This team got me up to #1 in the smogon OU ladder, and it has been my main asset in most battles counting tournaments, the Frontier and casual battles the past month.
Tyranitar (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 Atk/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Ice Beam
- Superpower
- Dark Pulse
- Flamethrower
---
The lead and pride of the team. Desinged for those lead Azelfs, getting the advantage early by killing the set up pokemon and keep the sash for a come back. A common scenario, Dark pulse kills the Azelf that Stealth Rocked, opponent sents in scizor which things its a boah thus slower, and gets FThrowered, while ttar is still healthy and with the sash. Ice beam is mainly for Gliscor and Hippowdon, as well as Zapdos or a Salamence that will hit the sash. Superpower KOs other ttars and hits blissey and heatran hard. Starting SStorm(being immune to it on par with sash)as well as unpredictability is the main reason I am using this set, giving me the early advantage on most battles.
Originally I had Crunch over Dark Pulse and Atk Evs over Sp.Atk, but after suggestion made by ViL for grounds I swapped to a special set to be a threat to Hippowdon with Ice beam. Still the Dark pulse Flinch rate is really handy with the speed, which makes sure it outspeeds max spd adamant scizors, defensive gliscors, defensive rotoms and 240 spd Celebi,Zapdos.
Bronzong @ Occa Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/88 Atk/168 SDef
Sassy nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Earthquake
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock
- Explosion
---
Occa berry is easily of the best item I used on a succesful Bronzong. This is my initial switch to Metagross, Blissey, Jirachi and other Bronzongs. The opponent switches in a Fire typing or Fire attackign pokemon(Infernape,Heatran, Salamence or Zapdos)usually when I set up my SR. I then take the FBlast/Fire Move having ~60% left after occa, and kill with EQ(explosion is Salamence/Zapdos case). Blowing up on another pokemon after using occa against fire pokemon is also cool. I could use Heatproof and Leftovers though I much prefer to use it as a DD ttar counter, or switch it into locked tran Earth power. Serves as my weavile, mamoswine and Shaymin S(most of the times) counter.
Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/100 Spd/88 SAtk/68 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Psychic
- Recover
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power [Fire]
---
This thing has swept many times despite its defensive set up. My switch in Suicune and Swampert, it scares them of and hits the predictable Infernape or Scizor with the right move to KO. The sp def Evs lets it take a Shadow Ball from Gengar and KO back, no one expects Psychic from this little annoyance if you hid it well until apropriate. The speed Evs let it outspeed Mamoswine, so it cant kill with Ice fang, most dont expect fast Celebies. Also, the speed usually lets it outspeed Salamences, Zapdos' with the unexpected Psychic on their switch in(factoring SR damage) and kill if not heavily sp def oriented. Also outspeeds Adamant Lucario.
The main advantage with my Celebi is that it can act sorts of wall towards certain pokemon that block my sweepers and KO attacking threats that will switch in with the right moves.
Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Spd/252 SAtk/4 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Substitute
- Will-o-wisp
---
I originally had scarftran here, the most OU pokemon of the past month, as well as Explosion(Naive). Then I changed to a sub explosion set, and last I changed WoW over explosion. The main reason is that I dont want to forcefully blow up my Heatran for that Gyarados or Salamence, I will gladly catch them with a Burn and end their threat. Also, Rhyperior is now less threatening and if I get a Sub on another CSHeatran this becomes an invaluable sweeping monster with its type coverage. Usually I switch in Celebi, Predicted BPunches of lategame Scizors( that found out about Celebi's HP), Zapdos' Heat Wave or Rotom's WoW.
Rotom-w @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Trick
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Hydro Pump
---
Rotom is my revenge killer, and Hydro pump is an amazing weapon in its arsenal to hit Scarf Heatran and Infernape mostly. Trick can be used on Blissey,Snorlax or another wall pokemon that sets up lategame to force it into submission. Works really well with Heatran, and I can switch forth between the two. Sadly, no SS immunity and constant switching in SR make me wish some times I had a rest talk variant of it. The best part of this Rotom is that most expect the Scarfers to be Modest, and I get a lot of kills on +1DDGyarados, or risk stay on a Salamence that desides to DD and hit it twice killing it.
Flygon (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spd/4 SDef
Lonely nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Fire Blast
- Roost
- Outrage
- Earthquake
---
Last but not least Flygon. This is usually my last pokemon 80% of the time, and with its great coverage I end up finishing up my opponents team. STAB EQ and Outrage from a 426 attack is nothing to look down on(More powerful than Max attack Metagross MMash). The SR resist makes sure I will be near max health when it first switches in and roost as well as SStorm immunity helps it stay around longer against the likes of HeatWave/TW/Tbolt/Roost zapdos which my teams finds difficult to counter. Also serves as my back up CSHeatran counter if I get wrong predictions and it kills my own tran/rotom resisting FB and EQ(with a recovery move).
What is debatable is that a Stone edge would really help me finishing of Zapdos and Gyarados' without having to resort to Outrage and get locked in, FB is too valuable for Skarmory/Scizor/Forretress(steels that will switch in predicting Outrage)to bypass though. So adding it in roost's place is what I am thinking most, though it wont be a Zapdos/tran counter anymore.
Still a great pokemon overall, its much underrated and boosts great resistances and Stab moves.
I am retiring this team since the ttar set as well as my general gameplay and originality became not so unpredictable after a month of using the same team against the same people and I took this as a chance to post my first smogon RMT after a really long while.
Threat list to be added soon.
