basically Reuniclus has a good match-up versus Balance and sets-up on a lot of the various staples to the Balance archetype, while Weavile has a good match-up versus offensive builds, and is able to Knock Off Heatran so Reuniclus, even without Focus Blast, is able to break past it by spamming Psyshocks and slowly chipping it. Also, Weavile is able to pursuit trap certain annoyances to Reuniclus, such as CM M-Latias and Hoopa-U, while also forcing out Tapu Bulu and SD Gliscor that can attempt to overpower it or put it in range of more attacks. Now, get to core breaking!
  • Try to post only OU viable Pokémon and don't post sets specifically for this core, additionally your threat should not be complete deadweight against teams that do not feature the core of Reuniclus + Weavile. Everyone have a good day!
  • Also thanks to Jordy for passing some cores including this one, if anyone wants to pass me a core just pm me the cores + the sets, but check the archives first to see if we've done the core already in the past.
  • You can post Zeraora now btw.

The song of the week this time around is a track from Ty Dolla $ign, featuring Gucci Mane and Quavo. The track comes from Ty Dolla $ign's Beach House 3 Deluxe, the regular album was released last year in October, but the Deluxe version released on May 11, and Pineapple was one of those six additional tracks.

EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 16 SpD
Impish Nature
- Curse / Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- Knock Off / U-turn

Mega Scizor can easily boost alongside Reuniclus thanks to its typing and bulk. It can also switch into Weavile really easily thanks to the reduced damage from Knock Off with its mega stone, and resistance to Ice. Its typing allows it to threaten both very easily.

Bisharp

Bisharp @ Darkinium Z
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance

Defensive calcs:
0 SpA Reuniclus Energy Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Bisharp: 52-62 (19.1 - 22.8%) -- possible 5HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Bisharp: 75-89 (27.6 - 32.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Icicle Crash vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Bisharp: 98-116 (36.1 - 42.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Ice Shard/Pursuit vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Bisharp: 46-55 (16.9 - 20.2%) -- possible 5HKO

Bisharp can easily enter into Reuniclus; if the 10% chance SpD drop from Energy Ball happens,, Bisharp will receive a +2 Atk boost that makes all simple.
The best attack that CB Weavile can throw at Bisharp's face is Icicle Crash, but only if flinches two times and if hits. Keep in mind that Weavile's Ice Shard makes Sucker Punch useless, because the former priority move is faster than the latter.

Offensive calcs:
252+ Atk Bisharp Black Hole Eclipse (120 BP) vs. 248 HP / 216+ Def Reuniclus: 374-444 (88.4 - 104.9%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Bisharp Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Weavile: 398-470 (141.6 - 167.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Bisharp almost OHKO Reuniclus and a small amount of damage is needed to ensure the KO, but it is really likely to happen because Reuniclus is really slow and prone to be worn down.
Weavile is sent into oblivion by an Iron Head.

Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 168 HP / 252 Atk / 88 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Fire Punch/ Ice Punch/ Crunch

Mega Tyranitar can pose a big threat do this core as it is able to eat up most attacks thrown at him, while retaliating with strong Edges or playing mind-games with pursuit.
It can avoid the 2HKO from every of the cores attack. Only an Icicle Crash after Hazards combined with the flinch chance and the miss chance of Stone Edge can let Weavile beat TTar (Or Low Kick).

252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Icicle Crash vs. 168 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar-Mega: 138-163 (36 - 42.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Since Reuni only seldomly runs Focus Miss these days to have a reliable way of hitting Sableye while still hitting most FB-Targets, TTar can munch every of Reuniclus' attacks and either try to put it in pursuit range or immediately forcing the 50/50. Dealing with Reuniclus can be much easier when running Crunch thats why its slashed.

0 SpA Reuniclus Energy Ball vs. 168 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar-Mega in Sand: 90-108 (23.4 - 28.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Tyranitar-Mega Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Reuniclus: 193-228 (45.5 - 53.7%) -- 2.3% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Tyranitar-Mega Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Reuniclus on a critical hit: 289-342 (68.1 - 80.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Tyranitar-Mega Crunch vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Reuniclus: 308-366 (72.6 - 86.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

If the Reuniclus is Grassy Seed with Energy Ball it gets a lot trickier as it is easier for Reuniclus to eat TTars hits and possibly beating it unless it actually runs Crunch. Furthermore the Energy Ball will do more damage therefore making it easier for Reuni to actually beat TTar.
