Hey guys, FallenSword912 here.
For this team, a decided to build a team around Assault Vest Kangaskhan, instead of using my old team that relied on the pure power of Slurpuff, Gatr and Typhlosion. right now the team is undefeated, with some impressive wins against people with far higher rating than me taking place (sitting at 1437 at the time of this writing). I am extremely proud of this team, with a mix of traditional smogon sets as well as some sets I tailored to the needs of my team. I'd love to hear what you guys think!
Without further ado, here's the team!
Dyke (Kangaskhan) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Scrappy
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 200 HP / 252 Atk / 56 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Return
- Drain Punch
- Power-Up Punch
- Sucker Punch
This thing is an absolute force. Assault vest is the perfect choice for Kanga in my opinion, since it already has recovery in Drain Punch and a boosting move in Power-Up Punch. Sucker Punch is awesome and has completely turned the tide of many a match of mine. STAB Return is also great, and I prefer to use it over Double-Edge.
Majestic (Xatu) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Bounce
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Night Shade
- U-turn
- Thunder Wave
- Roost
When I building my team, I needed a cleric-esque pokemon. Since I wanted to use mostly "new" pokes if I had a chance (pokes I haven't used on a team before), I decided to opt for Xatu over Audino, because while he lacks heal bell, he has the ability to take any status move/entry hazard move and reflect it back, which is even more handy at times. Night shade is an awesome move because it always deals 100 damage, to ANY pokemon. It sounds underwhelming, but It really comes in handy. U-turn is great to gain a bit of momentum and to grab a free switch when finishing off a severely weakened poke. Thunder Wave and Roost I find myself not using as much, and I’m thinking of changing Twave to toxic. Also, his gigantic knock off weakness gives me headaches a lot.
U mad? (Ferroseed) @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Def / 128 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Protect
The best NFE in NU (sorry Gurdurr) plays a huge role on my team as a defensive wall, spikes stackers, and staller. First I set up stealth rock, then leech seed, (protecting when need be) and when I feel like there is a switch coming, I set up a layer of spikes. His only weaknesses are knock off and stray Flamethrowers, and he’s probably the most reliable member of my team.
im rattled (Kabutops) @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
A lot of people find Rapid Spin Kabutops to be underwhelming, but he hasn’t failed me yet. Waterfall hits pretty hard and stone edge destroys things, but I find myself only switching into him for a spin, not to attack something.
Wild Boy (Mesprit) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Ice Beam
- Psychic
- Signal Beam
- Thunderbolt
Choice Scarf Mesprit is incredibly powerful, especially because nobody expects it. I can't tell you how many times someone's liepard has taunted me expecting a stealth rock or something, only to get smashed instead. I find it actually outspeeds basically all non-scarfed pokes, (reaches about 390 speed I'm pretty sure) so Timid Nature isn't necessary. Signal Beam is necessary to counter Malamar, who normally would wreak havoc on my team. Ice Beam nets a lot of OHKOs too from people who don't see it coming.
Rawr (Pyroar) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Rivalry
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Hyper Voice
- Flamethrower
- Will-O-Wisp
I was considering having Pyroar to be choice specs, but I thought it would be overkill to have two choiced special pokes. Being able to switch between moves is also a huge help, and unlike Mesprit it doesn’t struggle with speed (342 with a timid nature). However, he isn’t the unstoppable force that Kanga or Mesprit is, and his power occasionally feels a bit underwhelming. I’m also thinking of changing will-o-wisp, because I don’t feel like he’d be able to take a physical hit after even with a burn.
