So, I hit up the EBgames in my local mall in EB, NJ, today, not knowing what to expect. Arrive there at 1:50, and find signs posted saying the tournament doesn't start till three. So I run over to the Barnes and Noble, pick up the new
hot history book of the day
kill some time reading it, and then go back. By then, 20 people, including me, have signed up for the tournament. No Smogon'ers there, but a couple of people know EVs.
So I boot up my DS, and get my pokemon ready. Note that I was expecting 2 v 2 ubers @ four pokemon, with sleep and freeze clause so I had the three below plus Palkia. Having just obtained the Ubers recently (last night off of some Wifi trades in Serebii/Marriland), I didn't have time to EV train. When I get there, it turns out to be 3 v 3 singles, no clauses. =(

as backups.
My biggest threats are Sam, who knows about IVs and EVs, trained them, and breeds. He has logged 520 game hours. =X
Joseph is also a huge threat. He swept entire teams up until the finals with paraflinch togekiss. =(
First Round
flashfox vs Hans
Hans freaked me out. I didn't know who he was, but I was talking to my friend Sam about strategy the entire time, and this Hans kid was behind me the entire time, taking notes and listening to what I said. So I was really freaked out.
I lead with a CSKyogre, and he leads with Palkia. Four thunders later (and a lot of parahaxing), Palkia finally manages to die. Hans then decides to send in Lanturn. Switching Manaphy in, I rest off damage, tail glow twice, rest off damage, as he hits me with repeated discharges. Finally, I'm confident enough to Grass Knot him, getting some damage on him. He then crits me, with Discharge, and Manaphy dies. Mewtwo comes in and psychics him to death. Infernape then comes in and eats a Psychic from Mewtwo.
Round Two
It turns out, Hans has a little brother. Guess who I'm facing. =(
Yep, Hans' little bro. Same three I have from last time, but this team, I'm facing a Kyogre, something I don't remember, and a Giratina . CS makes sure that I kill his Kyogre first with Thunder. In comes Giratina, and I thunder for parahax. He gets paralyzed and thus is fully paralyzed on two shadow force attacking turns. Feeling cocky, I let my PP run out, and Kyogre suffers a struggle death. I then switch in Manaphy quickly tail glow twice, and surf finishes off Giratina and the other pokemon in question.
Round Three
Dean. Dean has two Rayquaza's and an Electivire. Seeing that, I broke with my usual strategy, and picked Electivire over Mewtwo. I lead with CS Kyogre, and Dean yells "Too bad I have Thunder". Laughing, I switched Electivire in, and get a motor drive boost. I predict Rayquaza and ice punch, but Electivire stays in and Thunderbolts me. WTF. Well, I then EQ him. He brings in Rayquaza, I Ice Punch and he dies. The second Rayquaza survives and Dragon Claws me, doing 75% damage. But whatever, I kill him the next turn.
Round Robin Final
What happened was, 20 became 10 became 5, and my friend Sam (see above) got a bye, while I faced Dean and Joseph (Other guy who EV trained and stuff) beat his guy.
So, first up was Joseph vs Sam. Joseph owns the crap out Sam's Mewtwo, since it survived Mewtwo's opening assault of Psychic and proceeds to para him with Thunder Wave. Togekiss then Air Slashes Mewtwo, and Mewtwo flinches 4 times in a row, dying.
Sam then sends in Garchomp, and Dragon Claws Togekiss to death.
Joseph sends out Latios, and survives Garchomp's Dragon claw to dragon claw Garchomp back, but they both don't kill. Garchomp kills Latios because of speed, and then Earthquakes Dialga for the win.
Next, I'm up against Sam. He sends out Mewtwo, I send out Weavile. He aura sphere's me, and take damage from life orb. I survive with Focus Sash, and Night Slash him back, bringing him to around 20% HP. The remaining hp of his falls due to ice shard.
Sam then sends out his Porygon-z. He yells "I have a Choice Scarf". Fearing for my life, I send Weavile scurrying back inside his pokeball in favor of Bronzong. He tri attacks me, and I shrug it off. I set up stealth rock, and then he thunderbolts me. At this point, I'm pissed. It turns out he doesn't have choice scarf. Well, I hypnosis him. Sam counters by sending out Garchomp. Garchomp sets up a substitute, and I explode, breaking the sub but not killing Garchomp.
I send out my CSKyogre. He goes first and Earthquakes me, I counter with ice beam, but he still isn't dead. The next turn, I go first, and I kill him with ice beam. Weird (Note, no QC animation, and Garchomp was holding lefties anyway). He sends out his sleeping porygon-z, and I finish him off with ice beam.
Now, I'm against Joseph. He knows that I've been taking notes as to how to counter his pokemon. I realized how good Garchomp is against him, so I packed one. Game start!
Joseph sends out Latios, and I send out Garchomp. Outrage kills him quickly. His next pokemon is Infernape. Infernape survives the initial outrage to close combat me. Outrage kills him on the next turn. Garchomp now is confused. He then sends out his togekiss. I knew that he wasn't going to paralyze me, so I switched into CS Kyogre. He uselessly air slashes me, and I thunder him for the win.
Final score: flashfox 3, joseph 0.
Final Tournament Score: 5 wins, 0 losses.
Winning Prize: PBR, 5 gaming magazines, WoW pins and badges, Shounen Jump, and a PBR poster. I gave away the shirt to some kid.
