Toxic Spikes Trap Team

Anyways, I've just made a new team on Shoddy, and while it can be effective, It could definetely be better, so tweak to your hearts content!

Weavile (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 40 HP/252 Atk/216 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Aerial Ace
- Brick Break
- Ice Shard
- Pursuit

Gengar is the most popular lead, and pursuit can be a major detriment. A revenge killer at its basest, but he could definetly use some help in the lead-off department.

---
Wobbuffet (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 4 HP/252 Def/252 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Charm
- Encore
- Counter
- Mirror Coat

The blue blob we all love to hate. He sets up tentacruel or deoxys with ease, and is assisted by them with Deoxys's taunt and tentacruel's toxic spikes. Its win-win baby! Also is a great revenge killer, an attribute many forget about him. Mirror Coat + Counter + Lefties can potentially mean two or more kills.

---
Moltres @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP/148 Def/112 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Flamethrower
- Roost
- Substitute
- Protect

Moltres is one of the more replacable members of my team, as he serves as little more than a toxistaller, albeit a good one. I'm certain there are better toxistalling sets out there, so feel free to trash him.

---
Tentacruel (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/48 Atk/36 Spd/172 SDef
Lonely nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
- Surf
- Ice Beam

Infernape counter, spinner, special wall, toxic absorber, and toxic spiker all in one. I love this guy to death, I've lead him to victories outstalling blisseys.

---
Steelix (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Def
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Earthquake
- Explosion
- Gyro Ball
- Double-edge

Again replacable. Im certain there are better sets that will complement my game better. I was thinking a defensively EVd magnezone would do well in his place.

---
Deoxys-e @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/192 Def/36 Spd/28 SDef
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Cosmic Power
- Taunt
- Recover
- Seismic Toss

A masterstroke. A member of my teams' triumvirate of Wobby and Cruel, he taunts anyone in Wobbuffets way and builds himself up to the point where nothing short of a critical hit can kill him, then sweeps with seismic toss. A very effecting Deoxys set, it can also revenge kill anyone at a low percentage with Seismic toss. Completely walled by ghosts, and Wobbuffet is walled by spiritomb, so I'll take suggestions for a replacement of the fourth move. Also my Tauntdos counter. Nothing feels better than taunting a Gyarados after a DD. I assure you.

I don't have time to do a proper rate cause of school tomorrow, but Night Shade > Seismic Toss so you can hit the ghosts you are concerned about, although you have no business staying in on them anyway so its upto you. I will write more in the morning.

You need to refine your focus a bit here--having both a "trap" team and a "toxic spikes" team rolled into one isn't exactly a perfect union. I would like to take this more in the direction of a stall team, since it seems like it plays very slowly anyway.

First off, Weavile needs to go. On top of being a generally subpar poke, he doesn't really do anything to help this team other than kill Gengar, and if Pusuit OHKO's with no LO recoil your opponent will (well, should) know that's it's Banded and will get a free set-up/attack. Instead, we will throw in Gliscor, an absolute must on any pure stall team to avoid destruction from SD Lucario. A basic EQ/Ice Fang/Stealth Rock/Roost will work here.

Second, Moltres serves no real purpose here over Zapdos, as you aren't using any of Moltres' unique moves other than flamethrower, and t-bolt is just as good; in addition you already have Tentacruel to stop Infernape. So Zapdos should be used over Moltres, and to patch up the Gengar weak I opened up by removing Weavile it should be a calm rest/talk variant, with Rest/Sleep Talk/HP Ice/Thunderbolt OR Discharge. This should be your lead.

I don't really see the point of Steelix here. Skarm can lay spikes and wall physical attacks several times better due to its typing and roost. With the addition of Spikes and SR, your opponent will be screwed by switching, in addition to being screwed by tspikes staying in. This will be especially helpful as your opponent will likely have to shuffle through a several pokes before he figures out what the hell Deoxys set you're running. So Spikes/Brave Bird/Whirlwind/Roost will work here.

Just as MS said, I would recommend night shade over SToss on Deoxys, in case you need an emergency kill against Gengar.

Other Options
Wish support would be really nice on this team, since Tentacruel and Wobb, two key team members, can't heal themselves. Since event Wishers are no longer an option, the only two remaining viable wishers are Vaporeon and Jirachi. To fit in Vaporeon you would have to drop Skarm and Tenta for Forretress and Vaporeon, which could work, but you would be forced to run double spikes on forry or drop spikes altogether; in addition you would open up the team more to Infernape and Garchomp since forry is slow to lay spikes.

Another way to go is Jirachi, who could sub in over Skarmory. This would open you up to Garchomp a lot, but if you set tspikes early then garchomp won't be a problem between Gliscor and Wobb.

I am also aware that sub/roost Zapdos is really, really good with toxic spikes, so that is another option on Zapdos; however it's really all you have to beat gengar, so the calm rest/talk variant is probably best.

If gengar gets to be a big problem you can use Psychic over Night Shade on Deoxys. It isn't really meant to sweep anyway.

Good Luck; Hope this Helps! --TAY

Yeah on Tentacruel you want Calm over Lonely and those 48 Atk EVs in SpAtk. You know, so they actually do something.

You might want to put Wobbu or even Moltres as your lead. Weavile does nothing to Bronzong leads- the most popular on the ladder. Weavile is a beast late game anyway. You should try to keep him a secret.

Don't replace Steelix with Magnezone. If you do, where is your physical wall? That being said, there are better walls than Steelix, but if you want to use him, that's fine. I would suggest something like this instead of what you have:

Steelix@Leftovers
Ability: Rock Head
Nature: Impish(+Def -SpAtk)
EVs: 252 HP 120 Atk 136 SpDef
- Toxic / Explosion
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

Toxic is there to hit flyers (but if you don't mind you could go Explosion), Stealth Rock because it's awesome, Roar to pHaze, and Earthquake to deal decent damage. According to the Strategy Pokedex, Steelix doesn't need Def EVs. Test it out.

thanks alot!

Tay, your suggestions are very good. I'll go with Wish Jirachi rather than Skarmory personally though, and now that I am pretty stealth rock resistant I'll replace rapid spin on tentacruel with knock off.
