[OVERVIEW]

- Tomohawk has a unique niche in the metagame due to its access to Prankster Haze and Roost.
- With EV investment in its bulk, it can remove boosts from setup sweepers and sometimes can stall out their attacks.
- Otherwise, Tomohawk can run an effective offensive support set, providing utility alongside its fantastic STAB coverage.
- Tomohawk's access to Prankster Rain Dance and Healing Wish also allows Tomohawk to support rain teams well.
- Furthermore, its access to both Rapid Spin and Stealth Rock allows it to control hazards.

- However, the metagame has shifted to account for Tomohawk's most common defensive set, meaning that Tomohawk can crumble to a setup sweeper's unboosted attacks. Additionally, many wallbreakers are equipped to take on Tomohawk, either with Toxic or with super effective coverage moves.
- On the other hand, Tomohawk's offensive sets face massive competition with Tornadus-T, who sports higher speed, U-turn, and Regenerator.
- Additionally, the combination of Hurricane and Focus Blast is rather unreliable, but the high base power is necessary for Tomohawk to hit appreciably hard.

Moves
========

- Tomohawk can reliably remove hazards with Rapid Spin many times throughout the match.
- However, Tomohawk can set Stealth Rock if the team needs to run another hazard remover.
- Air Slash prevents Tomohawk from becoming Taunt bait and allows it to chip down Pokemon it walls.
- However, Hurricane is a more powerful alternative that allows Tomohawk to OHKO Mega Pinsir, Hawlucha, and opposing offensive Tomohawk.

Set Details
========

- Coba Berry allows Tomohawk to tank Supersonic Skystrike from Landorus-T and Gyarados with ease, allowing Tomohawk to wall these Pokemon. It also buys a free turn to tank Aerilate Return from Mega Pinsir, Hurricane from opposing Tomohawk, and Acrobatics from Hawlucha, giving Tomohawk a free turn to retaliate with Air Slash or Hurricane.
- Rocky Helmet deals chip damage to contact attackers, discouraging the opponent from clicking U-turn against Tomohawk.
- Icium Z allows Tomohawk to Haze away boosts and heal at the same time, allowing it to neutralize a sweeper without risking Tomohawk fainting.

Moves
========

- Haze is generally preferred for this set. Even if offensive Tomohawk can't outlast a boosted sweeper's unboosted attacks, simply removing the boosts can swing momentum back into the Tomohawk's team's favor.
- Alternatively, Tomohawk is one of the few viable users of Rapid Spin, so it can be run if its team needs hazard control.
- If Tomohawk needs to act as a stallbreaker, Taunt denies the opponent from crippling Tomohawk with status or recovering off Tomohawk's hits.

Set Details
========

- With a Timid Nature, Tomohawk outspeeds offensive Heatran, maximum Speed Zygarde, and defensive Jumbao.
- Flyinium Z is preferred, as it allows Tomohawk to fire off a 100% accurate Supersonic Skystrike and act as a great Knock Off switch-in. However, Life Orb boosts the power of all of Tomohawk's moves at the cost of recoil damage. 29 HP IVs should be run with Life Orb to minimize said recoil damage.
- However, if Tomohawk opts for Taunt, a Modest nature and Life Orb should be run in order to 2HKO Mega Sableye with Hurricane and OHKO Aggron with Focus Blast, as well as deal as much damage as possible to Zapdos.

Moves
=======

- Healing Wish lets its teammates play much more aggressively early-game, while Memento gives them easier setup opportunities.
- Rapid Spin removes hazards from Tomohawk’s side of the field, leaving its teammates' hazards set and allowing Pelipper to more easily run its Choice Specs set.
- Focus Blast nails common rain team checks like Ferrothorn and Tyranitar who might comfortably switch into Hurricane.
- Haze is a final option to act as an emergency neuter to setup sweepers like Shell Smash Necturna.

Usage Tips
========

Team Options
========

- Pelipper and Mega Swampert are mandatory on rain teams, as Pelipper's Drizzle and Mega Swampert's Swift Swim and Electric-type immunity and too useful to pass up. Tomohawk supports them by allowing Pelipper to run its more offensively threatening Choice Specs set and grants Mega Swampert easy sweeping opportunities.
- Ferrothorn is an excellent pivot on rain teams, wearing down Zapdos and providing Spikes and Knock Off support.
- Ash-Greninja and Volkraken fit well on to rain teams as wallbreakers. Ash-Greninja's Spikes support makes it easier for Mega Swampert to sweep, while Volkraken's Fire-type STAB, though weakened under rain, helps to break open bulky Grass-types like Ferrothorn, Tangrowth, and Jumbao.
- Tapu Koko ensures that Tornadus-T won't wear down its teammates. It can lure in bulky Grass-types and pivot out with U-turn.
- Hawlucha, paired with Tapu Koko, takes advantage of most anything that Mega Swampert can't touch, making it a powerful sweeper on Rain teams.
- Shell Smash Necturna thrives off of the hyper offensive playstyle of rain teams, where Landorus-T and Heatran are extremely pressured, and appreciates Tomohawk's Memento for an easier setup.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

- A specialized offensive support set consisting of Hurricane and three of Stealth Rock, Healing Wish, Memento, Taunt, and Haze and Flyinium Z can be run on hyper offensive teams. These teams appreciate Tomohawk's ability to wear down Flying-type resists with its powerful Supersonic Skystrike, its ability to set Stealth Rock, give a sweeper a second chance at sweeping, provide setup opportunities, shut down opposing Defog or hazards, or erasing the opponents' boosts. While this set is fairly customizable, it really only fits well on purely offensive teams.
- An offensive set with Intimidate can be run to allow Tomohawk to tank more hits while firing off its powerful STAB moves, but losing out on Prankster Haze is often not worth it.
- Toxic can be used to wear down the opposing team, but it's hard to fit onto Tomohawk's movesets due to its access to less distributed utility moves.
- The combination of Substitute with Toxic, Haze, or Taunt with 212 HP EVs can be used to annoy teams that rely on Toxic to deal with Tomohawk. The HP EV investment means that Chansey will fail to break Tomohawk's Substitute with one Seismic Toss.
- Yawn can force switches against most Pokemon, including setup sweepers, but the ubiquity of Tapu Koko ensures that Electric Terrain will be on the field most of the time.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Psychic-types**: Psychic-types like Mega Alakazam, Tapu Lele, Mega Latios, and Hoopa-U can OHKO Tomohawk with ease. They can tank defensive Tomohawk's Air Slash with ease but have a harder time against offensive variants' Hurricane. Mega Medicham and Aurumoth must be wary of Tomohawk's Flying-type STAB moves, but they can 2HKO defensive Tomohawk and OHKO offensive variants. Although uncommon, Assault Vest Slowking is one of offensive Tomohawk's most relaible counters due to its massive special bulk and Regenerator.

**Fairy-types**: Mega Diancie, Mega Mawile, and Magearna might not like taking a Focus Blast, but they don't really mind Hurricane or Air Slash due to their secondary typings, and they almost always carry STAB moves that scare away Tomohawk. Clefable and Jumbao take advantage of defensive Tomohawk's passivity and threaten it out with Moonblast.

**Flying-types**: Tornadus-T, opposing Tomohawk, and Mega Pinsir can OHKO all Tomohawk variants barring Coba Berry. Although defensive Tomohawk can tank their Z-moves with Coba Berry, Flyinium Z Landorus-T or Gyrarados can still break through OHKO defensive Tomohawk with Knock Off support. Hawlucha doesn't like having its boosts Hazed away, but it can wear down defensive Tomohawk in a pinch.

**Electric-types**: Tapu Koko, Zapdos, and Krilowatt have the resistances and/or bulk to deal with offensive Tomohawk adequately and defensive Tomohawk well, and Tomohawk is forced out by their Electric-type STAB moves.

**Toxic**: Toxic users like Zygarde, Pajantom, and Gliscor wear down defensive Tomohawk significantly, forcing it out to reset the Toxic timer.

**Other Wallbreakers**: Volkraken, Ash-Greninja, Kyurem-B, and Heatran have the wallbreaking power necessary to break apart defensive Tomohawk, but they struggle to switch directly into offensive variants.
