DCL Champion
**Draft Order**: Round 7 onwards

**Price Range**: 2-3 points

**Overview**: Thwackey is a very strong budget Grass-type. For just a couple of points, it effectively takes Water- and Ground-type attacks, provides Terrain support, and packs strong priority. Many Unburden Pokemon appreciate Terrain, and a lot of Pokemon generally just appreciate the Grassy Terrain recovery. However, Thwackey can't do all of this at once. Its middling base stats force it to invest in any stats it wants to properly use. Also, it suffers the same issues of many other cheap Grass-types with plenty of weaknesses.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Pivot**: Thwackey can utilize strong support moves like Leech Seed and U-turn to pivot into foes that it resists, setting Grassy Terrain in the process to support its teammates. It can serve as a defensive pivot or even a fast pivot with Choice Scarf.

**Wallbreaker**: Thwackey can utilize Terrain to get the boost it needs to wallbreak. Grassy Terrain, a damage-boosting item, and setup can all help it threaten good damage, and Grassy Glide can help pick foes off and get off an extra hit before going down.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Grassy Glide, Wood Hammer

**Setup Moves**: Swords Dance

**Utility Moves**: U-turn, Leech Seed, Taunt, Substitute

**Coverage**: Knock Off, Drain Punch, Low Kick, Acrobatics

Niche Moves
========
**Endeavor**: Endeavor is a decent option to land a surprising amount of damage against foes that resist Thwackey's attacks. Its middling HP stat helps it do more damage a lot of the time as well. It can usually tank a hit with an Eviolite, allowing it to use Endeavor more often.

Common Items
========
**Eviolite**: Any defensive Thwackey set should pretty much always run Eviolite. The boost in its defenses is essential to its pivoting, giving it significant bulk. Offensive sets such as Swords Dance can also utilize Eviolite to set up more effectively.

**Choice Band**: Choice Band gives Thwackey respectable damage as a wallbreaker, and the damage boosting is often necessary for Grassy Glide to net revenge kills.

Niche Items
========
**Damage-boosting items**: Items such as Life Orb and Miracle Seed can be used on wallbreaking sets if both damage boosting and switching moves is needed.

**Grassy Seed**: Grassy Seed is primarily useful when paired with Acrobatics or if Knock Off is anticipated. Otherwise, Eviolite is much more consistent.

**Terrain Extender**: Terrain Extender can be useful if a team is very reliant on Terrain. It gives bulky teammates further recovery and Unburden users more time to hit the field.

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf allows Thwackey to serve as a fast pivot and potentially revenge kill foes with Wood Hammer and other coverage moves.

Tera
========
Thwackey does not need Tera nearly as much as its teammates. It should only be considered as a Tera Captain when paired with a high-price Captain and when options for a second Captain are limited. If this is the case, it should often use Tera Grass to boost its Grass-type moves even further. Offensive types may include Tera Fire, Rock, and Electric to let Thwackey hit foes that normally wall it. Defensive types may include Water, Ghost, and Fairy to give it a better defensive typing. Keep in mind that even if it is a Tera Captain, it does not Terastallize often, since it is usually paired with a more expensive primary Tera Captain.

Draft Strategy
========
Thwackey is primarily drafted for its ability to set Grassy Terrain and pivot out for a very cheap price. It also fills the role of a defensive Grass-type, but the Terrain is what makes it significantly better than other options. Its strong priority is also a selling point on teams that want one more revenge killing option late into the draft.

**Unburden Sweepers**: Terrain is often essential for Unburden sweepers to get their Speed boost late-game to sweep. Pokemon such as Sneasler, Hawlucha, and Drifblim all deeply appreciate the Terrain provided by Thwackey.

**Calm Mind Sweepers**: Calm Mind sweepers often appreciate the ability to get an immediate Defense boost with a Grassy Seed as well as the recovery that follows. Pokemon such as Terapagos, Necrozma, and Ursaluna-B all appreciate the Terrain support.

**Bulky Pokemon Without Recovery**: Grassy Terrain is useful in giving teammates without recovery more longevity, including Iron Hands, Raging Bolt, and Archaludon.

Checks and Counters
========
**Flying-types**: The most notable type that Thwackey struggles with is Flying, since it has no way to reliably hit most of them. Many also get U-turn, often shifting the momentum in the opponent's favor. Pokemon such as Tornadus-T, Corviknight, and Mandibuzz are all easily able to take advantage of Thwackey in this way.

**Other Bulky Grass-resistant Pokemon**: Thwackey often has trouble with the many other types that resist Grass due to its lack of damage outside of its STAB moves. They force it to run specific coverage, which often doesn't deal enough damage, and they can easily maintain positive momentum against it. Pokemon such as Gholdengo, Galarian Slowking, and Gouging Fire are all excellent counters.

**Bulky Wallbreakers**: Given its middling base stats, Thwackey often has trouble with high-base stat foes that take its hits well and can easily revenge kill. Pokemon such as Gouging Fire, Baxcalibur, and Iron Hands are all excellent checks for this reason.

**Adverse Contact Effects**: Foes with abilities that trigger on contact moves such as Static and Flame Body are very annoying for Thwackey. Also, if it wants to be using Wood Hammer repeatedly, it becomes very limited by statuses that slow it down or damage it over time. Pokemon such as Zapdos, Moltres, and Talonflame can all annoy Thwackey. Also, most bulky Pokemon can run Rocky Helmet to achieve a similar result.

**Draft Order**: Round 67 onwards

**Price Range**: 2-3 points

**Overview**: Thwackey is a very strong budget grass type. For just a couple of points, you get access to a cheap grass type that can not only serve as a bulky resist, but can also provide terrain support and pack strong priority. Many unburden pokemon appreciate terrain, and a lot of pokemon generally just appreciate the grassy terrain recovery. However, Thwackey can't do all of this at once. Its middling base stats force it to invest EVs in any stats it wants to properly use. Also, it suffers the same issues of many other cheap grass types with plenty of weaknesses. This is very positive for a late-draft budget pick, be realistic about Thwackey's main selling point being terrain + grass-type on a budget and note on what makes it special vs other low tier grasses as well as its issues wanting multiple items and having to choose between being strong, bulky, or fast.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Defensive Pivot**: Thwackey can utilize strong support moves like Leech Seed and U-Turn to pivot into foes that it resists, setting Grassy Terrain in the process to support its teammates. May be better to put 'Pivot' and mark that it can be defensive or scarfed, or add a row with Fast Pivot or Terrain Setter

**Wallbreaker**: Thwackey can also utilize terrain to get the boost it needs to wallbreak. Terrain, a damage boosting item, and setup can all help it threaten good damage, and Grassy Glide can help pick things off and get off an extra hit before going down.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Grassy Glide, Wood Hammer

**Setup Moves**: Swords Dance, Substitute, Trailblaze

**Utility Moves**: U-Turn, Leech Seed, Taunt, Substitute, Protect, Fake Out maybe

**Coverage**: Knock Off, Drain Punch, Low Kick, Acrobatics

Niche Moves
========
**Endeavor**: Endeavor is a decent option to land a surprising amount of damage against an opposing resist. Thwackey's middling HP stat helps it do more damage a lot of the time as well. Could be worth mentioning Endure and/or Custap Berry here as well

**Body Slam**: Body Slam can potentially land a Paralysis, which is nice considering that Thwackey doesn't have good ways to inflict status otherwise. Not sure this is relevant enough to be niche without Serene Grace or STAB

Common Items
========
**Eviolite**: Any defensive Thwackey set should pretty much always run Eviolite. The boost in defenses is essential to Thwackey's pivoting, giving it significant bulk. Offensive sets such as Swords Dance can also utilize Eviolite to get the setup off.

**Choice Band**: Choice Band gives Thwackey respectable damage as a wallbreaker, and the damage boosting is often necessary for Grassy Glide to net revenge kills. Choice Scarf is definitely a common item for Thwackey as well when fast Wood Hammer is better than Grassy Glide

Niche Items
========
**Other dDamage boosting items**: Items such as Life Orb and Miracle Seed can also be used on wallbreaking sets if both damage boosting and switching moves is needed.

**Grassy Seed**: Grassy Seed is primarily useful when paired with Acrobatics or if Knock Off is anticipated. Otherwise, Eviolite is much more consistent. I don't know if just an Acrobatics boost is worth an item that is otherwise just worse than Eviolite, seed is more for its teammates

I think Terrain Extender is also worth a mention at least in Niche for teams with multiple pokemon that rely on terrain like Heatran / Unburden mons etc.

Tera
========
Thwackey does not need Tera nearly as much as its teammates. It should only be considered as a Tera Captain when paired with a high price captain and options for a second captain are limited. If this is the case, it should often use Tera Grass to boost its Grass-type moves even further. Offensive types may include Fire, Rock, and Fighting, and defensive types may include Water, Ghost, and Fairy. Worth elaborating more on why these types are best or only noting ones that flip weaknesses / offer strong coverage etc. All of these can utilize Tera Blast for type coverage. Keep in mind that even if it is a tera captain, it will not often Tera in the battle due to likely being paired with a more expensive primary Tera Captain.

Draft Strategy
========
Thwackey is primarily drafted for its ability to set Grassy Terrain and pivot out for a very cheap price. It also fills the role of a defensive Grass-type Maybe partially but it lacks common tools like Synthesis, Spiky Shield, Stun Spore, and Spore, but the terrain is what makes it significantly better than other options. Its strong priority is also a selling point on teams that want one more revenge killing option late into the draft.

**Unburden sweepers**: Terrain is often essential for unburden sweepers to get their speed boost late game to sweep, and provides a team with an incredibly high top speed, which can help in prep. Reword that last sentence, a bit confusing and redundant. Pokemon such as Sneasler, Hawlucha, and Drifblim all deeply appreciate the Terrain provided by Thwackey.

**Calm Mind Sweepers**: Calm Mind sweepers often appreciate the ability to get an immediate defense boost with a Grassy Seed, as well as the recovery that follows. Pokemon such as Terapagos, Necrozma, and Ursaluna-B all appreciate the terrain support. Probably worth rewording, very similar to last line on Unburden Sweepers

Worth mentioning Teammates with Ground weakness so that you force opponents to run weaker and less accurate moves like High Horsepower, Stomping Tantrum, or Earth Power on physical mons

Checks and Counters
========
**Bulky Resists**: Thwackey often has trouble with opposing grass resists due to its lack of damage outside of its STAB moves. Pokemon such as Tornadus-T, Slowking-G, and Dragonite are all excellent counters.

**Bulky Wallbreakers**: Given its middling base stats, Thwackey often has trouble with high base stat foes that take its hits well and can easily revenge kill. Pokemon such as Gouging Fire, Baxcalibur, and Iron Hands are all excellent checks for this reason.

Thwackey definitely has more counters. Fires and Bugs in general, Pivots (specifically U-Turn users) that can put Thwackey in a bad spot / make it set up fodder, maybe even opposing unburden users banking on using its terrain against it but idk on the last one.

This is an AMQC so it won't go to 1/2 after edits, just offering some advice!

First try at an AMQC so I'm sure others will have better feedback, just thought I'd give my two cents since I've used and like Thwackey a lot.

First try at an AMQC so I'm sure others will have better feedback, just thought I'd give my two cents since I've used and like Thwackey a lot.

I have a few comments regarding the AMQC. Some things I disagree with some things I just wanted to discuss. I am going to wait to make changes until the official QC1, and simply add them in below as comments.
  • In the summary section I feel like my description and your suggestion are pretty much the same. I'm not sure what you wanted me to change there.
  • Whatever QC says about naming the pivot section is fine I just don't really want to add a section just talking about "fast" sets when it's really just its priority. I might mention scarf somewhere but I think it's generally pretty niche on this mon and doesn't constitute an entire role.
  • Trailblaze and protect feel bad on Thwackey. You should just be gliding and you shouldn't stall out your own terrain on purpose.
  • On body slam i kind of agree but I felt like adding one more option to niche. Unsure how I want to handle that. If there are any suggestions I am open to them for that section.
  • I am open to adding choice scarf but i'd put it in niche. Also open to adding terrain extender.
  • I still kind of like the grassy/acro option as it allows Thwackey some nice coverage for breaking. Its teammates can still run seed too lol. If it's too niche I guess that's ok.
  • I do not want to elaborate much on the Tera section since Thwackey isn't realistically going to Tera that much, but I am open to suggestions on how to reword it since it seems a bit disjointed right now.
  • I am not 100% sure if I need to add "ground weak mons" as a reason to draft thwackey since hhp isn't that much weaker than eq and so many mons get it. If other QCs want me to i can add it.
  • I agree that the checks and counters section is sparse for a 2 point mon, I just wasn't sure how to elaborate. I think "fires and bugs" fall under resists to an extent I just wasn't sure how to differentiate that. Opposing unburden seems too niche to include.
  • I think it'd be better if you gave a specific suggestion on how to reword stuff instead of just "reword this" so that I have a better idea of how I can improve my analysis.
Sorry that it's a lot of criticism I just wanted to make sure I got my points across here. Hopefully this helps.

qc 1/2 - checking over xand, my comments are purple
This is probably fine for just needing one qc check but ill take another look after you implement to make sure

**Endeavor**: Endeavor is a decent option to land a surprising amount of damage against an opposing resist. Thwackey's middling HP stat helps it do more damage a lot of the time as well. Kinda awkward with grassy terrain healing but i think its still fine mentioning, probably worth saying that it can usually tank hits with eviolite to reliably do good damage with it

Worth elaborating more on why these types are best or only noting ones that flip weaknesses / offer strong coverage etc. Can reword to something like "Tera Fire, etc gives it needed coverage to hit foes that normally wall it, and Tera Water, etc get rid of its mediocre typing and make it better defensively" All of these can utilize Tera Blast for type coverage. Keep in mind that even if it is a tera captain, it will not often Tera in the battle due to likely being paired with a more expensive primary Tera Captain.

Could mention "Bulky pokemon without recovery" that benefit from grassy terrain healing, maybe too niche though

I'd honestly mention flying types in general, since thwackey basically cant touch them
Also mention contact effects - static/flame body/helmet are really punishing to it

**Overview**: Thwackey is a very strong budget grass type. For just a couple of points, you get access to a cheap grass type that can not only serve as a bulky resist, but can also provide terrain support and pack strong priority. Common Roles
========
**Pivot**: Thwackey can utilize strong support moves like Leech Seed and U-Turn to pivot into foes that it resists, setting Grassy Terrain in the process to support its teammates. It can serve as a defensive pivot or even a fast pivot with Choice Scarf.

**Wallbreaker**: Thwackey can also utilize terrain to get the boost it needs to wallbreak. Terrain, a damage boosting item, and setup can all help it threaten good damage, and Grassy Glide can help pick things off and get off an extra hit before going down.

Common Moves

**Setup Moves**: Swords Dance

**Utility Moves**: U-Turn, Leech Seed, Taunt, Substitute

**Coverage**: Knock Off, Drain Punch, Low Kick, Acrobatics

Niche Moves
========
**Endeavor**: Endeavor is a decent option to land a surprising amount of damage against an opposing resist. Thwackey's middling HP stat helps it do more damage a lot of the time as well. It can usually tank a hit with an eviolite, allowing it to use Endeavor more often.

Common Items
========

Niche Items
========
**Damage boosting items**: Items such as Life Orb and Miracle Seed can also be used on wallbreaking sets if both damage boosting and switching moves is needed.

**Grassy Seed**: Grassy Seed is primarily useful when paired with Acrobatics or if Knock Off is anticipated. Otherwise, Eviolite is much more consistent.

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf allows Thwackey to serve as a fast pivot and to potentially revenge kill with Wood Hammer and other coverage moves.

Tera
========
Thwackey does not need Tera nearly as much as its teammates. It should only be considered as a Tera Captain when paired with a high price captain and options for a second captain are limited. If this is the case, it should often use Tera Grass to boost its Grass-type moves even further. Offensive types may include Fire, Rock, and Electric let Thwackey hit foes that normally wall it. Defensive types may include Water, Ghost, and Fairy to give it a better defensive typing. All of these can utilize Tera Blast for type coverage.

**Bulky Pokemon without Recovery**: Grassy Terrain is also useful in giving teammates without recovery more longevity. Pokemon such as Iron Hands, Raging Bolt, and Archaludon all appreciate

Checks and Counters
========
**Other Bulky Resists**: Thwackey often has trouble with opposing grass resists the many other types that resist Grass due to its lack of damage outside of its STAB moves. They force it to run specific coverage, which often doesn't deal enough damage, and they can easily maintain positive momentum against it. Pokemon such as Gholdengo, Slowking-G, and Dragonite Gouging Fire are all excellent counters. Feel free to put any of this into your own words - I just expanded on it and differentiated it from flying types a bit

**Bulky Wallbreakers**: Given its middling base stats, Thwackey often has trouble with high base stat foes that take its hits well and can easily revenge kill. Pokemon such as Gouging Fire, Baxcalibur, and Iron Hands are all excellent checks for this reason.

**Flying Types**: The most notable type that Thwackey struggles with is definitely flying, having no way to reliably hit many of these foes. Many of them also get U-Turn, often shifting the momentum in the opponent's favor. Pokemon such as Tornadus-T, Corviknight, and Mandibuzz are all easily able to take advantage of Thwackey in this way. Move this to the top

**Adverse contact effects**: Foes with abilities that trigger on contact moves such as Static and Flame Body are very annoying for Thwackey, which often uses these moves. Also, if Thwackey wants to be using Wood Hammer repeatedly, it becomes very limited by statuses that slow it down or damage it over time. Pokemon such as Zapdos, Moltres, and Talonflame can all annoy Thwackey. Also, most bulky pokemon can run Rocky Helmet to achieve a similar result.

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 7 onwards

**Price Range**: 2-3 points

**Overview**: Thwackey is a very strong budget grass type Grass-type. For just a couple of points, you get access to a cheap grass type that can not only serve as a bulky resist it effectively takes Water- and Ground-type attacks, but can also provide terrain provides Terrain support, (AC) and pack packs strong priority. Many Unburden Pokemon appreciate Terrain, and a lot of Pokemon generally just appreciate the Grassy Terrain recovery. However, Thwackey can't do all of this at once. Its middling base stats force it to invest EVs in any stats it wants to properly use. Also, it suffers the same issues of many other cheap grass types Grass-types with plenty of weaknesses.

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf allows Thwackey to serve as a fast pivot and to potentially revenge kill foes with Wood Hammer and other coverage moves.

Tera
========
Thwackey does not need Tera nearly as much as its teammates. It should only be considered as a Tera Captain when paired with a high price captain high-price Captain and when options for a second Captain are limited. All of these can utilize Tera Blast for type coverage (RP) That's implied Keep in mind that even if it is a Tera Captain, it will does not Terastallize often, (AC) since it is usually Tera in the battle due to likely being paired with a more expensive primary Tera Captain.

Draft Strategy
========

**Bulky Pokemon Without Recovery**: Grassy Terrain is also useful in giving teammates without recovery more longevity (RP) Pokemon such as , (AC) includingIron Hands, Raging Bolt, and Archaludon all appreciate. (AP)
