Top Ten WiiWare / Virtual Console Games

Moved from a place where you're going to get "lolol wrong place" responses to a place where you'll get serious responses.

Megaman 9 and 10 are great for any Megaman lover or anyone who wants to jump on. I'd recommend getting MM10 first though, due to the Easy mode.

World of Goo is a truly great game. I'd recommend it to anyone as a first buy.

SMB: The Lost Levels is a hardcore Mario Fan's dream come true. The difficulty levels on that game are insane, with every level being harder than the next. Took me a day to beat World 1. Seriously.

LiT (I think that's how you spell it) is a good puzzle game. I was hooked for around a month. The levels follow a unique concept of light and dark, and the bosses are fairly tough.

Of course, all of these are only from the select few games I have from WiiWare. So, I'd get more comments before you buy one of the above. Except for World of Goo. Buy it now. +)

Apart from the Megaman games or any others you might feel nostalgia over, I strongly recommend the BIT.TRIP series. My friend has them and they're pretty cool, you might want to find some game play video's if it's not your thing. Think of it as pong but awesome.

World of Goo should be the first thing you get. It is an extremely original, fun game. The gameplay is unlike anything I've seen before. I really can't say enough about the art style, it adds a lot of flavour. Its story, or atmosphere, is subtle, mysterious, funny, creepy, and depressing. There is something in this game that reminds me of Invader Zim, although the two pieces of media have very little in common. The music is quite epic, not something that would seem out of place in a big name video game. The length of the game is adequate, certainly for what you pay.

All in all, this is a game everyone should play. You probably won't find better value for your money in anything.

I also have Lost Winds, which is nice. It's cute, and also has a nice "atmosphere", though in an entirely different way than World of Goo. I'd probably say it was worth the $15, but I certainly have bigger priorities.

Stuff i know of which is awesome includes World of Goo, both Lost Winds games and that Icarus thingy. Those pretty much are top to me, like most others said :P

I gravitate towards artsy or comically dark games mostly, for example Mother 3, so yeah.

1. Cave Story(WiiWare). Represents everything good about NES and SNES 2D platforming. It's got a quirky premise, and good writing for that kind of game. You can download the PC version for free, but the WiiWare version costs as much as an MW2 map pack(lool) and you get a lot of new stuff out of it. All three difficulties are just right. The remixed soundtrack and improved graphics are nice too, it's just a shame there's no sound test.

2. Majora's Mask(N64 VC). I had rented this game when it was out for the N64, but never got into it. I was waiting for the VC release for a long time, and was stoked to finally play it. I said I'd write a review for this earlier, but never got around to it. So let's get right to it: personally, I think Majora's Mask was the best Zelda game of all time. OF ALL TIME. I'm gonna compare this game as a sequel to OoT; it really shows how creative developers can get, with a smaller team working with the old OoT engine and character models to create an entirely new world. The writing is great; the NPCs' actions are a lot less mundane and you have to interact with people a lot more, yet the time system retains that world on your shoulders feeling there is in Zelda. Better than Oblivion's NPCs for reference, haha. They replaced Ganon as a villain really well, but I won't spoil anything. The tunes are usually a lot more varied and catchy. The difficulty is a level above most 3D Zelda games, but if you've played Zelda a lot and can use the ingame maps then you shouldn't need a walkthrough.

3. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards(N64 VC). This game needs extra patience to appreciate, even for Kirby. The difficulty is too low. What this game is remembered for instead is its also delicious soundtrack, cult followed characters, and visual method of storytelling ala Brawl.

4. Donkey Kong Country 2(SNES VC). Great game throughout, but I could never finish it. Damn retro difficulty. Good soundtrack, do I see a pattern here? If anything I'd tell you to listen to the K. Rool battle theme, Mine theme, and Bramble Blast theme on Youtube and make you decide from that.

5. Mega Man 2(NES VC). Good Mega Man game to start with. Easiest of the originals, but still more enjoyable if you use save states haha ;_;. Sounds like Mega Man.

6. Super Mario RPG(SNES VC). Fun game with a cult following. Non-traditional JRPG with about as much platforming as leveling. Anyone can enjoy it to some degree.

1. Ocarina of Time - one of the greatest games ever made, created during a video game golden age, and the first representation of Hyrule in 3D.

2. Majora's Mask - I'll get flak for this but this game is better than OoT. It's a frustrating game but it's also so lovely and engrossing at the same time. No Zelda game to this date matches its character depth.

3. Super Mario 64 - So many hours of fun here. I grew up with this game and I had a blast working my way towards 120 stars. Finally 100%ing the game gave me an incredible sense of accomplishment.

Those are the only ones I would get tbh, maybe Mario Kart 64

Definately get Majora's Mask, you will not be disappointed. Great plot, wonderful characters, and an incredible atmosphere unlike ANY other game... that's what really sets it apart. It's difficult to describe in words how special this game is. If you haven't played it yet, you need to. I'm actually in full agreement with Zach, it's better than OoT.

Another hidden gem I'd recommend to you from the N64 era is Ogre Battle 64. If you enjoy RPGs and SRPGs with a good, lengthy story, you'll really enjoy this game. It even has branching story arcs depending on your choices made in-game, with multiple endings! There is a large cast and you can fully customize your army, but the game requires a good deal of patience and battles are slow, so be warned. Still, OB64 is a wonderful choice.

God forbid we support the industry we love.

I'm not too familiar with any WiiWare titles but if you have any nostalgic moments with Virtual Console games grab them for sure. Star Fox 64 is my favorite in particular.

Mmm, i'd definately say BIT.TRIP.RUNNER or any of the bt series is good. Also Pheonix Wright, World of Goo, Pokemon Rumble, Cave Story

but if you're looking at virtual console games, maybe Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, etc.
