The introduction of Thwackey's hidden ability Grassy Surge and the new attack Grassy Glide expanded Thwackey's role as a Swords Dance wallbreaker to a priority sweeper. This is thanks to Grassy Glide threatening faster threats like Rotom, while Thwackey finds opportunity to use Swords Dance on passive Pokemon like Clefairy and Ferroseed. Drain Punch hits Normal- and Steel- types like Kangaskhan and Ferroseed very hard after a Swords Dance boost and furthering Thwackey's recovery. Knock Off offers coverage to hit Ghost- types like Gourgeist-Small and Decidueye and the ability to click a safe option to remove the items and weaken the opponent, Knock off can also remove Clefairy's Eviolite to crippple it. Alternatively, Thwackey can run Grassy Seed Acrobatics to help against Toxicroak and to hit other Thwackeys, but overall Grassy Seed is one time use and most of the time Thwackey is switching making Grassy Seed inconsistent.
The effects of Grassy Surge stay even after Thwackey faints or switches out, so plan teammates accordingly to benefit from its effects. Stealth Rocks users like Galarian Stunfisk and Sandaconda each give their own benefits to help Thwackey cripple the opponent. Galarian Stunfisk adores Grassy Terrain that allows Galarian Stunfisk to become a Grass type thanks to Mimicry while providing Stealth Rocks and check Water- types better thanks to better bulk and can use Yawn to force switches and give Thwackey a free switch in. Sandaconda is faster, pairs well with Thwackey to give Sandaconda better recovery as Sandaconda can use Glare to Paralyze faster foes. Thwackey can punish Special walls like Lanturn and Clefairy, so Toxicroak is a great partner, with Grassy Terrain weakening Earthquake and help negate or if not lessen the damage taken from Life Orb. Lanturn makes a good cleric for Thwackey as Thwackey hates status and Lanturn can provide a slow Pivot into Thwackey. Unburden users like Thievul can take full advantage of the automatic Grassy Terrain to use its own Grassy Seed to boost Thievuls defense and set up a Nasty Plot much easier and gaining residual recovery.
