Hi everyone!

Goddess Briyella and I came up with an idea together to write about for The Smog. The idea to write about the S rank Pokemon in XY RU, since the tier is fairly new. Thus, she will be the co-author! This is my first time writing for The Smog, and I have never posted any RU team rates or anything like that, so I'll show my ladder ranking on my alternative account: http://i.imgur.com/2SxQ5NT.jpg
I'm not amazing at battling in RU, but I know it well enough to write and talk about it. x)

So here's the outline!:

What are the top threats in XY RU?

XY RU is a very new tier, and tier shifts are still occurring. There are many threats in the tier, but in this article we talk about the top threats at the moment.

Delphox
Type: Fire / Psychic
Abilities: Blaze, Magician
Base Stats: 75 HP / 69 Atk / 72 Def / 114 SpA / 100 SpD / 104 Spe

Delphox's docile looks may be deceiving. It is one of the newly introduced Fire-types in generation six, and it found a home in RU. There are many reasons why Delphox is a force to face. It has great stats; Base 114 Special Attack and base 104 Speed is no joke, it can hit and outpace many Pokemon in the RU metagame. In addition, it can threaten most of the tier with its coverage moves. Delphox's STAB moves have pretty decent coverage with each other, it even gets Grass Knot to punish the Rock-type Pokemon that try and switch into it. Speaking about switching... it gets Switcheroo! This allows Delphox to cripple walls by switching items, and this makes it an effective Choice Item user. It can revenge kill nicely with it's high Speed and Choice Scarf, and plow through with its high Special Attack with Choice Specs equipped. Delphox can also run a multitude of sets ranging from All Out Attacker to Substitute + Calm Mind.

Slowking is arguably the best counter to Delphox. It resists both of Delphox's STAB moves and takes little damage from Grass Knot. It can recover off damage with Slack Off as well. Aromatisse makes a good check to Delphox as it can switch into most of its moves thanks to its bulk, but repeated Psyshocks hurt.

Escavalier
Type: Bug / Steel
Abilities: Swarm, Shell Armor, Overcoat
Base Stats: 70 HP / 135 Atk / 105 Def / 60 SpA / 105 SpD / 20 Spe

Escavalier has a rare Bug / Steel typing. Its typing only leaves it susceptible to one type, Fire, and it gets a plethora amount of resistances and one immunity. In addition, Escavalier's Overcoat ability got buffed, allowing it to switch into powder-based moves. That's not the end; Escavalier has a new toy to play with. In generation six, a new item called Assault Vest was released, boosting the welder's Special Defense by 1.5x in cost of only being allowed to use damaging moves. This along with Escavalier's great typing makes it an effective tank, and Escavalier does not have to give up much. Escavalier also has a high Attack stat of 135, making a great user of the Assault Vest item. It also gets great moves such as Knock Off, Drill Run, and Megahorn. Even though Escavalier is really slow, it is a force to be reckoned with.

Many Fire-types counter Escavalier. Moltres and Emboar are the best counters, though the latter has to watch out for Drill Run. Both OHKO Escavalier with their respective STAB moves. Besides Fire-types, Pokemon such as Steelix take pitiful damage from Escavalier's move and can retaliate with a strong Earthquake, or phaze with Roar or Dragon Tail.

Froslass
Type: Ice / Ghost
Abilities: Snow Cloak, Cursed Body
Base Stats: 70 HP / 80 Atk / 70 Def / 80 SpA / 70 SpD / 110 Spe

Froslass was once regarded as the best setup Pokemon in UU tier and ended up getting banned to BL, but now it found a new home in XY RU. Froslass's blistering Speed makes it an ideal user of Spikes. It has access to Taunt, which render other entry hazard setter Pokemon useless, and it's Ghost-typing allows it to block Rapid Spin. It doesn't stop there, Froslass has access to Destiny Bond to take down a foe with it, and its ability Curse Body is very helpful as well. These qualities make Froslass a great lead for many offensive teams.

Faster Taunt users make Froslass useless. Cobalion is a good counter since it can Taunt Froslass and KO with Iron Head or setup on it. Mega Banette can also Taunt Froslass thanks to its Prankster ability and can KO with Shadow Claw.

Rhyperior
Type: Ground / Rock
Abilities: Lightingrod, Solid Rock, Reckless
Base Stats: 115 HP / 140 Atk / 130 Def / 55 SpA / 55 SpD / 40 Spe

Even though Rhyperior has many weaknesses, it is one true Rock-type. It has enormous HP, Attack, and Defense stats that make it a good tank. However, like most Ground / Rock Pokemon, it has a subpar special stats and Speed. Nonetheless, it is a great Pokemon in the RU metagame. It has access to Stealth Rock, arguably one of the best moves in the game, and great bulk. It can easily switch into Pokemon such as Moltres lacking Hidden Power Grass. It can phaze with Dragon Tail and break Substitutes with Rock Blast, making it a great team supporter. Aside from a defensive set, Rhyperior can also utilize it's Attack stat well. When Rhyperior is equipped with a Choice Band, it's already high Attack is raised to extreme levels. Rhyperior has access to the EdgeQuake combination, making it a fearful sweeper.

Gastrodon is one of the best counters to Rhyperior. It takes little damage from Rhyperior's STAB moves, and can retaliate with a super effective Scald and attempt to burn Rhyperior. Alomomola is also a really good counter; It can burn Rhyperior with Scald, or Toxic it and Wish pass to its teammates.

Overall, these Pokemon are amazing, and they should be considered and added to your team. They define the metagame and make what it is now.

We will add more things to it, but thanks for reading, and I hope you like our idea!

As long as it's emphasized that the tier is brand new and that tier shifts are still ocurring, then I'm in favor of approving this. Although, the title may be better off with just "top threats in XY RU", and then save the S-rank for a future article when things are more stable. Also remember to bring up their checks and counters that exploit their weaknesses, and how they can be managed.

Okay, thank you! I'll add that later. ^-^

Edit: I added checks and counters!
