Toxapex is an amazing defensive Pokemon and pivot due to its great bulk, good defensive typing in Poison / Water, and Regenerator ability. Scald is great for spreading burns, allowing Toxapex to take on physical attackers even better. Recover combined with Black Sludge helps its longevity and makes it problematic for a lot of Pokemon to take down. Haze is very useful for checking setup sweepers such as Bisharp, Gyarados, and Kommo-o. Toxic Spikes cripples the opposing team by poisoning Pokemon upon entry. They work well against Dragon-, Dark-, and Ghost-type teams. Toxic is another option for directly crippling Pokemon instead of relying on them to switch in, and it also allows Toxapex to poison Flying-types and Levitate users. Maximum investment in HP and Defense along with a Bold nature allows Toxapex to check threats such as Bisharp, Gyarados, and Dracovish. Toxapex's main role is to apply defensive pressure on the opposing team and switch into attacks that its teammates can't take very well. Although Toxapex doesn't hit very hard, it can cripple them with status and stall them out with Recover.

Galarian Weezing is a good partner because it provides a Ground immunity thanks to its Levitate and forms a defensive core with Toxapex. Galarian Weezing can also use Defog to prevent Toxapex and the rest of the team from getting overwhelmed by entry hazards. Drapion is immune to Psychic-type attacks that threaten Toxapex and provides useful utility with Knock Off by getting rid of the foe's item. Gengar is an offensive check to Psychic-types and a great revenge killer thanks to its high Speed, Special Attack, and coverage. Toxtricity works well as a wallbreaker and beats opposing Toxapex, which can otherwise be problematic for Poison teams. Salazzle threatens Ferrothorn with its Fire-type attacks, which otherwise is very annoying for Poison teams to deal with.
