Hey everyone. This is the second time I am posting an RMT, the first one was just a gimmick team and obviously no one reviewed that. This time I have tried to put in some effort into building an effective team around Toxapex. I would really appreciate your help in making this team better and pointing out the flaws that it may have (because it probably will).
So as stated in the title, I wanted to build a team around Toxapex. Toxapex generally fears Earthquakes and Electric type moves, so the first member that came into my mind was Flygon.
Flygon is immune to two of Toxapex's more common weaknesses, so I thought that they would be good teammates. Also, Toxapex resists Flygon's common Ice and Fairy type switch ins so the two actually have great synergy.
For my lead, I chose Ferrothorn who could easily set up rocks and spikes and even cause switches with Leech Seed. People do get frustrated when the damage dealt is instantly overcome by lefties and Leech Seed.
For my mega, I chose Charizard X, with a mixed movepool to avoid being weakened by Intimidate which is very common.
And since I had Charizard on my team, I needed a spinner to get rid of hazards for a safe switch in, and I chose Hitmontop for the task because it does have Fake Out and Intimidate support as well.
Finally I chose scarf Xurkitree as a wallbreaker because even without Tail Glow, a base 173 special attack hurts a lot.
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability - Iron Barbs
Sassy Nature +Sp Def -Spd
252 HP 252 Sp Def 4 Def
IVs - 0 Spd
-Stealth Rock
-Spikes
-Leech Seed
-Gyro Ball
Ferrothorn is my lead as stated above. Sets up SR and Leech Seed, then goes for spikes if possible, because Ferrothorn is basically bait for Fire types to switch in. Gyro Ball does decent damage with the negative nature and 0 IVs. I am confused about having Rocky Helmet or Leftovers on Ferrothorn. Without lefties, it becomes dependent on Leech Seed for recovery which can fail for any Grass type switch in. Rocky Helmet does have an advantage of dealing lots of recoil coupled with Iron Barbs for any contact move. Ferrothorn can also act as a pseudo switch in to Fairy types so that the team does not become too reliant on Toxapex for resisting Fairies.
Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability - Regenerator
Bold Nature +Def -Atk
252 HP 252 Def 4 Sp Def
-Scald
-Toxic
-Recover
-Haze
Toxapex has become my favourite Pokemon thanks to it's huge defences and ability to cause rage quits. With Regenerator, Recover and passive recovery in Black Sludge, it is a huge pain to take out. Scald deals moderate damage and is preferred over Liquidation for it's burn chance. However, since I already have Toxic, I should probably be running Liquidation, or try not to use Toxic against physical Pokemon. Recover obviously heals Toxapex and Haze causes people to freak out. I have had a lot of rage quits just because of Haze eliminating Shell Smash and Quiver Dance boosts. Toxapex resists most of the Pokemon that threaten the sweepers in this team so it has good synergy with the other Pokemonn
Flygon @ Dragonium Z
Ability - Levitate
Jolly Nature +Spd -Sp Atk
252 Atk 252 Spd 4 HP
-Dragon Dance
-Dragon Claw
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
Flygon has the best synergy with Toxapex and both if them can easily switch into each other's counters. Once Flygon switches into a Toxapex counter and causes a switch out, it can go for a DD and start sweeping. At +1 it's attacks are fairly strong and Devastating Drake does loads of damage. Earthquake and Stone Edge provide good coverage and help in getting some KOs.
Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability - Blaze / Tough Claws
Hasty Nature +Spd -Def
252 Atk 252 Spd 4 Sp Atk
-Dragon Claw
-Earthquake
-Flame Charge
-Fire Blast
Charizard X is a very strong Pokemon that can cause problems with a mixed set. Charizard generally switches into a weak foe and takes it out with the Flame Charge, thus increasing it's speed. After that it can take out Salamence with Intimidate with Dragon Claw after SR damage. Also even without any significant investment in special attack, it deals massive damage with Fire Blast just from the sheer power of the move and it's already decent Sp Atk stat.
Earthquake again provides coverage.
Hitmontop @ Assault Vest
Ability - Intimidate
Impish Nature +Def -Sp Atk
252 HP 252 Def 4 Sp Def
-Fake Out
-Rapid Spin
-Bullet Punch
-Brick Break
Hitmontop is a full utility Pokemon with Intimidate and Rapid Spin. It can switch into Physical Attackers with its decent bulk and weaken them with Intimidate. Rapid Spin has a lot of importance for a safe Charizard switch in and is therefore a necessary move. Bullet Punch has priority and can be used to take out weakend opponents. Since the Hitmontop was purely for utility, I gave it Brick Break rather than High Jump Kick just to get rid of the odd Reflect and Light Screens. And yeah, Fake out for some free damage I guess.
Xurkitree @ Choice Scarf
Ability - Beast Boost
Timid Nature +Spd -Atk
252 Sp Atk 252 Spd 4 HP
-Volt Switch
-Thunderbolt
-Energy Ball
-Hidden Power Ice
Xurkitree's absurdly high Special attack makes it an excellent wallbreaker with Choice Scarf. Outspeeding a large number of Pokemon with the Timid nature, it's neutral Volt Switches hurt like hell. Thunderbolt rips holes in anything that is not Chansey and HP ice revenge kills Dragons who think they are faster. Energy Ball gets rid of Pokemon with 4x weaknesses such as Mega Swampert.
Ground Types- Apart from Flygon nothing resists Ground types and half of my team is weak to Ground moves.
Taunt - Taunt severely cripples Toxapex and Ferrothorn and limits their usability.
Psychic Types- Apart from Ferrothorn,I don't have any Pokemon that can switch into Psychic moves from the likes of Mega Alakazam.
There are probably more threats and counters to my team, so I would really appreciate your help in improving the team. Unlike my earlier gimmick team, i did put somd thought into making this team so do rate it! Thanks!
