With Wish + Spiky Shield, it's one of the only Steel-types with reliable recovery, and its ability Lightning Rod also means it can wall Rotom-C and block Volt Switch. Offensively, Togedemaru makes a great pivot and revenge killer to threats like Talonflame and Starmie. Unfortunately, unlike other Steel-types that it competes with, Togedemaru is quite frail. While it can deter STAB attacks from special wallbreakers like Exploud and Choice Specs Sylveon, it struggles to tank their stronger coverage: Exploud's Overheat will OHKO Togedemaru. Choice Scarf Togedemaru is especially frail and cannot afford to switch into even resisted attacks from the likes of Dragalge and Indeedee-F. Togedemaru isn't necessarily the strongest either and will struggle versus anything bulky enough that carries strong coverage for retaliation.

Iron Head lets Togedemaru force out Fairy-types, though Zing Zap is sometimes used instead for its coverage versus Steel- and Water-type walls like Copperajah and Vaporeon. U-turn is essential for gaining momentum after switching into special attackers like Rotom-C and Dragalge. Otherwise, Toxic punishes most switch-ins like Mudsdale and works well with Spiky Shield. U-turn + Toxic is doable at the expense of recovery from Wish. 56 Speed EVs with a Jolly nature mean that Togedemaru will outspeed wallbreakers like Tyrantrum and Exploud.

Flying-types like Talonflame, Mantine, and Xatu rely on Togedemaru to switch into Electric-types like Rotom-C and Heliolisk. In return, these teammates check Fighting- and Ground-types like Passimian, Sirfetch'd, and Silvally-Ground. Defensive Poison-types like Vileplume and Weezing also offer similar synergy. Using Wish is a great way to bring in offensive teammates like Tsareena and Dragalge. U-turn is used for pivoting and to force out Rotom-C. If Togedemaru is unable to KO a target, it can still use Nuzzle for speed control versus some threats like Salazzle and Passimian. Toxic instead hits physical walls like Mudsdale and Quagsire, though note that U-turn is often better when anticipating these Ground-types switching in.

Special attackers like Starmie, Dragalge, and Exploud benefit the most from Togedemaru's pivoting. They in turn deal with the physical walls that prevent Togedemaru from cleaning. Togedemaru succumbs easily to status, especially due to U-turn sometimes triggering Talonflame's and Vileplume's abilities, so clerics like Diancie and Vaporeon are a good call. These two appreciate Togedemaru checking Rotom-C and can remove burns induced by Will-O-Wisp Rotom-C. Try additional pivots like Talonflame, Silvally-Ground, and Xatu to form a VoltTurn core and preserve momentum.

Super Fang is one way to hit walls on the switch in and force them to recover health or, in the case of Mudsdale, do worthwhile damage early-game. Substitute + Toxic work together for a stallbreaking set that finds setup opportunities versus the Electric- and Fairy-types that Togedemaru walls.

Checks and Counters

**Ground-types and Ground-type Coverage**: Bulkier Ground-types like Mudsdale and Quagsire tank Togedemaru's attacks and easily OHKO it with Earthquake. Silvally-Ground is especially notable for its Speed tier and how offensively punishing it can be if it nets a free switch in on Togedemaru's weaker or ineffective moves. Other Pokemon that run Ground-type coverage like Aerodactyl and Drapion will also force out Togedemaru and revenge kill non-Choice Scarf sets.

**Bulky Attackers**: Given its frailty, Togedemaru often fails to defeat anything bulky enough with strong coverage for it. Fighting-types like Machamp, Passimian, and Sirfetch'd are an issue for it, and so are other bulky attackers like Copperajah and Guzzlord.

**Physical Walls**: Togedemaru lacks wallbreaking power and won’t won't easily deal with walls like Vileplume and Weezing. Even some other defensive foes like Talonflame and Vaporeon are troublesome because they can burn Togedemaru, struggle little with its bulkier sets, and can take advantage of certain moves Choice Scarf sets lock into.

With Wish + Spiky Shield, it’s one of the only Steel-types with reliable recovery, and its ability Lightning Rod means that it can block Volt Switch while still walling the coverage from Rotom-C and Heliolisk.(put more emphasis on Rotom-C because a Volt Switch denier that's pretty unphazed by it is cool) Offensively, Togedemaru makes a great pivot and revenge killer to threats like Talonflame and Starmie. Unfortunately, and unlike other Steel-types that it competes with, Togedemaru is quite frail. While it can deter STAB attacks from special breakers like Exploud and Choice Specs Sylveon, it struggles to tank their stronger coverage: Exploud’s Overheat will OHKO Togedemaru. (you can also note that Choice Scarf sets actually get folded by resisted hits like Dragalge's Draco Meteor and Indeedee-F's Expanding Force) Its frailty is also a concern offensively, as Togedemaru isn’t necessarily the strongest either and it will struggle versus anything bulky enough that carries strong coverage.

U-turn is a priority to gain momentum after switching into special attackers like Rotom-C and Dragalge. Otherwise, Toxic punishes most switch-ins like Mudsdale and works well with Spiky Shield. U-turn + Toxic is doable, but Iron Head is usually too valuable for threatening Fairy-types and preventing Togedameru from becoming too passive. 56 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature means that Todgedameru will outspeed wallbreakers like Tyrantrum and Exploud.

Bulkier teammates like Talonflame, Mudsdale, and Xatu rely on Togedamuru to switch into special attackers like Rotom-C, Vanilluexe, and Heliolisk.

The latter is also a good countermeasure to Fire-types like Salazzle, and you ought to use additional teammates like Diancie and Vaporeon to discourage Fire-type attacks from wallbreakers like Exploud and Indeedee-F.

====

Fighting-types like Machamp, Passimian, and(Space)Sirfetch'd are an issue for it, and so are other bulky attackers like Copperajah and Guzzlord.
