Welcome to my first ever competitive Pokemon team! ayyy! This took 2 hours of reseach and about 1 hour of teambuilding and tweaking, as this is my first team, I find that 3 hours spent is a nice amount of time, as the team is pretty solid and got me a cool 24/3 W/L ratio. The point of the team is to clean the field of threats with semi-stall (Mega Venu + WoW is like, super annoying) and by using Thundurus as a Para spreader, while also locking down threats like Cress and other annoying walls from doing anything significant, then to clean the field with Azu, Aegislash and Lando-T. One thing that this team lacks is just a straight beatstick to plow though stuff, like Kyurem-B or Kangaskhan, on a previous draft of the team (Gengar-Mega, Ferrothorn, Rotom-H, Keldeo, Thundurus, Landorus-T) I was thinking about using Mega Kangaskhan over my current mega, but hashtag smogon suggested Mega Venu and Aegislash, and I liked it! So this is it dudes, enjoy :)
Aegislash @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
IVs: 29 Spe
- Wide Guard
- King's Shield
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon
Aegislash is an overall great mon for this team, the Wide Guard support is really appreciated, as my team is really weak to very common spread moves, like Earthquake, Rock Slide and Heat Wave. King's Shield is a must have on any Aegislash, it changes your stance and lowers physical attackers attack by 2 stages if they use a contact move on Aegislash, which is suuuper nice. Also works like protect, and protect is protect >.> Shadow Ball and Flash Cannon are my offensive moves, they're both STAB which is also nice, some people like running Secret Sword > Flash Cannon but I like Flash Cannon more because it allows me to beat some Fairies like Syleon, also is special which removes the need to runa nature that decreases SpDef/Def. The EVs are super standard and there's nothing to be explained about them. I'm using Leftovers instead of Sitrus because most times Aegislash would just sit there spamming Wide Guard or just plainly outplaying my opponent without switching out, so the over-time recovery that Leftiovers provides is indeed, better.
Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 180 HP / 132 Def / 40 SpA / 80 SpD / 76 Spe
Modest Nature
- Leech Seed
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Protect
The defensive backbone of the team, this pokemon is so bulky it's just plainly offensive for bulky offense teams. It's really good at checking rain which is something that my team is surprisingly weak to. I'm using Leech Seed > Sleep Powder because 1. The stalling capabilities are super appreciated for things like Azumarill and Scarfed Landorus-T 2. It gives me recovery and withers down my opponent in the process 3. I have both burn and para in my team already, is a 3rd status really nescessary? Giga Drain is for that added recovery and is also a STAB move, helps me fuck over some Gastrodon strats too! Sludge Bomb is cool because not many things resist it, it has that nice 30% Poison chance (which combos nicely with Leech Seed) and it's STAB. Protect is Protect like srsly I'm not explaining protect. The EV spread survies Adamant Life Orb Brave Bird from Talonflame and a Psychic from Timid Life Orb Latios, that's hella bulky! Rest goes into SpAtk, and since Mega Venusaur is hella bulky, I use Modest. (Spread taken from Venusaur's analysis)
Rotom-Heat @ Safety Goggles
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 232 HP / 56 SpA / 220 Spe
Modest Nature
- Overheat
- Thunderbolt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Protect
This is my main sun check, Aegislash and Mega Venusaur are both really weak to sun, and for me, this is the best check for the classic Venusaur + Charizard-Y combo, it's the ULTIMATE cockblock for it, you can't sleep it, you calso can't kill it! ayy! This little guy is also very effective at cockblocking Amoongus and etc, and overall really good mon! EV spread outspeeds Jolly Breloom and Adamant Bisharp, also lives an Adamant Stone Edge from Landorus-T, also breaks Heatran's substitute with Thunderbolt, which is a big problem to this team (EV spread taken from Smogdex's Rotom-H analysis). I like Will-O-Wisp over Thunder Wave because Thundurus already does the job of spreading para REALLY well and Will-O-Wisp is better vs things like Terrakion and Landorus-T. And as always, Protect is Protect.
Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet
- Belly Drum
- Protect
Azumarill is my beatstick, it hits everything so hard it's not even funny, I like using a Belly Drum set because it can sweep MANY low ladder teams and is also a powerful late game menace, when everything is already half head. The moves are standar, Play Rough hits like a truck at 100 km/h, Aqua Jet hits like a tennis ball at 350 km/h, Belly Drum makes everything get crazy strong, and makes it easy to clean the field late game. And as always, Protect is Protect. The EVs are rather simple, but very effective, just hit as hard as you can while mantaining bulk. Sitrus really synergizes well with Belly Drum as it recovers me from the 50% to 75%, while also letting me take hits better when I'm not setting up Belly Drum, an overall great item to have on Azumarill, Life Orb is an option, but since I'm running Belly Drum I don't really see that as viable.
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Superpower
- U-turn
The bread and butter revenge-killer of the team, almost all the good doubles team have this mon and I can understand it! 145 Attack, Intimidate amazing spread and coverage is not to be played around with! Earthquake is your best move, it's spread and hits super hard, bops tran which is a big problem for this team. Rock Slide is used for hitting things that resist EQ/are immune to it, it also hits ONLY the opponent, so I can use this in combo with Azumarill so it doesn't die to a Earthquake or w/e. Superpower is my random coverage, it hits Kangaskhan super duper hard, also a few other things, really cool move to have. U-Turn is used to keep momentum and to hit some things so Azumarill - or any other mon on the team really - can kill it without the need for Landorus staying in. Another good thing is that it provides a SLOW switch, but it is vulnerable to Protect though. The EVs are more than standard, hit things as hard as possible while also being fast to be able to kill more things. I use scarf because of Landorus-T's mediocre speed, allowing to outspeed most things in the tier. Intimidate lowers their attack and stuff. Random thing to make the line bigger, you should have gone over to the next Pokemon already, I'm only writing this to make it look bigger and therefore making me look smarter, so yeah go forward to Thundurus now.
Thundurus (M) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 244 HP / 108 Def / 64 SpA / 72 SpD / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Taunt
- Thunder Wave
Thundurus is my Paralyze spreader and my best check to Trick Room, it excels at doing both because of it's bulk and priority Taunt, which is suuuuper nice vs walls like Cresselia and Ferrothorn, both are big problems for this team. I'm running Hidden Power Ice because it makes the BoltBeam combo and I can use it on Landorus' that are stuck with EQ or w/e to drop 'em dead. Thunderbolt is STAB and hits HARD, even with my low Special Attack investment. The EVs are complicated, I survive an Timid Life Orb Draco Meteor from Latios, Adamant Landorus-T's Stone Edge, outspeed Jolly Breloom and it also makes Thundurus' HP divisible by 4, which means that I heal more from Sitrus Berry (EVs taken from Thundurus' Smogdex analysis)

Aegislash @ Sitrus Berry
