[OVERVIEW]
Togedemaru stands out as one of the best Choice Scarf users in the tier thanks to its solid Speed tier, great offensive and defensive typing that allows it to check Pokemon such as Archeops and Whimsicott, ability to gain momentum through U-turn, and good abilities. Its unique defensive typing and access to recovery in Wish also makes Togedemaru a useful special wall for taking on certain difficult threats such as Vanilluxe and Vikavolt. However, despite its excellent set of resistances, its mediocre bulk and an unreliable recovery move limits Togedemaru's ability to directly switch into threats. Sitting at base 96 Speed, it is one of the fastest Choice Scarf users and can outspeed boosted setup sweepers like Omastar and Silvally-Fairy. However, Togedemaru fails to OHKO many of these Pokemon due to its only average Attack stat and coverage options. Togedemaru faces strong competition as a specially defensive Steel-type from the noticeably bulkier Silvally-Steel and Galarian Stunfisk and as a Wish passer from Vaporeon and Aromatisse due to their much higher HP stats.

name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Zing Zap
move 2: Iron Head
move 3: U-turn
move 4: Toxic / Encore
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Lightning Rod / Iron Barbs
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Toxic is useful for crippling switch-ins like Palossand and Vikavolt rather than merely pivoting out with U-turn, while Encore is more effective at annoying bulky setup sweepers such as Scrafty. Lightning Rod is useful for pivoting into Volt Switch users such as Rotom and Heliolisk, but the chip damage from Iron Barbs is preferred if there is already an Electric-immune Pokemon on the team. Iron Barbs also helps defeat opposing Choice Scarf Togedemaru. While Togedemaru can be used throughout the match to tank some resisted hits, it is best brought in as a revenge killer or through slow pivots such as Lanturn and Uxie, which form a VoltTurn core with it. Due to Togedemaru's poor damage output, it appreciates entry hazards from the likes of Gigalith and Froslass to help wear down its foes. Wallbreakers such as Virizion and Magmortar can also help wear down the opposing team so Togedemaru can potentially clean late-game, and they also serve as checks for threats to Togedemaru such as Palossand and Vikavolt, respectively.
[SET]
name: Wish Passer
move 1: Wish
move 2: Spiky Shield
move 3: Iron Head
move 4: U-turn / Toxic
item: Heavy-Duty Boots / Leftovers / Rocky Helmet
ability: Iron Barbs / Lightning Rod
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 HP / 228 SpD / 28 Spe
Iron Head is Togedemaru's attacking move of choice because it better threatens Pokemon Togedemaru is aiming to check such as Vanilluxe and Whimsicott and does not leave Togedemaru unable to hit Ground-types. U-turn allows Togedemaru to slightly circumvent its passivity by pivoting on predicted switches, but Toxic cripples many Pokemon that Togedemaru cannot do much damage to such as Vikavolt. Heavy-Duty Boots significantly decreases Togedemaru's weakness to Spikes, Leftovers helps make it slightly less reliant on Wish, and Rocky Helmet in tandem with Iron Barbs allows Togedemaru to punish a wide variety of contact attackers. However, Lightning Rod can again be used instead to stop Volt Switch users such as Vikavolt and Heliolisk. A Jolly nature alongside 28 Speed EVs allows Togedemaru to outspeed Modest Vanilluxe. Togedemaru can support many teammates lacking recovery with Wish, such as Weezing and Uxie, both of which also help against the Fighting-and Ground-types that threaten Togedemaru. Setup sweepers that can take advantage of Fighting- and Ground-types, such as Nasty Plot Mesprit and Quiver Dance Ribombee, appreciate being brought in through Togedemaru's U-turn.
