Traffic Violations (Volt-Turn Abuse)

Well here is my first RMT. I don't think of myself as a a very good team builder considering I rarely give much thought other than "Am I making myself weak to>insert type here<?" In any case lets get down to business.

I was browsing Smogon's articles and found myself looking at a very simple strategy that I had previously waved off as "unreliable". This was of course the Volturn strategy, which thought was easily blocked with a ground type specially one such as Gastrodon. But this article made me view in a new light and I decided to see how much I could abuse it. Without any further ado here is my team:

Scizor@ Choice Band
Technician
Adamant
HP-244 Atk-252 SpDef-12
Bullet Punch/Pursuit/Superpower/U-turn

Scizor of course! Packing huge power with Choice Band equipped he is a prime candidate for any team. He is the most popular user of U-turn and paired with Rotom-W they make the most basic example(and effective too) of volturn. Bullet Punch is powerful STAB and priority which comes in very handy. Pursuit traps ghosts and Psychic types and Superpower brings down Heatran/Magnezone if u can predict the switch. That being said you can always use u-turn to safely switch to a counter.

Rotom-W@ Leftovers
Levitate
Modest
HP-112 SpAtk-252 Spd-144
Will-O-Wisp/Pain Split/Volt Switch/Hydro Pump

Rotom-W has impressive synergy with Mr. Scizor and he can certainly put a damper on my opponents plans. While not as powerful as his Specs variant nor fast as his Scarf variant, this set makes it less dangerous use VoltSwitch and be blocked by a ground type. You can use W-ill-O-Wisp to nerf physical attackers and leave a lasting impression. Pain Split makes u live a little longer if u use it correctly while Hydro Pump obliterates Pokemon that don't resist it.

Mienshao@ Life Orb
Regenerator
Jolly
Atk-252 SpAtk-4 Spd-252
Fake Out/U-Turn/Hi Jump Kick/Hidden Power Ice

Mienshao is fast and strong, plus he makes excellent use of u-turn's granted switch with his ability regenerator which heals him every time he goes back to his Pokeball. Fake Out gives him access to some priority while Hi Jump Kick is a powerful STAB move if somewhat risky. Lastly HP Ice does damage to Pokemon that could wall this set such as Gliscor. His main niche for this team is the fact he hits almost as hard but is more versatile than Scizor since he isn't choiced.

Infernape@ Life Orb
Blaze
Naive
Atk-252 SpAtk-4 Spd-252
U-turn/Overheat/Close Combat/Grass Knot

Infenape is a very good wall-breaker and is especially valuable for a team like this. It deals with opposing Scizor which can be bothersome along with some threats like Gastrodon. If this isn't enough, he has enough power to heavily damage just about anything u throw at him. Overheat can dent all that doesn't resist it, while u then u-turn to safety without any nerf in in its power. Close Combat hits hard too while Grass Knot is there mainly to be used on bulky water types. Infernape is your go-to problem fixer. He doesn't need to live long just do enough damage or outright eliminate that one Pokemon that is giving you a headache.

Forretress@ Leftovers
Sturdy
Relaxed
HP-252 Def-252 SpDef-4
Volt Switch/Stealth Rock/Spikes/Rapid Spin

Forretress has seen a fall in grace with the arrival of Ferrothorn who is arguably a better SR and Spikes setter. BUT for this team Forretress has a very heavy importance. it brings some bulk to the team but that's besides the point, actually even his access to volt switch is not the reason he is so important. He deals with TWO things crucial to this team, laying down hazards AND spinning. Yes, for this team control of hazards is very important. Volturn wants to cause lots of switches thus hazards make it all the more painful. BUT u also get hurt when u switch too much. This can make ur whole team fall apart even when most of this Pokemon somewhat resist either SR or spikes. aside from this he is a good Physical wall, sturdy makes it possible to do at least SOMETHING before dying so he will do his job. Just don't expect him to damage anything much.

Tyranitar@ Leftovers
Sand Stream
Jolly
HP-4 Atk-252 Spd-252
Dragon Dance/Crunch/Stone Edge/Earthquake

The last member of this team might seem a little odd. For instance, he doesn't use either u-turn or volt switch. No, Tyranitar deals with the last two issues for my premise: weather and a Plan B. With weather being such a mainstream force in OU you just have to be prepared. Ninetales and Politoed are out of the question for this team since exploiting weather isn't its gig. Thus I chose the tyrant over the abominable snow man for his ability to sweep. With volt turn it shouldn't be too hard to find that one opening to set up a dance and after one turn of set up there not a lot of things that can easily take on this beast. It is meant to come out either in a good chance or after his counters are dealt with, but if you play it right this baby will rock ur world. Literally. Lastly his everlasting sand removes other troublesome weather and deals damage which is good since u will rely a bit on passive damage.

Well guys there's my team leave any comments on it. So far I have noticed I have trouble beating Conkeldurr but he can be dealt with. Any recommendations and/or criticism will be heard considered and probally replied to^_^

Oh man I love your team, I think you can add more bulky to your Tyranitar, because he will switch-in probably receiving a hit, or maybe a status ailment. and I suggest you change Leftovers for a Lum Berry. And please, importable... Nice team, Luvdisc!

Hi there! Nice Team!

I think it is almost essential to include a Scarfer to deal with Pokemon who might want to set up. As for threats, I think Life Orb Latios and Calm Mind Latias with HP Fire are pretty noticable. Tyranitar is somewhat of a buffer to those two, but the fact that you're a Dragon Dance set means that you won't be taking hits like Specs Latios's Draco Meteor well at all. Being able to trap the Lati Twins with Pursuit can greatly improve your team. There are two ways I would suggest going about this. You can change Tyranitar to a Specially Defensive Set, which helps with trapping. It also means that Forretress has a lot less pressure to set up all your hazards, and can utilize the empty slot of Stealth Rock for either Earthquake or Gyro Ball. If that's not your cup of tea, Choice Banded Tyranitar not only traps the Lati Twins, but is somewhat difficult to switch into, with its amazing damage output.

Also, your issue of not having a Scarfer can be remedied by putting a Choice Scarf on Infernape, with Close Combat, Fire Blast/ Flamethrower, HP Ice, and U-Turn. Mienshao is a great Pokemon and all, especially for Volt-Turn teams, but I think that it can be better replaced with an Expert Belt Landorus. Being able to switch up moves after bluffing a Scarf can help greatly with offensive momentum. It also benefits from the Sand Storm. Hope I helped!
