Rejected Tournament changes

I think auth should get blocked from modifying the rules of the tournament like 30 or 45 seconds prior to the start of the tour. I feel like people deserve to know what they are getting into rather than just getting forced into a type of tournament that might not interest one's interest or playstyle. With the recent introduction of "Blitz" rule, this becomes more relevant because while some people like faster games, many others like to think before acting.

I 100% disagree with this. While yes I do see the potential pros of allowing this I think that the potential cons outweigh them completely. An alternate course of action would be simply to just auto-add a set amount of time onto the auto start timer each time a rule is introduced, changed, or removed. This would effectively be a compromise of sorts to your current proposal.

I think that even my proposed compromise is a bit silly, but its a compromise nonetheless. Overall, I find the system completely fine as it is and don't see a reason for it to change. This problem could be solved with a bit more attentive auth.

You can always just nope out of a tour with /tour leave before anything even happens so that you aren't bothered with multiple games you don't want to play (if it's something like a double elimination for instance).

Auth can modify a rule last minute before there's even time to leave the tour, and if player(s) leaves after the tour starts, other players will be getting tour wins simply because of the player(s) who dropped out due to the format not being to their liking... I feel like tournaments should create an environment in which the player who played really skillfully should have the better chance of winning (discounting hax and other randomness which affect the outcome that are outta the control of the players), and one which doesn't force people to leave unless they have some unforseen circumstances which forces them to drop out.

On that note, I think BP's suggestion of having additional time added after every rulechange sounds good for me...

There's no consequences to leaving any tour. If the tour is for points with some bot that tracks points, then the mods will be responsible and not add custom rules in a weird way like that.

In ZU the auth often type /exclude on tournaments with wacky or a lot of rules. I believe that most bots that keep a leaderboard have this sort of thing. I may be mistaken though.

My preferred solution would be /tour pause and /tour unpause, with second-precision, that would pause/unpause autostart timers in signups, and pause/unpause dqtimers when the tournament has started. With the remaining time info sent into the chat. Bot/button automation could be improved to minimize the feeling that the host is fighting against time to make sure everything is set properly, but it seems like the existing commands can't guarantee a timer to start where it left off with much precision. You may want to restart the autostart timer to the initial value in some cases, but in others where you have clearly stated what the tournament is going to be (named it straight away), you may just want some moments to not feel rushed while you scramble to set the rules, and have it resume to the nearest second.

Rejecting this on the basis that it'd reduce the ability to joke around with tours without any real benefit.

Basically comes down to this, if someone's doing annoying things in tours that matter, tell a room owner.
