To break the bonds of Stereotypes, a CHAINChomp RMT!

Introduction: Not that many people know me here, but I’ve been lurking for quite a while (even posting a generic Ubers RMT a little while back!) But I have yet to really involve myself with OU in Gen 5, that’s why I’m here now. More importantly, I finished school today, so might as well celebrate right? This is a creative team that I thought up about 3 days ago sitting in my little room reading the debate on whether or not to ban Garchomp. I noticed somebody brought up Chain Chomp, but he was thrown aside by the ravenous debaters, who argued that Garchomp’s worst set was the Sub SD set, with this in mind; I set out to design a team around Chainchomp, the objective being to lure out and remove Garchomp’s counters. This team peaked in the low 1400’s for those of you who care about this kind of thing, but it’s been falling lately (partially due to hax, partially due to the advanced skill levels that I’m facing in the higher rated areas, and partially due to the team itself) I hope that you all can give me a hand in making this back into the beautiful team that it once was. So grab you caffeinated beverage of choice, kick your feet up, turn off the boring sitcom (or turn it back on so you have an excuse to read this RMT, and now, let’s get down to business).

Check out the Team Building Process if you like.

Chainchomp was the center of this team so obviously I needed to take advantage of his luring abilities. So obviously Excadrill would make a fine candidate, I decided to use a Jolly LO Swords Dance set to beat the out crop of Adamant Excas I’d been seeing lately. The set has since evolved to 4 Attacks+Life Orb

Finally, I need to bring in Tyranitar to fill out the triad of Sand. I went with a standard lead set with a Denial Twist

Next I needed a rain counter; I decided to go with a Choice Specs Kingdra set which I had seen in a sun RMT a little while back it’s really nice as it gives me a second check to Tornadobro, Thunderbro, as well as a way to beat some threats in the sand.

From here I wasn’t all that sure on where to go, I noticed that I lacked a Grass type and had a certain weakness to scarfed dragons appearing, so I went for a Protect+Leech Seed Ferrothorn

Finally, I chose to round off the team with Jellicent, a personal favorite of mine since the start of the gen who could spinblock as well as provide another check to stuff like banded Azumaril.

The PartyStarter

248.png
@ Chople Berry
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Satk / 180 Sdef
Sassy Nature (+Sdef, -Spd)
- Superpower
- Fire Blast
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock

This is based off the classic set that Iconic popularized but with a slight twist, with the reduction of Earthquake on Tar, people are becoming more and more comfortable with switching in their Terakions and Ttars, hoping to take advantage of my lack of Earthquake to KO me with Fighting attacks, this is why I’ve got Chople Berry, to take what would be the end of me, then to KO the perpetrator (most Fighting moves bring about a defense drop) how fun is that? In this way, I’ve already begun to clear away Excadrill’s counters from what might be the very first turn.

Possible Changes: As great as this set is, it doesn’t get up Rocks as reliably as I’d like and I feel like the Special Defense is wasted because it can’t really counter Lati@s without Crunch/Pursuit, so I’m thinking about dropping rocks on this guy and sticking it somewhere else (I’d hate to sacrifice spikes on Ferro, but it’s a possibility) and also shuffling the EV’s so I can live +1 Drain Punch from Conkeldurr.

The Offensive Duo

230.png
@ Choice Specs
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse
- Surf
- Ice Beam
I’m going to be honest, the underachiever of the team, but at least for the moment he’s juuuuuuust right. Against Rain he kicks out the jams and drops what would be hyper-threatening pokes like Thunderus like there’s no tomorrow, but otherwise he’s honestly only somewhat useful, even Modest Specs Meteor fails to 1HKO Conkeldurr a lot of the time, which is a big problem considering what a threat that thing is to Exca and honestly, most of the rest of my team. Still, he’s invaluable against Rain teams (nothing like dropping half of a team with Kingdra, then going back to Sand and into Exca to clean up without even using Garchomp) I went with a rather standard moveset for Specs Kingdra, but once again, it works out juuuuuuust right

Possible Changes: I’ve considered various Rotom Forms as well as Lati@s for this spot, although they really aren’t what I want. What I’m searching for is either a poke that can reliably beat Lati@s or a poke that keeps Kingdra’s offensive momentum and ability to counter rain, as well as setting up Stealth Rock. In the short term, Outrage over Dragon Pulse might start seeing use so I can beat CM Virizion, who otherwise destroys this team. The final thought would be, maaaaaaaybe Gyarados, it just came up.

450.png
@ Life Orb
Trait: Sand Veil
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
- Substitute

I’m in love with this guy, I really am, and the amount of Ragequits he induces is fantastic let me show you a little conversation I had with somebody I was fighting on the ladder, he’d been ranting about how this was just a generic team for quite a while (sorry about the paraphrasing):
Kuatia sent out Garchomp!
Ladder Trainer: Lol, see how predictable you are, Garchomp on a sand team, real original
Kuatia: You’ll see….
Ladder Trainer called back Heatran
Ladder Trainer sent out Skarmory!
Garchomp used Substitute!
Ladder Trainer: Lol you’re really bad at this game
Garchomp used Fire Blast!
Skarmory Fainted!
Ladder Trainer Disconnected!
Yeah, that’s an example of the guy’s potential, just in case any of you aren’t sold on him yet…
Chainchomp Fire Blast vs. Physically Defensive Skarm 98.8% - 116.8%
Chainchomp Fire Blast vs. Tank Brongzong 53.3% - 63.3%
Chainchomp Draco Meteor vs. Physically Defensive Gliscor 68.6% - 80.8%
I don’t think we need a calc for Nattorei, now do we? Even better, once the opponent figures out that they AREN’T fighting standard Garchomp they might try and switch in Heatran hoping for a Flash Fire boost, too bad that this Chomp beats all Heatran not named Air Baloon Nitro Charge w/ Hidden Power Ice! So as you can see, it removes all of its usual counters as well as being able to switch in on a number of common threats, sub up, and make mincemeat of the opposing team. Besides, LO’d Draco Meteors are always a fun thing to throw around.
Possible Changes: Making me change this will be like forcing a parent to eat their child. Speaking of eating, go ahead and grab a refill! Because you’re halfway through the RMT!

The Defensive Duo

598.png
@ Shed Shell
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Power Whip
Yup, the single most generic set on the team, I run shed shell because Magnezone are never fun to face, and I can use the time they spend HP Firing me to switch in Garchomp (or Jellicent if Garchomp’s not around for whatever reason) Spikes are spikes and can often be key late game for taking out like opposing Chomps or whatever else Stealth rock resistant monsters might be lurking late-game. Protect is neat for scouting and recovery, though I’ve been wondering whether or not changing it to Toxic might be in order (so as to beat Sub Latias on the initial switch in) Leech Seed to regain health, and Powerwhip to slap around Politoed.

Possible Changes: Protect to Toxic, I’m also thinking about testing Skarmory here, the Phazing capabilities would be much appreciated against stuff although the loss of Leech Seed would be missed.

593.png
@ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Water Spout/Surf
- Hex

Agh, the other underachiever of the team he’s useful whenever I come across a spinner, and he spreads Burns like a pro, but I find that he’s set-up bait for a few too many things, regardless, he’s a fantastic lure for things that Garchomp likes to set up on. (Oh hey any and all Electric Types) The moveset works fantastic on a stall team, but a bet less when it’s my brand of spike-stacking offense, ideally, you Will-O-Wisp the switch in and then Hex it to death, water spouting against any Fire types that come in, but sometimes I want the steadfastness of Surf when I’m dealing with something like Conkeldurr that only gets stronger with Guts/already has nice bulk

Possible Changes: I’ve thought of Sub-Disable Gengar (he’d make a better partner for Kingdra out of sand, as well as give me a levitating poke) but that’s really about all, his turf is largely taken up by Kingdra anyways.

The Cleanup Man

530Doryuuzu.gif
@ Life Orb
Trait: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- X-Scissor
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Brick Break

One of my least favorite pokes of the gen…..until now, this guy is right FANTASTIC and a great cleaner, I used to run Swords Dance, but I’ve found that in the early game I need this guy for killing Reuniclus and Celebi with X-Scissor I wasn’t really using Swords Dance anyways, and what could be achieved with an SD rockslide can be achieved with X-Scissor. This guy will see action early game, revenging threats that have been weakened by Ttar (Thunderus comes to mind) and late game cleaning up a team devoid of opposing counters.

HERR THREAT LIST

Offensive Threats

Aerodactyl- Lead: Ttar Ice Beams if it sets up Rocks, Ice Beam again, if it Taunts, Ice Beam again, if it attacks, go to Ferrothorn and Powerwhip it to hell.
LO: Ferrothorn slaps it around with Powerwhip.
Archeops –Is Ice Beamed if in the Lead Spot, can’t switch in on anything and is walled by Ferrothorn
Azelf –Lead: Who’s going to Lead with an Azelf against Ttar? I get my rocks and deal with whatever he sent in.
Band: Played around, lure out Tpunch with Jellicent and get Garchomp in scott free, lure out Fire Punch with Ferrothorn, etc.
NP:Those which lack something to hit Jellicent are 2 hit Ko’d by Hex, those that surprise me get revenged by Excadrill, there isn’t too much that it can switch into without some form of consequence.
Bisharp –Sub SD is annoying to handle, and this is one of the main reasons that I’m looking at Skarmory, this thing gets in and gets a sub up, somebody’s getting sacked, usually it’s Kingdra, who Surfs it to break the sub, usually I lose Kingdra, but Excadrill gets to come in free for the K.O.
Breloom – Everybody hates this poke, questions? Comments? Wonderful, because it’s annoying to this team, my lack of restalker makes it a monster to handle, I’ll usually go to Jellicent to take the spore, then switch to Kingdra or Garchomp (I really lack a switch-in for this guy)spam Dragon attacks to break the sub, and let the other Dragon revenge kill.
Chandelure – Another reason that I miss Crunch/Pursuit on Ttar, it generally get’s beat down by rocks, and I can beat it with Jellicent or Kingdra regardless, Exca revenges variants without a substitute up.
Cobalion – Superpowered by Ttar after it tries to break through the Chople Berry Beaten by Jellicent, Garchomp provided it’s not Rock Polish, and Excadrill, provided it’s not Rock Polish
Conkeldurr – Bulk Up is trouble if he’s running light Special Defense investment, but usually Kingdra can get off a 2HKO with DMeteor if it gets greedy, otherwise Garchomp gets the same KO. This is why I’m considering good old Sub-Disable Gengar.
Darmanitan –The Nuke: Kingdra can kill it out of the sun, and it has difficulty switching in. (Coming in on Ferro leaves it T-Waved, Leech-Seeded, or taking spikes damage (why else would I not be Twaving/Leech-Seeding?)So it can rarely come in more than once (unless the opponent is running something like Healing Wish Lilligant, luckily, people don’t seem to be smart enough to do that.)
Deoxys-S – Spike setters get 2/3 Hit KO’d by Ttar through a combination of Fire Blast and Ice Beam, Screen types last longer, but usually I can stall out whatever’s behind the screens, and Deo-S rarely finds time to come in again. (Anybody else notice a drop in usage for this guy?)
Late Game Cleaners have to deal with a rather angry Excadrill, Expert Belted ones coming in on Garchomp are owned by EQ after I get my sub up.
Dragonite – Another outstanding yet annoying poke, how do I beat this one? Well standard DD loses to Ferro if it lacks Fire Punch, and gets revenged by Excadrill, those without Lum Berry are Will-O-Wisped by Jellicent then Hexed to death, Ttar beats those that use Superpower with Ice Beam
Druddigon –I’ve never seen one of these, but probably just handled via Ferrothorn, seems like setup bait for Chomp, who threatens it out and Subs up.
Eelektross –Again, a rare thing to see, and it’s versatility means that each encounter is unique Leech Seed it and scout for any Fire attacks with Ferro and switch to Kingdra, Draco Meteor it to the other side of the move.
Electivire – Actually the exact same drill as Elektross, it’s just a physical attacker.
Emboar – Earthquaked by Garchomp, Walled by Jellicent, Surfed/D Meteored by Kingdra
Empoleon – Leads get Superpowered, otherwise both Ferrothorn and Jellicent drop this guy.
Espeon – Same boat as Deo-S, Everything except Ttar might be able to beat it, but ultimately a huge thorn in my side, when I see this I just start with Kingdra and force it to Eat a Dracometeor, screw Light Screen (some reflect thinking they’re dealing with Sub-DD) I get fast damage down on it, then go to Ttar to start Sand Stream and nullify Leftovers. Can switch into the defensive duo, but Garchomp, Kingdra, and somewhat Exca all beat it.
Escavalier – Fire Blasted, Walled (more or less) by Ferro, but mostly Fire Blasted
Excadrill – My own Exca beats Adamant variants, temporarily walled and Leech Seeded by Ferrothorn if I predict well I can make a double switch with Kingdra and Surf it before it sets up. Thorns in my side, but not a massive one and most people keep theirs til late game.
Garchomp – Scarf gets Walled by Ferro, Band gets walled by Ferro/Kingdra, Sub SD gets Revenged by Chain Chomp without a sub, even better, it can’t switch on anything except maybe Kingdra’s surf or a -4 DM. And nobody uses Chain Chomp. (If I do happen across one, usually it’ll get it’s DM blocked by Ferro after I understand what it is.)

Gengar –Heh Heh, Sub Disable and Subsplit are still beaten by Ttar, as any turn you’re not subbing up is a turn where I break you with Ice Beam/Fire Blast, then when you Focus Blast CHOPLE BERRY! DENIED! Can only switch in on Ferrothorn Protecting (even then, I can power whip to break your subs)
Golurk – Never seen this, beaten by what seems like most of the team easily beats this guy, Kingdra, Ferro, Jelli, even Ttar. And that’s just the defensive portion.
Gyarados – Any DD variant gets WRECKED by Ferrothorn, DD taunt usually can’t hit it and takes damage from a little something called Power Whip (seriously, it’s a 120 Neutral attack) Not to mention that Rocks wrecks it even more.
Haxorus –Ferrothorned. Revenged by Chomp or (my personal favorite) Kingdra in the rain (let’s face it, the most common appearance for this guy is Enter the Dragon, amirite?)
Heatran –Jellicented, Garchomped unless it’s Air Balloon Nitro Charge, revenged by Exca, Ttared in the lead spot.
Heracross – Heh Heh, Band or Status orb is all I seem to see, and Jellicent happens to be able to absorb a fighting attack and then Hex it/Water Spout it to hell.
Hydreigon – Garchomped, Choice sets have to deal with Jellicent/Ferrothorn gets revenged by Excadrill (seriously what doesn’t?)
Infernape – Jellicent can Spout/Surf it into oblivion while laugh it’s attacks off. Lead sets are defeated (somewhat embarrassingly) when Ttar lives through the Close Combat and absolutely wrecks with Superpower.
Jirachi – Twave+Iron head is beaten by Chomp, if I find out it’s using Protect, Ferrothorn gets the okay to come in and wall it, Garchomp can burn it and then stall it out more or less, oh, and guess what, REVENGED BY EXCA
Jolteon –Relatively rare, Exca revenges nicely, Ferrothorn walls sets not using HP fire/fighting. In case of HP fire/fighting, in comes Kingdra for the Dmeteor.
Kingdra – DD is walled hard by Ferrothorn(even as it’s attack increases, so does damage from Iron Thorns) Specs is more or less walled by Kingdra, but totally walled by Jellicent after Ferro takes Dmeteor number one. Garchomp beats it if it’s not behind a sub/set up I’m thinking of running Timid on Kingdra to have another half-check to this guy.
Krookodile – Haha oh this thing? Ice Beamed by Ttar, Walled hard by Ferro, Kingdra can hit it with surf; Chomp takes a chunk with Draco Meteor. Oh and exca revenges by the way.
Kyurem –Don’t ever see these, go to Jellicent, Garchomp and Exca revenge and versions lacking Focus Blast etc. get walled by Ferro, Blizzard is inaccurate in the sand, and the frozen world lead is beaten by Superpower.
Landorus – Have mostly disappeared in favor of chomps, still annoying, Kingdra beats anything not named SD, and Garchomp at the very least, does a number to SD variants, usually enough for Dory to Rockslide it to its death.
Latios – Ferrothorn takes the Dmeteor and scouts for HpFire, it’s in trouble if I can get Leech Seeds up on it from there, Jellicent can Will-O-Wisp it (more residual damage) and hex it to death, fun fact: Excadrill revenges.
Lilligant – I’ve gotta be careful as this thing’s Leaf Storm really hurts Ttar, and it’s the best supporter sun has. As such my best real check is to let Jellicent take the sleep, then switch in Ferro to eat the leaf storm, from there I can set up spikes, or go to Kingdra as I predict a Fire type switch-in. If its quiver dance than Exca beats it out of the sun. Garchomp can also beat quite a few versions out of the sun.
Lucario –Superpowered, revenged by Exca, can be worn out by a well played combo of Ferro and Jellicent.
Machamp –Hate this, Will-O-Wisp it with Jellicent, then take the 2nd payback with Ferro, Protect stall it with burns and switches to Jellicent.
Magnezone –Lol, if I see this I leech seed with Ferro and catch it switching in, then I protect to give it what feels like the advantage, then I switch to either ttar or if I don’t think Ttar will be able to take 2 thunderbolts, Garchomp.
Mamoswine – Superpowered in the lead spot, annoying if it’s running Focus Sash, as it makes Dory have to take an early Ice Schard. It should be noted that banded EQ and Banded Superpower 1HKO ttar, this guy is the other reason I’m leaning towards swapping Jellicent for Gengar.
Metagross – Switch to Ferrothorn first thing, but I’m starting to be wary of Trickbanders, so Kingdra is an occasional switch-in, so as to give it something useless.
Mienshao –Most overrated poke ever, I only see these in the lower levels, still though, set up Rocks after his Hi Jump Kick activates Chople, then go to Jellicent and hope he tries again, Ferro can somewhat wall him midgame, switching out after protect gets used up to Jellicent.
Reuniclus –OTR doesn’t too much besides get switched around and stalled by Ferro and Jellicent, hit it with Hexs, Exca revenges, Garchomp and Kingdra can hit ones that haven’t set up with powerful Draco Meteors. Calm Mind sets are run over by a combination of Chomp and Exca in either order.
Roserade – I play similar to lilligant, I scot for hp fire, if it’s there, go to Garchomp and wear it out, when I see one of these, it becomes imperative that I get Chomp in and behind a sub before the second layer of spikes goes up.
Salamence –Fun stuff, can come in on Ferro, but risks Leech Seed, a healthy Ttar wins with Ice Beam, Jellicent Will-O-Wisps and beats most mixmence, Chomp can kill it with Dmeteor provided it hasn’t got a speed boost, and at +1 Exca can revenge it.
Sawsbuck – Out of sun or in Ferro walls all sets without jumpkick, what? A set has Jump Kick? Go to Jellicent and let it fly through! Free spikes also…
Scizor –Banded sets get walled by Ferro, usually. If it has Superpower Jellicent comes in and Will-O-Wisps it/the switchin. Any SD variant without a Lum Berry must submit to the sublime power of Ferro/Jellicent. Some with Lum Berries still have to submit.
Seismitoad – Hi my name is Ferrothorn. Set-up bait for Garchomp also.
Serperior –Again, Ferrothorn, or Garchomp, I never see these though so it’s pretty much alright.
Shaymin –Most run HP Fire, so it’s usually Ferro taking seed Flare, protecting to get a turn of Sandstorm damage, then into Kingdra for the Hp fire, and then I get to drop a Free Draco Meteor on the opponent. Sub+Protect are beaten by Chomp, who just subs up on the Leech Seed, then Fire Blasts to hell.
Sigilyph –Don’t see this as much anymore, Kingdra hurts it with Ice Beam Garchomp gets behind a sub and sometimes threatens it out; I can hex variants with Flame Orb with Jellicent, a problem but not a #1 Problem. Exca kills ones without too much Cosmic Power.
Smeargle – Annoying, lead with Ttar, let Jellicent take the spore, switch in Excadrill to brickbreak/Earthquake the sub (I’ll use whichever move I can hit the most members of their team for neutral damage with, seeing as Smeargle passes notoriously weak subs) Then I can KO the recipient of the pathetic sub, or at least dent it.
Starmie –Hi I’m Ferrothorn/Jellicent and I make your life miserable. Jellicent Will-O-Hexes, Ferrothorn Powerwhips after a quick protect.
Terakion –It’s hilarious how many people will try and Close Combat my Ttar first turn, I get so many free Terakion KO’s. Rock Polish variants lategame are dealt with either by Ttar, or Will-O-Wisped, and SD variants are outrun and killed by Exca.
Thundurus –Lead Thunderus gets Ice Beamed as it either sets up or Focus Blasts, if the first Blast connects I go to Jellicent and then Kingdra, if he sets up then I get a free kill with Ttar (providing that he doesn’t crit)Later thunderus are revenged by Kingdra, rain or no rain.
Togekiss –Don’t see this much but Jellicent takes it on quite handily barring Flinchhax and Stealth Rock makes it weak from the start. Chomp just about beats non-scarf offensive variants with Dmeteor, oh and, EXCA REVENGES
Tornadus –Just about the exact same thing as Thunderus, early game ones go down to Ttar, since I only ever see this guy in Rain, he gets Revenged by Kingdra, or Exca if I can get sand up.
Tyranitar –These are the most common victims of the Superpower trap, and none of them enjoy taking a Superpower let me tell you, midgame, I EQ with Garchomp while they’re trying to Ice Beam, and Lategame Doryuuzu cleans up real nicely.
Venusaur –Special Attacking is played around between Jellicent and Ferrothorn, beaten by Garchomp, if it can’t set up in the Sun Garchomp also beats it. Mixed sets are trickier, but I can usually stall it for sand damage using Ferrothorn, and finish it off with Chomp or Dory, not to mention that Ttar wrecks most versions by bringing back sand as they try to set up.
Victini –Another reason that I miss crunch, banded versions are dealt with by Jellicent, LO versions can leave quite the dent, but are ultimately beaten by Garchomp or Revenged by Dory, Trick Room is a massive threat, but is stalled out/around (Jellicent, Ferro) and possibly outsped in TR by Jellicent, who delivers a Waterspout to your face.
Virizion –One of my least favorite pokes, if this thing gets more than a few Calm Minds up its game, my best bet is to (in Rain) Ice Beam it with Kingdra before it gets too comfy or (out of rain) Ice Beam it with Kingdra before it gets too comfy. Besides that, I can X-Scissor with Dory which will do a bit of damage, possibly not enough for the revenge though, public enemy number one if there ever was one.
Volcarona –Rockslided by Exca, Chainchomped, Waterspouted, Stealth Rocked, I’ve a multitude of ways to beat this thing.
Weavile –Don’t ever see these, but Low Kicks versions coming at Ttar lose to ChoplePower, otherwise beaten by Ferrothorn and Excadrill revenges.
Zoroark –If I see one of these, I Superpower with Ttar off the bat and see if I get the free KO. If it’s not their lead, I’m careful and do my best to pick Fighting moves, as well as keep an eye on whether or not the opponent’s staying in when they really shouldn’t, this thing really can’t do much anyways as once it’s revealed I can kill it with Dory.
Defensive Threats

Alomomola – The ultimate Ferrothorn bait, Leech Seed it/the switchin, set up spikes as necessary.
Blissey –Nobody switches their Blissey into Garchomp right! Usually comes in after I pop Draco Meteor, so I get to Earthquake it me and threaten the KO will it breaks my sub or whatever
Bronzong –Lured out and WRECKED by Garchomp.
Celebi –Beaten by Garchomp, but also wrecked by Excadrill if it gets greedy with setup. Cleric versions are annoying, but my team doesn’t really rely on status in the long run so it’s alright to fight.
Chansey –It’s a Blissey that needs to use recovery moves more often, Exca can beat it and Ferrothorn sets up on it.
Deoxys-D –I never see these, I’d probably just set up spikes with Ferro and Leech Seed if it tried attacking me, technically an obstacle for my wallbreakers, but they’re usually EV’d one way or another, so I’m bound to attack the weaker side at some point.
Cofagrigus –Never see these, Leech Seeded by Ferrothorn, 2HKO’d by Garchomp (even if they rest up I just keep the damage going with Earthquakes)
Crustle – Annoying in all honesty, I’ll set up Stealth Rock if they’re in the lead spot, then I’ll head over to Ferrothorn to leech seed and set up spikes alongside it, when it’s about to set down the last layer I go to chomp and Sub up while he has to go to his counter.
Dusclops – Dealt with about the same way as Cofagarious, this thing can’t beat Chomp once it gets behind a sub, also beaten in a Will-O-Wisp spam war by Jellicent as I can hex it.
Ferrothorn –My absolute favorite thing to fight, it’s so easy to beat, Fire Blasted in the lead spot by Ttar, my own Ferro sets up alongside it and I can bait and switch it with Garchomp sometimes I’ll pull the same trick I do with Crustle, though it doesn’t work QUITE as well on Ferro, if they switch out to a more dedicated counter (Gliscor) I get a sub, if they attack, I get to Roast Ferrothorn.
Forretress –Dealt with just Like Ferrothorn, the main difference is that I leech seed it while we’re setting up, if it’s doing T-Spikes I’ll go to Garchomp before Layer 2, sub up and KO with Fire Blast.
Garbodor – Never see these, although I feel like everybody except for Ttar is in more than a position to beat this guy.
Gigalith –Again, never see these, beaten by my entire bloody team though.
Gliscor –Gets weakened by Chomp, versions lacking protect outright lose, versions with Protect lose to Kingdra, and once I bring out Exca late game they’re around 30% tops, if they’re higher than that I’ve messed up somewhere else.
Hippowdon –It’s like Gliscor except I can actually use all of my mixed might on it, usually an easy 2HKO, though it’s so rare.
Jellicent –Ferro bait, worn down by repeatedly switching to spikes. Beat up by everybody but Kingdra.
Latias –The single greatest threat to the team, if it can get up a sub and keep that sub up it’s gg, Exca pretty much revenges versions without a sub, and if it’s mono attacker I can usually outright beat it with Exca, but Sub CM HP Fire Dpulse 6-0s me, thankfully it’s pretty rare, I still have trouble with mono attacking sub though, as it can usually switch out with minimal costs as entry hazards don’t do too much.
Mandibuzz –Between rocks, Ice Beam, Superpower, Rockslide, Brick Break, Leech Seed, Draco Meteor, and, well you get the point, this guy’s covered and I’ve never been tanked by one.
Murkrow – Don’t see these much, usually surprise Featherdance Variants by subbing up, then Dmeteoring them. (Even if I get taunted I can still Dmeteor) late game Murkrow can’t escape Super Effective damage from Dory, I just rock slide til it needs to roost, then Brick Break.
Ninetales – Rocks, Jellicent, Spikes, and Garchomp all work towards beating Ninetales, sun in general has a lot of trouble thanks to Kingdra, who rocks the quad resist and grass neutrality like a BOSS.
Politoed – Beaten by a combination of Ferro and ttar, leech seed it as it comes in, go to Ttar as he Focus Blasts, Chople it up, then go to Jellicent, next time it looks like Toed is coming in, Powerwhip and enjoy your free KO. If that wasn’t enough, Garchomp breaks it and Exca does about 40% per Earthquake, usually meaning that Politoed can only switch in twice tops.
Porygon2 –Superpowered, Brick Broken, Leech Seeded, so many ways to beat this guy, he’s either the first opponent to go or the last to go, either way, he can’t stop my team.
Rotom-H –This is defensive? It can come in on Ferrothorn, but it’ll probably get Leech Seeded, then I go to either a Healthy Ttar or Garchomp or Kingdra to take the oncoming Overheat/Thunderbolt. Never actually seen one though.
Rotom-W – I take my time with this one, they like to give their scarves to Ttar, so I often just rock against them, then I switch between Jellicent and Ferrothorn, doing neat things like slamming them with power whip or leech seeding them to do some improve medicing for my team. Is a check to Chainchomp (one of the few)I can usually beat it up pretty hard with Dmeteor from either Dragon though. Bulkier pain split sets generally get beaten by Will-O-Wisp from Jellicent followed by Dmeteor from Garchomp.
Scolipede –Lol, Fire Blasted or Rock slided, never see these though.
Skarmory –See the damage calc back over in the Garchomp section, seriously though, I get leech seeds on it from Ferro and can set up alongside it.
Snorlax –Superpowered, Brick Broken, still, one of the bigger threats, if it can get a few curses up I almost say good game, I do my best to get Leech Seeds on it if it seems to be getting to strong to handle, because at worst I can just burn it and keep forcing it to rest while I drop Specs Draco meteors on it.
Suicune –Ferrothorn bait. Jellicent beats it too.
Swampert –Oh hey Ferrothorn Bait.
Tentacruel –EQ from Chomp KO’s 252-120 Tentacruel after rocks 100% of the time, note that if it gets in leftovers recovery it MIGHT survive. I rarely see 120 variants myself, so it’s mostly just your Specially Defensive walls, childs play, as they say.
Vaporeon –Once again beaten by Ferrothorn
Whimsicott –Just bring in Ferrothorn and convince it not to use Leech Seed, then bring out Garchomp and start Fire Blasting, a slight threat on paper, but usually I get full hazards up with Ferro and scare it out with something(most people are less than inclined to keep this in on Chomp for some reason) so it’s never KO’d me.
Xatu – It’s like an Espeon that I can hurt with Ttar! Garchomp once again shows off his wall-breaking antics as well, not to mention that I beat it lategame with Excadrill, you cannot hide from super effective damage!
Zapdos –Don’t see this much, beaten by Exca late game, early game gets hit by Ttar, battered by Rocks, and those without Heatwave are set up fodder for Ferrothorn, those with Heat wave are missing A. Sub (Lose to Ttar) B. HP Grass (Lose to Ttar) or C. (Recovery method beyond leftovers) Lose to Ttar, ultimately I usually beat this. Not to mention that Kingdra can hit it with an even stronger Ice Beam.

Conclusion: Well that took a while, thanks for coming this far. I made this RMT in a attempt to take a stereotyped Pokemon, Garchomp, and cast him into new light, I sincerely hope that I’ve achieved this and maybe piqued your curiosity on exploring new aspects of familiar pokemon. Cheers all, enjoy the team! And go ahead and ask if something in the threat list wasn’t clear!

This is a pretty good team and that chomp set is a really antimeta lure i liek.

On the other hand that chople Tar is a pretty useless lure. Terak still OHKOs and Tar can't do anything back to Roob regardless of whether it can take a +1 Drain Punch. Chople is usually meant to take Superpowers from opposing Tar and Focus Blasts from Gengar, thundurus, etc. Try this set instead, it utilizes Tar's special bulk better.

Tyranitar @ Chople Berry
Sandstream l Quiet
EVs: 248 HP / 84 SpAtk / 176 SpDef
- Stealth Rock
- Pursuit
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast

Just to tweak a few sets...HP Fire is more useful than Ice Beam on Kingdra, even if all it hits is Natt. Dual stab is already near perfect coverage anyway.

Brick Break doesn't really fit on Dory without SD. Reason being, unboosted BB fails to nab the KO on opposing Balloon Dory and Terak so it kind of defeats the purpose putting it on a 4 atks set. I think SD would help out more against stall instead. X-Scis's 10 extra bp hardly makes a difference on Rank, especially if its unboosted. X-Scissor's main use is revenging Latios and hitting Zong neutrally, which I find that you don't need because Tar can pursuit trap Latios and Chomp can lure Zong with Fire Blast. Your team would benefit more from Rapid Spin given how spikes vulnerable it is and LO Rapid Spin is unexpected and hard to block. LO return is another good option for a spammable early game move to catch ground immunes.

Doryuuzu @ Life Orb
Sand Rush l Jolly
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin / Return

Maybe try a more physically defensive Burungeru to give you some slack when blocking spin against Dory/ Donphan. Bold is actually standard because it has plenty of natural bulk and resists on the special end.

You could use a switch in to SubSD chomp, SD Dory, and Virizion, so I think a specially defensive Skarm > Natt would be a good replacement. Most importantly, Skarm prevents Rock Polish Balloon Terak from plowing through you also. Drill Peck over Brave Bird so you don't kill yourself with recoil against CM Virizion. He gives you a phazer for Chomp and a balloon popper for adamant Dory, while also stacking them spikes for your sweepers. Shed Shell for the spike in Zone popularity.

Skarmory @ Shed Shell
Careful l Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpDef
- Spikes
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Drill Peck

Alright man gl with the team.
